While these are not guaranteed to mark a person as a Shaman, many of the items on the following list are defining symptoms of Shamanism. The more of these symptoms that a person has, the more likely they are to be a Shaman.
HAD A NEAR DEATH OR OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE
Known who was calling you on the phone, before you look
Thought of a person, and suddenly heard from them
Sensed the thoughts or desires of others around you
Perceived things others can't – such as lights, auras, nonphysical beings, etc.
Known things that you couldn't logically know (Psychic intuition)
Craved silence and solitude, and found that too long without it messes up your emotional equilibrium
Needed to regularly spend time in nature
Been susceptible to over-stimulation, and generally needed a calm environment
Felt the pain of the world, or the pain of others, within your own heart
Known what people are feeling, even when they haven’t given any outward signs
Stepped into a building or touched an object only to have gotten a very uncomfortable sensation, which made you want to immediately leave or put the object down
Been in a good mood, and for no particular reason, suddenly felt anxious, angry, or sad
Felt very uncomfortable in crowds, shopping malls, cities, or public transport
Had a group of friends who all experience similar things in a very short period of time
Had trouble functioning in a material setting and/or felt as if you “don’t fit” in this world
Felt alien to this world and your family, as if you ended up on Earth by mistake
Suffered from extreme allergies or other systemic illnesses
found yourself drawn to those who need a lot, or found those who need a lot are drawn to you
Healed people through your touch, prayers, or intention
Worked in the healing or teaching professions
Again, relating to these does not mean that you are a Shaman, but it does mean there is a higher chance of you being a Shaman. It’s also important to note that certain mental illnesses can mimic Shamanism, leading to widespread misdiagnosis of both mental illnesses and Shamanism. It’s VITAL that you continue researching BOTH POSSIBILITIES if you suspect either to be the case.
