Literally nobody is saying that southern working-class people are our enemies?? Or that they don’t deserve or require an 80% furlough. It’s just that the govt is very south-centric. Manchester had to shout as loud as possible to get 80 and it still all failed, but the very second it’s nation-wide it’s not even up for question that people deserve and need more. It’s just automatic. Sure, Southern rent is higher than Midland rent is higher than Northern rent, but it wasn’t just default. Guess what, southern wages are also higher.

And that’s without going into the reasons as to why wages and rent are higher south, since they don’t change what money is required. Sorry, but no part of OP’s post can be read as blaming Southen working class people instead of what it is doing - pointing out the hypocrisy, this is a reach.

Addressing the north-south divide shouldn’t involve setting the working class of the north and south against one another. The working class of the south are not to blame for this government’s mishandling of covid, or the decades of neglect in the north. Pointing out unfair treatment to the north isn’t an attack on the working class of the south, but criticism of our Westminster-centric political system.

I’m not from the north...I’m a welsh girl living in the Midlands. When I talk about the north-south divide, it’s coming from a place of class solidarity, not regional solidarity.
