Thinking about Ghost, who had his fingertips burnt off.
Maybe it happened during his time with Roba. Maybe he did it to himself after his family’s murders— ensuring that the identity of Simon Riley would die with them.
Either way, he never thought much about it afterwards. Sure he had little to no feeling left in them, but it was never a problem. What was one less piece of a dead man?
Until Soap came along.
Until Ghost went to touch him without gloves, just to learn that he couldn’t feel the skin underneath his fingertips. Until he realized he would never feel the soft hairs of his mohawk, or the pulse of his heart beating steadily, or the way he reacts underneath him.
Ghost’s body was full of aches and pains from everything he’s endured, but nothing made him break quite like the knowledge that he would miss out on knowing Soap like that.
Forever.
Fluffy bonus:
Ghost picks up the habit of putting his lips to Soap’s skin, constantly. His favorite place being right underneath Soap’s jaw, pressed into the soft space enough to feel the thrum of the artery.
He’s always dragging Soap into dark corners, yanking his mask above the bridge of his nose and going to the familiar pulse point. Needing the reassurance after rough missions or when they’ve been separated for a while.
In more public settings he tones it down- after all, it would be too private of a thing to see Ghost’s face entirely shoved into his sergeant’s neck.
So he settles on bringing Soap’s wrist to his lips, instead.
Soap never expected him to be so tactile, but he’s not the least bit put off by it. If anything, he just makes sure he has easier access. Starts wearing looser sleeves, leaving his watch behind if he can forego it, and letting Ghost snatch his wrist up whenever he wants.
He loves the soft, warm press of Ghost’s lips against his skin. Revels in it. Its intoxicating to have him act so touchy for Soap and only Soap, but what he loves most is that Ghost found a way around his loss of feeling in his fingertips.
As long as Ghost is happy, Soap would give the man anything he wants. It’s unconventional, but it’s theirs.
