What were the chances the guy would haunt this stretch of road? Aaron didn't know, but it was funny thinking about it. "You think it'd scare the fucker to death all over again?" His laugh came with a snort. "Serves him right for driving like a godsdamned maniac." The guy had it coming.
• • April • •
“It’ll at least knock him back to the other side- yeah- like maybe down into the twilight for a couple days while he figures his way back out.” April smirked as she peered off in the direction where he had driven off. They’d likely pass his accident sooner than later.
“That’s IF he winds up haunting the roads, though. I ain’t escorting his ass to the afterlife so that’s up to someone else.”
Stunning Landry
"Yes way. I mean, I thought for a minute that it was a costume for... I dunno, a party or something. I don't even know if he's ever watched the show." If it was intentional, then the guy nailed it. If not, it was a hell of a coincidence.
Seeing the smile move across Frankie's face made Lang glad. He had an idea that the story would make her half-smile at least. And that made him feel good, like he'd done something right for once.
"I'd be scared if he went full Frond." Lang laughed a little. "Well, not scared but definitely a little concerned."
Frankie was right; the show had so many good ideas for costumes.
• • Frankie • •
Frankie kept laughing, the idea of going full Frond which reminded her of the episode with the RoboFrond from the future. "That's fuckin wild. I mean he certainly made a fashion choice- intentional or not. For sure concerning."
Her hand went back to the bag of pretzels, carefully collecting a handful before she brought the pile close to her. "But now I'm thinking about who'd I'd be if I dressed up as someone for Halloween...I think Louise is too obvious. Linda would be good...Gayle would be funnier though..."
How could she think she was funny? She hadn't really done anything funny, had she? A little joke here or there but nothing monumental. She didn't believe that and so shook her head lightly.
"You sound like you understand flowers pretty well," Vinnie noted, sort of envying that talent for a moment. She thought she understood flowers and plants, but it seemed like Sparrow was on some deeper level. And that fascinated her.
"I do read to them sometimes. I like to think they enjoy The Secret Garden." Her blush brightened to a new shade of red. "I read parts of it to them sometimes. Especially the parts about the garden itself."
• • Sparrow • •
"Welll, yeah- I kind of found out it's like a trait from my mom's side, which was kind of cool. Once I got a better understanding of it and figured out how to tap into that? Total game changer."
Sparrow happily listened as Vinnie told her about what she read to her flowers, a huge amused smile on her face. "Oh yeah, they LOVE that kind of stuff. But they also pick up on like stuff you enjoy reading."
He was relieved she remembered him. John-Paul wouldn't have considered himself the most popular of students at any of the schools he went through back then, the Roses reputation enough to keep most kids away from all three of them, but he was glad he didn't have to go through the embarrassment of explaining how they knew each other. "Same," he admitted with a small laugh.
"I'm doing. You know how it is. Same shit different day," he told her. When he actually thought about it, his life hadn't changed all that much since he and Kat last saw each other. He was still dealing, still ubering, still running interference to his brother's outbursts to protect his little sister. He was the same old JP. The only difference now was he didn't have to worry about passing classes to graduate - as if he really cared about that back then anyway. (If it hadn't been for Sada's urging, he would have dropped out.)
"How 'bout you? Life treating you good?"
• • Kat • •
It was nice to be back in his presence; a sort of comfort took over for her. Felt like old times, more or less. With a soft thud she leaned back into the comfort of his car. "Yeah, I totally get that. But I'm alright- just on the go all the time with bookings and stuff. I'm an event DJ now."
This meant that her weekends were spent out late, with a sprinkling of here and there throughout the week, especially with the rise in weekday weddings, as weekend venues were so pricey. However, she was paid, and she genuinely enjoyed her work.
"So if you ever want to crash a wedding, I can definitely help you with that."
Gods, the clock could not move fast enough!
Again, she looked at her phone, laughing aloud at the imagine Sparrow sent.
[text] she's hanging on like a little monkey
[text] she is cute
But Sparrow was cuter. Vinnie dared not send that by text. Just thinking it made her blush.
Once more, she flicked her eyes to the clock. The minutes ticked away, but it was close enough.
"Mom, I'm leaving!" she called, and not waiting for an answer, grabbed her bag and was out the door. She shot Sparrow another text.
[text] I'm free! I'll see you in a bit.
Now, she just had to get ready for their not-exactly-a-date date.
• • Sparrow • •
[txt] she really is. she'll spend every freakin second dangling. ana does too.
Sparrow got the plans set in place for her replacement, who excitedly came over to give her a reprieve. Which worked out perfectly so the kids had a distraction and Sparrow could get ready.
[txt] WONDERFUL. My sisters friend is here to watch the baby bats [txt] just let me know when you're good - and I'll poof to you. 🩷
"Mmm. Pavement. I wonder if it tastes as good as drywall," he said with a goofy smile and voice to match. He laughed and his smile softened. "Actually, I can relate. I went over the bike handlebars in a bad wipe-out. I was like... eleven? I think? And I had these road-burn marks on my cheek."
Lang shook his head, chuckling at the memory. "And there were bits of gravel in there." He shuddered. "Gross. Painful. Painful and gross."
Smiling big, he gladly accepted the candies. "Yeah. This should about do it."
• • Frankie • •
“Fuck- ouchhhh.” Frankie chuckled as she cringed- the two reactions a stark contrast of each other. She could picture it entirely- because she’d had her share of nasty road rash scrapes over the years.
“Good thing we heal good and quick, huh?” She shoved the rest of the last bit of the bag of candy into her bag pocket before she gently nudged him.* “It’s what keeps us lookin so cute.”
The day had been long and she was grateful to make it home before it was too late in the day. Or too early in the morning depending on how you looked at it. Either way she was ready to get inside, crack open a cold one, turn on a movie, and pass out on the couch.
Which Klau had already done.
A tired smile tugged at her lips with the sight. "Klaus Hargreaves. As I live and breath," she said as she gently shook him awake. "A pleasure as always," she added playfully once his eyes opened. "How long have you been here?" she asked as she dropped her things off next to the couch and went to the kitchen to grab not one beer, but two, handing one off to her friend and taking a seat next to him.
• • Klaus • •
He grumbled as she stirred him, but there was no actual bite behind it. Never directed at Emily. “Not long. Maybe an hour. Two tops. I dunno, time all blurs together after a while.”He lazily rolls his wrists with the comment, eyelids only partially open.
As she came back to the couch, Klaus reached up to take the offered beer with a soft ‘danke’ before he brought up his knees to make room for her.
“How was work?”
{ooc} soooo sorry for vanishing. between depression and dealing with chaos at home and at work, my brains been pooched.

"Balance," he repeated, eyeing the Starburst bag again, debating whether he should take a few more. "Yeah, I don't have a lot of that. I have two left feet so I'm clumsy. Sometimes."
Lang nodded. "Uh, yeah. I appreciate that. I think just the grocery store this time but I'll see if I need anything else before then." It sounded like a solid plan.
He waited for a few seconds before asking, "Uh, can I get a couple more of those?" He gestured to the bag.
• • Frankie • •
"Oh I didn't say I wasn't clumsy sometimes. I've eaten pavement more times than I care to admit." There was a cheeky smile on her face with her confession, but she'd been skating for years and that sort of came with the territory sometimes.
"Yeah man, that sounds good to me." Frankie gave the bag a shake to mix it up before she shook a good handful into the cup of his hand. "There, sugar top up."
The grip he had on Frankie's hand was tight and it didn't seem he would let go any time soon. What else could he see? What else? Brown eyes left her face, searching, searching.
"The--the lamp." It was right behind her, glowing with yellow light, ugly opaque flowers on the lampshade.
• • Frankie • •
She could handle the iron grip- this was familiar territory for them. Once more, she pressed her fingers against the tight fists enclosed around hers, a subtle reminder she was here, and he was not alone.
"You're doing so good, Lang. Let's try and take as deep a breath as we can- then find one more thing you can see."
Vinnie found herself smiling as she thought of Sparrow telling jokes to the plants. She didn't think it silly at all but... really touching and beyond cute. And maybe a little silly.
She bit her bottom lip a moment trying to hide that smile but failed.
"I talk to my plants too. And sing to them." Admitting that to someone, finally, felt really good, even though it brought fresh heat and color to her cheeks. "But I've never told them jokes. I'm not really funny."
• • Sparrow • •
This was a refreshing conversation- not that her sister didn't have a way with plants, but Sparrow connected to them on another level, and it sounded like Vinnie did too.
"I mean, I think you're funny. But honestly flowers don't even care if they are good jokes. They don't really understand the context of a lot of jokes, but they like you tell a joke that makes you laugh. Like you know when you're trying to read something out loud that's like, really funny but you can't get through it without craking up? Stuff like that. Flowers love it."
Lang didn't realize he'd dug his nails into palms until he unclenched his fingers to grab her hand. He tightened his hand around hers.
"Nothing," he said immediately. The tears in his eyes made it hard to see anything. He blinked rapidly a few times. Frankie was a blurry shape at first, but then her features too shape. "I see you."
• • Frankie • •
Feeling the way he gripped her one hand, she brought the other one down. Her fingers gently curling around his hand. Both hands gave a soft squeeze, a reminder that she wasn’t going anywhere.
“That’s great. You’re doing great. What’s something else you can see?”
CJ wrinkled her nose again, but made no comment. While Sparrow texted her girlfriend, CJ stretched her arms up, and to the right. She held the pose a couple of seconds, then stretched to the left. Her shoulder popped, which made her wince though it didn't hurt much but her ears.
"I'd love one of the cherry slushies. And also a pop." She needed a lot of sugar.
• • Sparrow • •
Text sent, and the phone set into her lap, Sparrow thought that over. Big pop, ooo and big slushie too? Definitely good ideas. “Candy too. I need something gummy to gnaw on.” She’d have to wear a hoodie; she’d need the pocket space for more snacks.
“Is there anything playing you wanna go see?”
While she waited for Sparrow's next reply, Vinnie's quick fingers opened up the browser and soon had a link ready to go.
She sent it at the same moment a video message came through. Her brow furrowed in confusion as she hit play. What she saw and heard was pure chaos, a little girl's laughter, Sparrow trying to wrangle her. Vinnie had to bit hard on her bottom lip to keep back her laughter. She began to type back as fast as her fingers could.
[text]: you have your hands full lol
For a second, she thought of asking if Sparrow was absolutely sure she could slip away, but ultimately decided not to. If she gave her an out, Sparrow might take it and Vinnie would kick herself for suggesting it.
Realizing she was way overthinking this, she instead typed out:
[text]: i sent the details
[text]: uh yeah okay that sounds good. I'll text back.
Oh, she was gonna be a mess of nerves until then.
• • Sparrow • •
[txt] someone's FULL of it. luckily she’s cute tho.
It was partially Sparrow’s fault she got her niece this riled up in the first place…but she wouldn’t entirely admit that. With Lisa still in tow, she went to the closest mirror, and shot a selfie of herself and the preschooler dangling like luggage from her arm and sent that to Vinnie. AND then also to Emma.
Sparrow managed to coax the kid to go bother Ana, then let her go like a wind up toy, racing through the house. In the quick moment of peace, she started with her sisters friend first, knowing she was the least likely to have actual plans. Then she popped open the menu. Seeing all the photos of food- Sparrow’s stomach gurgled.
[txt] OMG. I’m going to eat freaking ✨everything.✨
Lang couldn't believe he hadn't already told Frankie this, considering Bob's Burgers was a favorite show of theirs. The episode they were watching had sparked the memory of the other day.
He scooted in his spot to sit up more. "Okay, this guy came in. He's like, almost a regular, so I've seen him before. Normal looking guy with glasses." Lang gestured to his face, making circles to mime the lenses. "Nothing to write home about, right? So he comes in and I swear it was Mr. Frond."
Right at that moment, the character appeared on screen and Lang gestured. "Him. Right there. Same exact outfit. It was freaky." Too bad he didn't have his phone to snap a picture. He hadn't even thought of it until too late anyhow.

As he spoke, she picked at the pile of pretzels in her hand. Gaze completely fixed on him as a smile crept on her face, trying to picture it in her head. There was a part of her that wished it were intentional.
"Oh shit- no way! I wonder if he has a collection of dolls he crocheted and a cat named Dr. Bojangles?"
A little laughter left her lips, which made her nose crinkle the wider she smiled. "Come to think of it, this show has plenty of good costume opportunities."
