Since the beginning, life has handed you a short straw. You lost your father at such a young age, and while you love your mother with all your being, you just wish you had a chance to get to know them. Still, you wouldn’t let that define you. You have always worn your heart on your sleeve, and you never felt the desire to apologize for anything that you have felt. You aren’t afraid to express your opinions out loud, and yet you worry about offending someone around you. That’s the tricky thing about opinions though, there will always be someone who gets offended.
Three pieces of paper, written up on front and back in messy handwriting, are all Amos knows about where he comes from. He knows nothing about his mother other than her name, Shanaya. The pages tell him little more of his father, Neelamani, who died suddenly when he was just two years old. Little Amos cried and cried, trapped for days inside his childhood home with his dead father. Finally, a neighbor heard his screams, and Amos was torn from the life he could have had and forced to live in uncertainty. As a child, he was moved between different foster homes, which he tried his best to fit into. A young, perceptive child, Amos learned very quickly that he needed to impress them if he wanted to stay. So he helped with household chores and shared his toys with other children; he complimented his foster parents and told them how appreciative he was, but it was never enough. Nothing lasted, and no matter how hard you tried, soon you began to see each home as only temporary. At least, until one woman promised you that one day, only when you were comfortable, you’d call her your mother.
Nora Diggory was an uncommonly kind woman. At seven years old, she took Amos into her home – a boy she knew nothing about other than what those three pieces of paper told her. Amos couldn’t believe how nice she’d been to him. For once, it was as if someone was trying to impress him, to accommodate his needs instead of the other way around. It was the first time Amos felt wanted, instead of feeling like an inconvenience. Aside from being kind, Nora was an eccentric woman. She was a painter with a fondess for animals and gardening. She had a habit of picking up stray cats she found along the road and giving them a home. She was unwed, but desperately wanted to share her home with someone. While Amos was hesitant of her at first, unlike many of his former foster parents, Nora was incredibly warm and obviously interested in getting to know him, so it didn’t take long for Amos to warm up to her.
It wasn’t until after Amos showed signs of magic that she revealed she was a witch. i had a feeling about you, she told him. That’s when Amos learned all about Hogwarts. Two years later, he was on his way to what Nora told him would be his second home. Having only just feeling like he’d found his first home, Amos could hardly believe her, but when he stepped foot in the great hall, he felt the same warm feeling he felt from his adoptive mother. For seven years, Amos donned his yellow and black robes with pride, but befriended anyone and everyone he could no matter their house. Perhaps that’s why he was so blindsided by the war.
Amos had just graduated Hogwarts, just started an internship at The Ministry of Magic, when the tides turned toward darkness. Not having the stomach for war, Amos buried himself in his work, kept to himself and moved into the countryside. He surrounded himself with strange little creatures and plants, and spent most of his days painting and writing detailed journals about the his pets, only apparating to London for work. But since then, things have only gotten darker, and the war isn’t just beginning – it’s here. Still, Amos is a lover, not a fighter, and he can only bury himself in his work for so long. He sees his friends in the Order of the Phoenix, fighting for their lives, and can’t help but think he’s a coward. He knows the war is coming for all of them, even those who can’t fight for themselves.
edgar bones » For the longest time, you didn’t actually get along with them. While you may have run in the same crowd, you weren’t a fan of spending any time alone with them but perhaps you were wrong to so quickly judge them. With recent events, you realize that nothing they did actually angered you, and now you are willing to give them another shot.
caradoc dearborn » They have been a good friend to you when times were hard. While you may not tell them everything that goes on with your life, not wanting to add to their own personal baggage, you are more than willing to let them speak to you about anything. They are, after all, one of your oldest friends.
lucinda talkalot » You only know them by their name and nothing more. While you are aware that you attended school with them, you aren’t actually sure of who they really are. It’s one thing to have a face for the crowd, it’s another when the cameras are away. You aren’t sure if you really want to know them, a little scared that it might destroy the image you have of them.
