Over the last six months, I’ve been saving my nickels and dimes and making small print runs so I could finally open this humble little shop. It’s a limited selection so far, the bulk of which is original work (because, as many of you already know, I’m prohibited from legally profiting from fanart which is based on the intellectual property owned by various authors/publishing companies). That said, Tor Books was incredibly gracious and has given me the green light to sell the print of Wallace and Hugo from the UNDER THE WHISPERING DOOR preorder campaign, and I’m working on trying to get permission for some of my other popular fanart. How the Hermits would measure the height of a building using a barometer

In an area of the geek/physicist crowd(at least the one my parents are in), there is a joke about how would you measure the height of a building with a barometer. Since a barometer measures air pressure, the sensical response is to measure the air pressure at the bottom and top of the building and find the difference. however, that crowd of people is rarely all that sensical. neither are the hermits. so without further ado, I present how(most) of the hermits would measure the height of a building. Using a barometer.

Xisuma: use the barometer for its intended purpose by measuring air pressure at the top and bottom of the building and compare the difference. sees no other possible way to do this until much after when he has to clean up after all the other hermits mad science and destruction of public property. 

Ethoslab: trade(scam someone) the relatively low quality barometer for much fancier measuring technology that is still not designed for measuring height. Re-engineer the new piece of technology to measure height and then measure the building.

Keralis: give someone the barometer in exchange for them measuring the building for him with a more practical instrument.

Here’s a snippet from my Docile prequel fic.

Marcus stood. “Go lock the door, then come kneel in front of me.”

Ashton’s pulse was racing. This was really happening. He stood up and walked to the door. It was only a few paces, but it felt farther. He turned the deadbolt, and it sounded very loud. Then he walked over to stand about eighteen inches from Marcus who said, “Come a little closer.” Ashton moved about six inches forward. “That’s good. Now kneel down. Put your knees where your feet are now, and keep your thighs vertical.”

Ashton slowly did as he was told. He felt extremely awkward and wished he was more graceful. He was looking straight at Marcus’s chest. He didn’t know whether he was supposed to look upward to his face. He didn’t like not knowing, though he supposed that since Marcus hadn’t specified, either way was fine.

“That’s very good,” said Marcus. “I like seeing you like that. How does it feel?”

“Scary. Exciting. Safe.” Those things sounded contradictory, but they all felt true. In fact, it was how very safe this felt that made it scary.

Does anybody else really relate to Baz’s words here in terms of their own family of origin? When I was a kid, I knew that my mom was my father’s second wife and my older brother was from his first marriage, but I didn’t know how I knew, because I couldn’t remember ever hearing it discussed. (We’re more functional about it now.)

do you respond to comments, why or why not? Almost always! I love love getting comments and want to at least thank the person for taking the time. Sometimes they say something more detailed about my fic and then I get to natter on for a while, which is fun. My favorite thing is exchanges of detailed comments and responses, whether it’s my fic or someone else’s. I have a lovely friendship that started with me writing thousands of words of comments on someone else’s fic as it came out chapter by chapter.

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I only write happy endings.

have you ever received hate on a fic? No, I’m glad to say!

do you write smut? if so what kind? Oh yes! There’s almost always a D/s element of some kind. The biggest exception is my recently-published What Love Sounds Like -- canon (Docile) is almost all non-con and dub-con and the fic is all about the characters trying to build a functional, equal, consensual relationship and even consensual D/s would be very challenging for them because of their history. Most of my smut is pwp, but I’ve recently starting having more of a story. Serves Me Right had some plot, though it was still all about the relationships. What Love Sounds Like has a tech/business plot thread and some family and friend relationship stuff in addition to the smut and the romance plot thread. It’s my longest fic to date and I’m very proud of it. Tasting Menu is my favorite PWP.

have you ever had a fic stolen? not that I know of

have you ever had a fic translated? Not yet.

what about other related works (podfics, spinoffs, remixes, art, etc.)? When I wrote I’ll Melt With You, @xivz did a podfic and @kirito-potter did art at my request -- it was a group birthday project for @peachpit-gabe. @knitbelove wrote a fic inspired by Mi Chamocha and @knitbelove and @super-duper-twelve both did unsolicited art for it. I’ve also commissioned art by @peachpit-gabe for a few of my fics. I highly recommend commissioning art if you can afford it -- it feels so good to have your stuff made into pictures, and it’s a good way to support fan artists. It can draw new readers, too.

have you ever co-written a fic before? No, but I’d be open to it.

what’s your all time favorite ship? That I’ve actually written? Right now I’m all about Alex/Elisha from Docile. I also really love Arden/Caspian from the Arden St. Ives books, but even though I’ve written a fic for the series, it wasn’t those two. I’ll always have a soft spot for Snowbaz; Carry On was my first real fandom. I love love love reading Pynch (Raven Cycle) but haven’t written any. And I’ve adored Spuffy for decades.

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? I’ve started a sequel to PTA called The Longest Time. I really love that AU and their story cries out for more, but Carry On is really not my focus any more.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I could do small amounts in a language I knew (Hebrew, French, and maybe Spanish) but honestly I don’t see the point -- most readers won’t understand it.

what’s your favorite fic you’ve written? God, that’s a hard question. If I *have* to pick just one, I guess Mi Chamocha? But I really love What Love Sounds Like, PTA, Soul Bands, Serves Me Right, and Bonfire Night too.

I’m gonna add another question because I want to answer it:

Do you ever make anything else for your fics? (art, playlists, moodboards, banners, etc.) I’ve done moodboards for a couple of fics, and I do banners for most of them. I’m not artistic or musical enough for art or playlists. I did detailed author’s notes for Mi Chamocha.

And I’m adding this mostly to see my friends’ answers:

What fic was hardest to write? Mi Chamocha was my first really long fic and had some thorny consent issues that gave me writer’s block for a while. And I thought that the double fake-dating plot in Bonfire Night was going to make my head explode -- but then I bought Scrivener and things got easier.

Thank you @sillyunicorn​ for tagging me. I published my first Docile fic a couple of days ago, so I’m working on the other one -- a prequel fic that will be called Deep Cover. Mildly nsfw excerpt under the cut.

In the end, what the Thorny Plum dreamed up was a coordinated trio of costumes. Marcus and Lisa both got lacy lingerie — bras and open-backed panties, all in pale pink silk, with white thigh-highs and blush-colored stiletto-heeled sandals. Ashton’s throat went dry watching them model the costumes. Shallow cups made the most of Marcus’s pecs and his panties had a pouch in front, appetizingly filled by his cock and balls. The color contrasted appealingly with his brown skin. Lisa’s round breasts filled her larger bra and the color brought out the rosy tones in her complexion. Ashton’s outfit, in contrast, had slim-cut trousers and a formal waistcoat all in thin, butter-soft black suede which he wore over a white shirt whose loose sleeves were gathered into tight cuffs at the wrists. A lacy, pale pink pocket square was the only point of connection to his Dociles’ clothing.

If you live and vote in California, I hope by now you’ve heard that there is an election happening on September 14th. You may have even gotten your ballot in the mail already.

An election? In September? Yes. A stupid one.

You see, some Republicans got Big Mad at Governor Gavin Newsom when he made the decision to lockdown the state last year at the beginning of the pandemic. They decided to start a petition to remove (recall) him from office. California’s state constitution allows voters to remove the governor via recall election if they get enough signatures.

How many signatures, you ask? 12% of the total votes cast in the previous election for the office of the person being recalled, or in this case, 1.5 million.

Yeah. That’s all. Out of a state of nearly 40 million people. A state that is the 5th largest economy in the world.

Just 1.5 million people need to sign an official recall petition for a statewide vote to remove the governor from office.

(If you didn’t know, a recall election is how California got Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor in 2003.)

If a simple majority (50% + 1 vote) of voters choose YES on their ballots, Gavin Newsom will be removed from office and whomever of the 46 candidates on the ballot gets more votes than anyone else (not even a majority vote, just more than the other candidates) will become California’s new governor.

The current (as of today, August 20th) frontrunners are a very right-wing talk radio host named Larry Elder, and a real estate broker/YouTube personality named Kevin Paffrath. Neither have what you would call “political experience.”

(Caitlin Jenner is also running. Just in case you were wondering.)

How do you get on a recall ballot in California? To replace the governor, the highest office in the state? Well, you need to complete the arduous task of forking over about $4000 and getting 7500 signatures of real Californians saying they back you as a candidate.

Yeah. That’s all.

Oh, and just having this election is costing CA taxpayers over $250 million dollars.

So what’s at stake if Newsom gets recalled?

Majority control of the US Senate.

You see, Senator Dianne Feinstein is 88 years old this year. She’s been Senator since 1992. If she falls too ill to continue her duties, if she resigns, if she dies while in office, California does not hold a Senatorial election.

The governor appoints a replacement.

This is how we got our current junior Senator, Alex Padilla, after Kamala Harris was inaugurated as Vice President.

Let me say that again.

The governor appoints a replacement Senator if Dianne Feinstein cannot complete her term.

If enough people vote to recall Gavin Newsom, and a Republican, or Libertarian, or, let’s be honest, any inexperienced wet sack that can be bought off by the highest bidder, takes his place, they will very possibly appoint a Republican Senator to replace Dianne Feinstein and put that fuckface Mitch McConnell back in control of the US Senate.

So please, please, if you’re a Californian, make sure you’re registered to vote, get your ballot, and vote NO on this stupid waste of money recall election.

helooo i know i'm way late to the party but i just read the arrangement and it is... so good. i love henry pov so much, that softie pisces mess, but i also love reading about someone perceiving henry (he is just so dream boy), and was wondering if you ever shared some of the alex pov you were thinking about? my poor heart dies with henry's when he does't think alex wants him so it would be so satisfying and sweet and hot to see how much he wanted henry the whole time. wah!

Ugh, so I really wish I had finished literally anything Alex POV at any point 🤣 but I did not. HOWEVER, I did start something a while back that I still hope to finish someday, maybe I can shoot for the one year anniversary of when I started finished posting?! (Brought to you by oh my god it's literally the one year anniversary of when I started posting TOMORROW WHAT 🤯) anyway, this lovely ask coincided with @amphipodgirl tagging me for six sentence Sunday, so why not share a snip of what I have? Presenting, a year later: six sentences of Arrangement Alex POV. 😅

So, the thing about the kiss is, Alex absolutely cannot stop thinking about it.

Memories of Henry's mouth keep popping up at the most random times—when he's in the shower, running down the lacrosse pitch, or having breakfast with June. He'd already been thinking about Henry quite a bit; there's something about the way Henry guards himself, the eagerness he tries to cover with gruffness that really just makes him seem adorably nervous, that makes Alex want to find every single window into Henry's inner workings and throw it wide open. To allow a fresh spring breeze to clear the dust out, to bring blinding sunshine into places that have only seen darkness. But the second Henry pressed his lips against Alex's, Alex felt something shift, and he hasn't been able to stop trying to figure out what it is.

He even finds himself reaching up for Liam's sweet, round face when they're kissing one night and fantasizing about touching the sharp, angular lines of Henry's jaw instead.

Thank you to @sharing-a-room-with-an-open-fire​ for tagging me! I’m still hooked on Docile and have written 50k of fan fic for it over the past month and a half. The first, 32k fic will go out later this week. Today’s snippet is from one that’s probably a little further out. I’m changing the names to avoid this being a spoiler for the book.

Ashton looked down and traced a seam on the exercise mat with his finger. “I like you. You’re strong and smart and you don’t bullshit and you really care. I had a great time the other day and I would absolutely do all of that again, and more. But I also wish I could take you out for dinner or the theater or something.”

“So you want a relationship.”

“I want to try it. If you do.” 

Marcus sat up, putting his face on a level with Ashton’s. Their eyes met, but then he looked down at his knees. “I really enjoyed topping you. The way you responded to being hit — hell, I want more of that. But the part I really can’t stop thinking about is kissing your wrists.”

“Is that a yes?”

Marcus took his hand and pressed a kiss to his wrist, raising goosebumps all over his forearm. “That’s a yes.”
