1/23/12: Reason #51,927 that I work out with Mark Fisher.
1/22/12: Coffee with Ben. A cloudy day + seasonal bright lampy thing = this kind of creepy/cool light situation.
1/21/12: Went over to my friend Seth's apt last night for a LONG overdue Stupid Movie Night. When I lived on the East Side, we used to have these frequently (classic Stupid Movie Nights in the past have included WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S, all of the KARATE KID films, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and films of this ilk). Tonight, Seth curated an evening of SCROOGED and JOE VS. THE VOLCANO. This mug was bought for his apartment by our Russian friend Katya who was working in New York for a couple of summers several years ago. It brought me great happiness to drink tea from this mug, watch Tom Hanks jump into a volcano, and think of my favorite little Russian gal.
1/20/12: Another sleepover with Al and Nikka. After a brief trip to the grocery store for sustenance (in between watching MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN and DEATH BECOMES HER), Al takes a break in the elevator.
1/19/12: I love wandering around NYC on an afternoon - you pass windows full of gems like THIS.
1/18/12: When it's birthday time for two of the fellas at Mark Fisher Fitness (Mark and Michael), you get them Unicorn Lover Magnetic Poetry. Seriously. That's what you do. And then you wrap it in something shiny and cover it in rainbows and My Little Pony stickers. And then they put it on the metal doors downstairs so that people can create epic poems after deadlifting lotsa stuff.
1/17/12: This hardly seems fair. Or safe. Whatever, I felt slightly slighted and a wee bit disgruntled after reading this.
1/16/12: Went to Columbine Cafe (our favorite) for breakfast. Found this gem in the Summit Daily newspaper. I immediately texted this photo to Kirk Damato, and it is in his honor that I post it now.
1/15/12: When we both visit Colorado at the same time, my brother and I fight over who gets to stay in The Blue Bedroom. He usually wins, because he is younger, more charming, and whinier. When I'm there without him, though, THE BLUE BEDROOM IS ALL MINE! It's on the ground floor, but the house is on a hill, so the view from the window makes you feel like you're in a basement or a cave of some sort. I'm fanciful. I'm always imagining caves.
1/14/12: A drive to Boulder this afternoon took us past Lake Dillon. It doesn't matter what time of year it is...THIS PLACE ALWAYS LOOKS INCREDIBLE.
1/13/12: Spent much of the day in transit, en route to Breckenridge, Colorado, where my parents have a house. They've moved a couple of times since I was in high school, so this is the place I refer to as "home" when I'm not talking about New York. It is, perhaps, the coziest place in the world. I'm just in town to visit for a few days, as I didn't leave the city over the holidays.
1/12/12: I was asked to drop by The McKittrick Hotel and help out with the Porgy & Bess Opening Night Party this eve. Basically, we (the members of the "Supporting Cast" that get asked to come and work special events on occasion) stood around and looked classy, and occasionally helped people navigate their way through the space. It was pretty delightful. Later in the evening, when he was done working the press line, I gave Peter Zielinkski a tour of the various party rooms, as he hasn't been to the show yet. We listened to some excellent music in the hotel bar, and wound up hanging out in the Mandeley at the end, where he took this lil' pic on his phone. Apparently, fancy people from TV talked to us, but I don't watch enough of that, so I didn't recognize them.
1/11/12: I went to see my friend Matt Wilson's one-man show CLOWN BAGGAGE at Ars Nova tonight. Matt and I were in STOP THE WORLD - I WANT TO GET OFF together at Musicals Tonight, and in that show alone, he managed to juggle, ride a unicycle, do several pratfalls and somersaults, and walk on stilts. I am probably missing some other tricks. Oh, yeah. Sing/act/speak in dialects/generally be excellent. Anyway, I SO enjoyed his show. I hadn't had an opportunity to catch any of his actual clowning up to now. If you get a chance to see him do anything, GO. I know that he and his wife Stephanie Sine perform at Ars Nova fairly regularly, so check them out!
1/10/12: I give you - my French Toast socks. These socks depict slices of toast wearing berets and running around with French flags, shouting, "Oui! Oui!" They are so silly, and for some reason, bring me vast amounts of joy.
1/9/12: I call this photo "Green Smoothie Detritus!" I call it this primarily because I enjoy the word "detritus" and the use of exclamation points, but also because it is apt. What went into this one, you inquire? WELL: 1 bunch o' red chard (which, admittedly, makes for a fairly ugly smoothie - if you want it to be nice and green, use regular swiss chard or rainbow chard), 2 kiwis, 1 small banana, 1/2 a cup of frozen cherries, and about 2 cups of water. I heart my blender.
1/8/12: I spent a good chunk of this evening scanning photos from high school and college. Here is a delightful shot of my parents and I after what I'm certain was a triumphant performance as Fiona in Chatfield Senior High School's production of BRIGADOON. Yes, even I was an ingenue once. My brother still likes to do impressions of my teary voice in one of the final scenes. He's funny, but such a jerk.
1/7/12: Oh, boy. What a beautiful day! I went to see my darling friend Adam Shenk sing his songs at the Laurie Beechman theatre...and he was BRILLIANT!!! Adam Berry, Zac Young and I went to see him...and had a mini-BoCo reunion. As the least famous person at the table (I mean, the BOYS were both on the TV!), I had to satisfy myself with being the most fabulous. But really...my heart was so full. Anyone who gets an opportunity to see Adam perform SHOULD NOT MISS IT!!!!!
