For the final work I’ve chosen, Johannes Vermeer - Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665) as a premise to the concept of Erasure.
With experiments, I’ve attempted previously I deeply resonate with the colour swatch idea and breaking down an image into solely it’s colour pixel as a representative of the concept of Erasure.
Firstly, I’ve created a colour swatch through the instructions @ here
Then to further expand on the idea of Erasure, I’ve drawn my own version of the image. With the colour swatch made available, I then added colour accordingly in my own fashion. I have purposely left out the eye from the influence of my experiments. Then with my own colouring, I’ve also made a colour swatch based on my own creation!
By reworking classics, I was able to explore the concept of Erasure simply yet elegantly. I am able to rewrite history and erased it’s culture and social context and implemented my own influences.
Erasure Experiment
With the last few experiments for Erasure before my final work, I decided to take on a more poetic way of interpreting Erasure. I decided to draw the experimental subjects and of course, making alternation in my own ways. For example, adding eyebrow to Mona Lisa, taking away the famous unibrow and many other features in Frida, taking away the axe in American Gothic, removing backgrounds in all, removing colour in all and reduce into only simplistic lines. This was an interesting experiment as it adds to my own artistic practice and style combining theirs.

Erasure Experiment
By far this is one of the simplest experiment I have manipulated under the concept of erasure. I wish to take the literal meaning of Erasure, which is taking something away from it, hence this one stroke of paint across the eye indicating the deletion of eyes.

Erasure Experiment
With the experiments last few posts I hope to change the texture and content of the portrait, but to continue I changed the medium of the portrait into a moving picture giving a completely different feeling. With Erasure in mind, I alternated the medium with the composer, but of course, the classics were done in pure painting which is why utilising technology I am able to step a new top notch in the idea of Erasure. Erasing the medium of painting and changing it into animation, giving a more vibrant and alive feeling. This is a different take on the concept.

Erasure Experiment
Continue recycling the work I’ve previously used, in this experiment I’ve broken down every picture into it’s colour components. I find it extremely pleasing with the result as we can still recognise the photo solely through their colour schemes. This was certainly one of the most successful experiment so far as the concept of erasure is depicted in an elegant yet meaningful way.

Erasure Experiment
In my last experiment I tried to multiply the portrait heads, and contrastingly in this one, I tried to erase the facial feature in the very portrait, distorting the nature of the so-called portrait. This, as a result, gave a very mysterious feeling, like a portrait without faces. I thought it was a very interesting way experiment on the concept of erasure. I recycled the same photo I did from the last experiment so it can give a comparison.

Erasure experiment:
In my second experiment for erasure, I decided to erase the greatest feature on the portrait of all time and distort their work. Each every portrait is made as a classic, and for the experiment, I revised on the idea how identity and styles are made based on solely on the portrait. I manipulated the format on “portrait” and transformed it into multiple headed people.
