My life has been v. v. busy lately; taking a quick moment to appreciate that I had the first day at a new job today where I will be making a living wage and getting to do stuff I love.  Also my cats are gorgeous bbs.  Also a lot of other things.  

Everything is hard and we’re all just doing our best!  Today it feels okay and that’s something.

A favorite memory

When I was in university I lived with my sisters and our cousin who is like a sister to us, and sometimes I would get home from school fully intending to get some studying done or go to bed early, but instead I would sit down at the kitchen table with whoever was around and we’d chat about everything and nothing and be silly and laugh and laugh and at midnight I’d find that I hadn’t gotten farther than the kitchen, let alone upstairs to my room to get any work done, and it was the best way to fritter away the hours. I love living alone but I miss those evenings.

Saaaaaaame.  I love living alone too but those evenings were the best.  Also our house was nicely arranged so that the two who liked to go to bed early sometimes were downstairs and the night owls were upstairs, so when the early birds were sleeping sometimes I would go hangout in Nicole’s room and it was also the best.

Once More With Feeling: A “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” 20th Birthday Roundtable

Buffy is a queer rite of passage. Everybody’s got a Buffy story. These are some of ours.

Feels!  I loved reading these Buffy stories - tell me about yours, if you want! Here are a few of mine: 1.) I saw my first episode at Megan's house when I was 10 - it was the season 3 finale and I got scared of the mayor snake and went to hide in Megan's room, and her parents made her come hang out with me and miss the end of the episode.  I still feel guilty about it. (Sorry, Megan!) 2.) I got an impulse tattoo of a drawing of Anya's power centre necklace when I was 23 - I love Anya's character, and wanted to be as self-assured as she is. 3.) I was at the A-Camp with the singalong mentioned at the end of this article - it was just as delightful as it sounds. 4.) My sisters and I have a dance that we do to the opening credits (it has very simple steps so you can do while sitting).

The holidays are making me miss Bo a lot, but I’m doing my holiday cards today and got to sign off from my new loves for the first time, so that's pretty wonderful. 🖤❄️🖤❄️

Grief is a weird thing part 3 (sorry that I keep posting sad cat ramblings, feel free to skip obvs)

I still miss Bo a lot sometimes.  I’m remembering last year when I was studying for exams and had to get her to the vet last minute because her balance issues were acting up again, and how worried I was to be leaving her over the holidays, but also I’ve been looking over old photos and videos of her just looking happy to be snuggling.  I have to take Pancake (one of my new kitty loves that I adopted at the end of September) to the vet tomorrow for a dental and possible middle ear cleaning, and I know he is going to be fine because this is routine and he’s only 6 years old, but it’s still making me feel a lot of feelings.

I still haven’t picked up Bo’s paw print from the vet - it came in after her ashes and I haven’t been able to bring myself to go back yet. 

It just feels sometimes like my life is split into the time when Bo was here and the time that she’s not, and it feels weirder the more time goes on.  Like, I started dating someone new, and I still talk about Bo sometimes but they will never meet her?  And it feels weird to have someone in my life who has never met Bo? Because Bo was often one of the first things someone would find out about me.   

Anyway, painting my nails gray and snuggling with Pan and Pal have been helping.  And don’t get me wrong, I love my new kitty loves fiercely, so much.  But Bo will always have a big place in my heart.

Having a hard time with my brain this weekend but I went to karaoke tonight and there were two queer folx singing this song to each other and it restored my faith in humanity, so.

Self care tonight is a What We Do In the Shadows card for a friend - this swearwolf turned out more like a swearpuppy, but I'm still pretty pleased.

Getting ready to go celebrate a friend's surprise wedding by eating leftover pancakes with a blanket over me so I don't get syrup on my dress, which was too much work to get on to bother changing to eat. Just learned last night that you can get pancakes from Red Wagon any friggin' time that they're open, so that's pretty great.
