F loves nature: she enjoys collecting pinecones, special rocks, and finding roly-polys and slugs. She's been obsessed with dinosaurs since learning about them last year at [redacted], and enjoys both imaginative play and naming dino types. She also likes reading books, creating games, making crafts, and building with LEGO.
F is not an adventurous eater. She was also in speech therapy for the last year, but her therapist has been happy with progress and ended treatment this Spring.
To the best of our ability, we have followed the Montessori philosophy with F from infancy. We were drawn to the tenants [ww: tenets] around respecting a child's natural curiosity, and fostering deep learning through self-directed exploration. F had a floor bed, a rotation of simple toys, and accessible opportunities to nurture independence including a mirror/coat hooks at her level, and a learning tower so she could help with food prep and dishes, etc.
We value learnings through books, physical materials and real-world experiences versus screen-dominant teaching. We hope for F to feel a sense of belonging and responsibility to the wider community, as well as develop stewardship for nature.
