Stronger

I’ve been teased before.

One time in 7th grade a girl said I looked like a guy because I looked like I had a mustache.

Another time some boys laughed at me for wearing my mom’s cardigan.

This other time, someone made a big deal about me using a Vaseline for my skin.

Being a person with eczema puts a serious strain on your self-confidence. Sometimes people give you crap just for trying to take care of yourself. And it sucks, it always does.

But you know what I learned? There will constantly be people trying to put you down, but the only way you let them win is if you actually believe in what they’re saying.

Don’t give those type of people your time of day. Just pity them for that moment and move on. Everyone is more than just the sum of their parts. So change your perspective and try to teach others how to trust in their own confidence to just be themselves.

After these middle school years, I still have a bit of discoloration, I still wear some of my Mom’s cardigans, and I still keep a mini Vaseline with me wherever I go. But you know what? That’s what makes me happy, so I’m still gonna do it. :)

What I learned in my childhood:

Life should be simple. Life should be sweet. Life should black and white.

But it’s not. Life is complex. Life has its ups and downs. Life is just one big gray area.

And that’s okay. It’s time we accept that there are some things we can be and somethings we can never be because each one of us is different. And that can be a good thing.

Beauty, love, and true potential shines in each and every one of us. So don’t limit who you are and who you can be by being someone else. Seek confidence in yourself and don’t be afraid of fitting in because even though we are all just one big gray area we still hold our own hue.

Don’t be afraid to be Yourself

We don’t have to be ashamed. We don’t have to fear. We don’t have to keep asking ourselves why we can’t be the other person.

Ever notice how you are more self-conscious on social media than when you’re just alone by yourself? Sometimes it feels like the more you keep scrolling down, the more things you’ll try to compare yourself with? This is the effect of giving in to one of the things that challenges us the most: our insecurities.

Changing the way we absorb information can help us to use social media as a cultural lens rather than a melting pot of negative energy. Let’s start this change together, it can be very simple:

1) Be confident in who you are.

2) Be open minded in accepting other peoples ideas.

3) Be true, and never try to be someone you’re not.
