Because Natasha cut her hair, will that be incorporated into the Carmilla movie? Or will it just go unnoticed?
Generally speaking, when a person gets their hair cut, unless it’s like getting a buzzcut after having waist-length hair, it isn’t really noticed or acknowledged into the canon.
Watching Carmilla was a big deal for me as it made me realize that it was totally acceptable and realistic for me to have a girlfriend someday. Thank you so much for what you and the rest of the Carmilla team created.
You will, friend. Trust me. We all feel that way when we’re young and we’re just figuring ourselves out. I felt that way all through college. I feel that way now. We have to find ourselves and love ourselves before we can love another. You will find a girlfriend, and she’ll love you for who you are. Thank you for watching the show and thank you for this message. We do it for you guys. <3
Hi! So, I have to ask, were the tweets meant to have any meaning? (The garbled ones from both the times Laura was away from everyone.) Cause like, I tried so hard to understand them. I did get to crack what the symbols meant and the phrases they formed but no further meaning after that. Also, were those tweets more hard or more fun?
They did! Each one was run through a translator to make them more exciting/backwards, etc. But here’s a translation from the spreadsheet. Are you familiar with The Never Ending Story and the idea of the Room of a Thousand Doors? That’s where we drew inspiration, that and the “there’s no place like home” mantra from The Wizard of Oz, plus a general Silas U weird beat.
So here’s a translation. :)

What was your favorite part of working behind the scenes on Carmilla?
The opportunity to work with such a diverse, talented group of people, for sure. The friendships I formed on this show will be with me for a long, long time, and I’m so, so grateful for them.
I was with Carmilla since the middle of season one and it's so amazing to see how far this once little webseries has gone. Laura is such a truly inspiring character and will surely remain in my heart for years to come. I'm also about to start college in January, and ready to give it the good ol Silas try. Thank you and everyone involved for such an incredible and beautiful story. 💕💕💕
You got this, lovely! I’m so glad you watched the show and enjoyed it as much as you did. <3
How do you go about choosing music for the transmedia Tumblrs? Is it all music you were already a fan of or aware of and just went with how it fit with the moment, or do you specifically go searching for new music? I just recently found Carmilla's post in S2 of Alanis Morissette's "Head Over Feet" (after her and Laura did the do lol) and I think it's such a perfect song for that moment, like the lyrics are sooooo infatuated Carmilla. Havent stopped listening to it since.
Oh man, music is really fun. I listen to a ton of music, across all genres. I blame this on my dad. He’s a radio DJ and a music director for a radio station in New England, which means I was raised around a lot of diverse musical elements. I’ve always wondered if I missed my calling as a music picker for TV shows, honestly, because I enjoy doing it so much.
A lot of that process is basically listening to music with the story in mind and trying to find something that really fits with the mood/theme of the episode. Some of the music I select is new/unknown to me. As I grew up in the 90s, Alanis isn’t exactly new to me, and her “angry young woman” music definitely fit Carmilla in that moment, because of how raw that song is, and how overpowering that love feels for her. Same with that London Grammar cover of “Wicked Game.”
Soooo happy to see this in the TV After Dark piece, glad to see this acknowledged "in print" because I agree wholeheartedly: "Carmilla’s social media game is emphatically better than any other show’s. It has to go mentioned that ‘Carmilla’ on social media has been excellent—and it has to be a huge factor into propelling the turbine of success."
Hi, I wanted to ask, what was it like being responsible for the carmilla social media? Did you have to respond to people in character or did others help? Did you read the script and then create the transmedia story line along side? Fascinated by this
It’s a lot of work behind the scenes. What was done this season was a little more complicated because of the act drops - we had to figure out how to represent a social media storyline - which is by nature daily - when the drop schedule didn’t allow for that. Social Media for Carmilla was all about finding the little bits of things and unraveling them to add some depth.
I wrote the social media as the scripts came in, and then rewrote once we figured out the drop schedule. The podcasts were another element of the storytelling this season that I absolutely adored. They were written back in May and then finalized in August. I wrote those (with the help of the amazing Julia) to really play with the idea of an audio soundscape for the pit and also to give a sense of reality to that part of the story that seemed so fantastic when it was just hinted at in the series script - it was an experiment for everyone involved! But man, Nicole freaking killed it. Podcasts are definitely something I want to consider writing again in the future.
As with the past two seasons, Jordan did her voice pass and got the characters saying exactly what she wanted exactly how she wanted right before the tweets went up. This process usually involves her looking over things and giving her okay, but she’ll also tweak phrasing and stuff like that as needed. After that I scheduled all the tweets, and get cracking on live responses. Those are done as they come in - or as the need arose. This season there was less of them on twitter because of the act drops - but there were still live responses on Tumblr, which was really fun. I do all of those myself.
Hi... Not sure if here is the right place to ask, but maybe one of the followers know or you can forward this to someone that does, so my question is, how do you access the bundles (Christmas and movie) subtitles? The vhx player doesn't have an subtitte/cc option and I can't find the files to download to watch on my computer player... I'm lost. Could anyone help me please? Thanks a lot in advance!!!
Hey guys, I’m not sure, but can anyone else help a creampuff out?
Info: you can view the vhx content by signing in on the vhx website, clicking on your avatar and choosing "library". That way you don't have to click the link from the email every time to access the files.
I want to thank you for everything. Especially for LaFontaine. Because of them, I found myself. When I first started watching Carmilla, I was confused and scared, especially when it came to gender. I'd never even heard of nonbinary people before so seeing that opened my world up. Now, I'm so much more comfortable and confident in myself, I've found the greatest friends I could ever have, and I couldn't be happier. You all literally saved me. Thank you.
