if the soul can be separated from the body like in deltarune

why don't they just do that in undertale to deal with the barrier

sure that would suck for us, the player, but it seems like an additional outcome that isn't possible in game

No one aside from Flowey/Asriel and Chara have explicit knowledge of the soul and player relationship.

Asgore, who you’re battling at the barrier, would most likely believe that Frisk is dead either way.

Also, in both deltarune and undertale, the soul still belongs to their respective protagonist (Both get weak and die if you take too much damage, for example.), the soul just also happens to be controlled by you, the player. Which means, you know, when the barrier absorbs their soul…frisk would still, like, die and stuff. Probably.

So while I like where your brain’s going, canonically it probably couldn’t be a thing.

…But i mean i wouldn’t complain if someone dropped a fanfic or something with this alternate ending, just sayin—

I had a weird ass dream today

it felt like I was reading a tumbler webcomic, but I could only see the comic pages but somehow knew what the outside text said

it was in a Deltarune au that may or may not be real where clover undertale yellow was just chilling there. the caption was "Clover's ralsei meets normal ralsei" and I think clovers ralsei was a toy they made with the intent to be like ralsei. so the comic opens with kris and ralsei talking about how exited they are to meet clovers ralsei, then in the next panel clovers ralsei appears, and then normal ralsei explodes in a gory mess. I think the reasoning was that there can't be 2 ralseis at once or something? then the next panel had clovers ralsei trauma dumping to the fun gang (which makes sense because the first few seconds of his existence were a different version of him exploding) and then kris said "your fired" and then he exploded too. they all looked at kris and then kris shrugged and said "he was fired" and then I woke up
