Something is inserted, or taken out, or examined Something lies dormant inside and it's been there all along Or you've swallowed it, or you've spit it out Ten years or ten moments ago Reflected in my eyes or floating behind yours In your mother's mother or your child's child In dream or awake.
Hello Emmet, upper management pulled me into a meeting this week to talk about replacing Ingo. I think- No, I know that they can tell that I’m not acting “correct” anymore, and some of them are convinced that I’m going to go off the rails like you did. They want me to hire someone so I can train them, so that if I crash, they can just fire you. I told you that I’m going to protect you though, so I am going to make sure that doesn’t happen. Luckily enough members were nostalgic for the battle subway that I was able to appeal to them and keep that from happening. I think. I don’t know. Something about it felt weird. Not like I was controlling them but-
You know the mythical Meloetta, legends say that its song has the ability to alter someone’s emotions.
It was like-
I can’t- I – I don’t want to lose everything again.
But I don’t want to mess with people like that ever again.
But I also-
I enjoy- I liked being in control. I liked- I- I- I’m sorry.
[You are Depot Agent Jackie, and you are headed to my office to tell me something. What you’re going to tell me is clouded by the exasperated feeling you have about being the one who was sent in to tell me this thing. You don’t feel worried though, so it’s likely nothing bad. You yourself are a bit of an anomaly inhabiting this station. We’d always known about the jokes about you being a ghost haunting the station, and it wasn’t until our change that I’d learned that that rumor was somewhat true. You are technically a ghost haunting the station, but you’re not tied to the station like most people theorize. You are in fact completely capable of walking out the door and going far away, you just simply choose not to. Your autonomy is more comparable to that of a ghost pokemon, and you likely were destined to become one when you had died on this land long ago, but something had gone wrong, and now you’re mostly a human ghost. But what you are isn’t relevant to why you’re here, other than the amusement that you aren’t scared of me like every other medium and psychic in the city. Pokemon have never been scared of me though, so perhaps it’s just a factor of your mishap during your manifestation.
You knock, then enter, and then make your way over to my desk, where I have been trying my best to not look like I’ve known you were on your way this whole time. I smile and greet you, then you greet me back, and then once the pleasantries are over you sit down in the chair across from mine.]
Jackie: A bunch of us are headed out for drinks tomorrow night if you’d like to join.
MIRROR:
[I know that I probably shouldn’t, that I, MIRROR am getting far too attached to this world. But keeping us connected with our team is also important, and we do need to break routine occasionally. Keeping busy keeps the grief away, but when busy becomes mundane the grief finds its way in. We might not be the most entertaining person in the room anymore, but it’s good for us to get out. I nodded my head and agreed to go. You seem surprised by this, you’d expected me to have fought more, or more likely given an inconclusive answer that was probably a no. I give you a soft smile.]
I don’t think I’ve been invited to one of these since, ah, you know…
Jackie: We haven’t had one, nobody has been in the mood, but with how things have been going lately we decided that it might not be a bad idea.
MIRROR: Things have been going back to normal. It’s not a bad idea to have fun.
[You nod and with it I notice something else lingering in your mind. You want to ask something, but you aren’t quite sure if you want the answer for it, or if you even will get one. I subtly nudge you mind to say what it is you want to say.]
Jackie: We were all worried about you when you came back after your leave. You were so angry and upset before, and when you came back all happy like nothing had happened, we’d worried that management had sent you off to get like mind controlled or something. Not saying that we like you depressed more, but I’m glad that you’re dropping the act around us again.
MIRROR: Am I acting depressed?
Jackie: Not around the passengers don’t worry and you’re not anything like what you were like before your leave. You’re just like not smiling as much and being more quiet, stuff like that.
MIRROR: ah.
[You look at the door then back at me, you’ve seemed to have steeled yourself up to ask your real second question.]
Jackie: When you came back, there was something different about you. I’d been worried because there was also the personality flip alongside it, then a few months ago there was another change, but you were also mostly back to normal so I didn't worry about it too much. Ever since then though, I’ve noticed our psychic type ridership has been down. I'm not sure if you are aware, but to those of us who are sensitive to supernatural forces you have a pressure to you that is extremely overwhelming if you're not expecting it. You're still definitely you, just brighter.
MIRROR: I have been told about it yes, although I am unsure how to make it less imposing.
[I debate telling you more about it, but I don't debate long. I fear that if I avoid the topic you will become worried in a way that you currently are not.]
During my leave I encountered a legendary pokemon that was curious about humankind, it did something to me but it didn't explain what would happen. I've been dealing with the best I can.
[You nod and accept the explanation, and I notice that there is a part of you that pities me. While I have become accustomed to other's feeling bad over me, having it directed towards what we're becoming feels strange. We were chosen from the beginning because we were easy to take advantage of and you've figured that out.]
Jackie: If you need to talk about it I'll be here.
