Enjolras pressed his hand with a smile. This smile was not ended when the report resounded.
@barricadeday 2025: Do you permit it?
Happy "permets-tu ?" To those who mourn
omg. I almost forgot barricade day
The problem with shipping enjoltaire is that with a lot of other ships if they die tragically you can be like “oh no that’s so awful it should never have happened they should have lived!!” But you can’t do that with exr.
It’s like yes, I love them, and also that was the only way it could have happened and the most meaningful way that it could’ve happened. Not just from a historical or even a character standpoint but because That scene was the greatest and only way their story could end.
Me, reading: Why is this stupid books so sad?
My friend: You're literally reading a book called "The Miserables", what did you expect?
og here but I had to enjolrasify
“Thus, since a prince is compelled of necessity to know well how to use the beast, he should pick the fox and the lion, because the lion does not defend itself from snares and the fox does not defend itself from wolves. So one needs to be a fox to recognize snares and a lion to frighten the wolves” -Niccolo Machiavelli
A ruler must be both strong and smart. The strength to keep people frightened under his rule and the intelligence to realize the plots of those around them and counteract them.
“Thus, it is not necessary for a prince to have all the above-mentioned qualities in fact, but it is indeed necessary to appear to have them. Nay, I dare say this, that by having them and always observing them, they are harmful; and by appearing to have them, they are useful, as it is to appear merciful, faithful, humane, honest, and religious” -Niccolo Machiavelli
Contrary to the common human belief that it is better to be a good person, a prince cannot be a good person but instead seems to be one. A prince is all about appearances and showing the reflection the people want to see.
The Death of Caesar by Vincenzo Camuccini
“It is desirable to be both loved and feared; but it is difficult to achieve both and, if one of them has to be lacking, it is much safer to be feared than loved” -Niccolo Machiavelli
“Make mistakes of ambition and not mistakes of sloth. Develop the strength to do bold things, not the strength to suffer”
-Niccolo Machiavelli
Machiavelli: It is better to fall while trying to sprint up the stairs rapidly than forever standing at the bottom staring at the top
“For he who seizes a tyranny and does not kill Brutus, and he who sets a state free and does not kill Brutus’ sons, maintains himself but a little while”
-Niccolo Machiavelli
A ruler must eliminate all future threats, instead of just the present immediate threats.
“A prudent man should always follow in the path trodden by great men and imitate those who are most excellent, so that if he does not attain to their greatness, at any rate he will get some tinge of it” -Niccolo Machiavelli
“The first opinion which one forms of a prince, and of his understanding, is by observing the men he has around him.”
-Niccolo Machiavelli
If a prince is surrounded by intelligent people, he himself is probably intelligent. A prince mirrors the qualities of the people around him. Like attracts like as they say.
“This is to be asserted in general of men, that they are ungrateful, fickle, false, cowardly, covetous and as long as you succeed they are yours entirely; they will offer you their blood, property, life and children when the need is far distant; but when it approaches they turn against you.”
-Niccolo Machiavelli
“If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared.”
-Niccolo Machiavelli
When establishing their power a ruler must fully crush anyone in their way so that they don’t even consider retaliating.
