First Love // Zack & Aerith
Love can be a terrifying thing, really. One minute it’s just you out there in the world, doing your best to get by on your own, and then bam, someone comes along outta nowhere, like an angel falling out of the sky and landing right at your door. And before you know it, you’re so crazy about them that you’ll gladly do the stupidest crap, like jump off a bridge for them, sometimes just because they jumped first and you don’t want to be standing alone on that bridge without them. You’re dropping your sword in the middle of a critical situation, because you just can’t ignore her call and miss the chance to hear her voice, even if it’s only for a second to say you’re busy and can’t talk. You’ll do anything for her, to please her, to be next to her. It’s such a natural, gradual occurrence that you don’t even realize it’s happening. She becomes a part of your life, your boring daily routine. And you’ll need her so desperately, like she’s that final piece that completes the puzzle, but you’ll never realize just how much you need her until you’re all alone, holding her final letter that says she’s tired of waiting for you to come back home.
For a seventeen year old SOLDIER who didn’t know anything about anything if it didn’t involve swinging a sword, it was just about the most terrifying.. yet wonderful thing he didn’t even know was happening to him. When he slept it was her memory he fell asleep to, and when he woke it was her bright smile that filled his mind before the rays of daylight even reached his eyes. He found himself getting distracted constantly, always wandering off in his daydreams to a patch of yellow Easter lilies and a girl in a white dress who grew life with her bare hands, happiness with her smile, and love with her pure and gentle heart. When everything around him was falling apart, he found sanctuary in the slums, in the bright green eyes of Aerith Gainsborough.
"Hm? Oh, nothing, nothing! Just thinkin’ about stuff. It’s just so sad, you know? These poor flowers must feel pretty low when you stand next to them. You really put ‘em to shame."
A laugh escaped from closed lips, as she gazed upon the features she loved more then anything else in this world. Just one look at him, and she knew that everything would be just fine. Maybe she was just young, and a bit stupid. But, this was something she'd never experienced before in all of her 16 years of living. And, she'd be crazy if she'd let something this special to her ever get away. Not like she would ever even let the thought of leaving him become a reality. That would be quite the awful reality on her end.
Her head tilted to one side slightly, in a cutesy type of manner. Gaze softening before she opened her mouth to make a retort to his statement.
"That means you shouldn't be near them either.
Those eyes could make even the prettiest flower look dull."
The tone of her voice indicated she was only joking, yet she kept her expression unwavering to make it seem as if she was being completely serious. The words were true either way. His eyes were something else, that was for sure.
