Prenatal and First Trimester Power Foods
As most of you know, I am a health food-holistic living advocate! While I don’t use titles such as vegetarian or vegan (because I occasionally eat seafood and chicken--I blame it on my native Louisiana roots) I will say that I am FOOD CONSCIOUS. Meaning that I am aware of what I eat and what chemicals/ingredients go into my body. I cook with as much fresh produce as possible and I limit my intake of processed, GMO foods. My husband and I are in the stages of planning for our second child. In the meantime, I am making sure that I am eating healthy, powerful foods to support my body as I continue to breastfeed and (hopefully) grow another child in my womb :) For lunch/dinner today, I prepared red lentils (Ethiopian style with berbere seasoning and I added Japanese sweet potatoes) with stewed okra and organic brown rice!! Yummy yummy! For my beverage, I am drinking a herbal infusion mix (nettles, red raspberry, dandelion, alfalfa, oatstraw). Anyway, here are a list of good foods to support your prenatal health!
Lentils
Why They’re Important: Protein is important during each trimester, as it aids in the proper growth of your baby’s tissue and muscle.
Okra
Why It’s Important: Okra is high in folic acid, which helps prevent birth defects.
Citrus Fruit
Why It’s Important: Citrus fruit is also very high in folic acid, which can help prevent birth defects.
Nuts
Why They’re Important: Pregnant women need an extra 60 grams of protein a day beginning the first trimester of pregnancy.
Eggs
Why They’re Important: Aside from being an excellent source of protein, eggs are high in calcium and Vitamin D as well, both of which are needed for your baby to properly form bones.
Broccoli
Why It’s Important: Broccoli is surprisingly high in iron, which is needed in the first trimester to form red blood cells in your baby.
Beans
Why They’re Important: Beans are a great source of protein, which is needed for muscle growth and energy.
Yogurt
Why It’s Important: Yogurt is high in calcium and Vitamin D, and eating it ensures your body is getting enough, which prevents your baby from having to “steal” it from your bones.
Chicken
Why It’s Important: Chicken is high in iron, which creates red blood cells and helps your body get enough oxygen. But do note that it’s best for pregnant women to eat organic, hormone-free meats during pregnancy.
Salmon
Why It’s Important: Salmon is high in calcium and Vitamin D, and is one of the safer fish to eat while pregnant.
Don’t forget, drink plenty of water everyday!! I strive to drink one gallon everyday as a nursing mama!!
What is Tandem Nursing?
As a mother to a beautiful almost 13-month old daughter, my husband and I are planning on expanding our family! It’s an honor, to be in the position, to consciously conceive a new soul onto the Earth plane. Our first daughter, Zola, surpassed any and all expectations that new parents could have. I have and continue to exclusively breastfeed her. It’s been an incredible experience nursing her. I love her beautiful, sweet gaze. She’s pure joy and light. Everyday, she get’s more and more character. I plan on nursing her as long as my body or as long as she wants :) With that said, now that we are about to bring another child Earthside, I must seriously consider tandem nursing. As you can imagine, this task can be very daunting. While nursing in itself is one of motherhood's most joyous experiences it also requires lot’s of dedication and patience.Tandem breastfeeding is simply breastfeeding siblings. MY daughter, who is going to be a toddler, when the new baby arrives, may feel the need to nurse for emotional reassurance. Benefits for tandem feeding include:
1) Easier Transition
2) No abrupt or premature weaning
These two reasons are very important because once a new baby arrives, your toddler can begin to feel territorial. In fact, some toddlers who stopped nursing during the mama’s pregnancy because of changing hormones, may start back nursing once the new baby is here. Tandem nursing allows your toddler to be comforted while also allowing the two siblings to develop a strong relationship. Reason number 2 is wonderful as well because there are lot’s of reasons for continuing to breastfeed past the age of 1.
Making Tandem Nursing Work                            Â
1. Always position the baby first, and then let your (more flexible) toddler arrange him - or herself around the baby. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
2. Make sure the baby gets the chance to nurse on the fuller side first. Your toddler needs this special time of closeness, but unlike your infant, is not depending solely on breastmilk for nutrition. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
3. Use pillows under your arms and/or behind your back to make it        more comfortable as you nurse and cuddle two.
To all of the beautiful mothers in the world who chose to take this route, peace and blessing to you! To the mama’s who are now considering embarking on tthis journey, remember to keep an open mind, continue to take care of yourselves (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually) and don’t forget that you are not alone in this walk! Millions before you and after you will tandem feed as well. Together, we can give birth to a nation of intelligent, emotionally-stable children!

Wheatgrass and fertility
Wheatgrass has recently gained in popularity and is showing up in juice bars everywhere. When I think of wheatgrass, I think of cows grazing in a pasture, but it's a great food for people too. So why is wheatgrass so good for fertility?  Here are some reasons: It is a high alkaline food.  You need a balanced pH level so that your body is sperm friendly.  Wheatgrass also contains folic acid.  Folic acid has been found to prevent neural tube defects and it's recommended that women who are trying to conceive take folic acid BEFORE they try to get pregnant. Wheatgrass also enhances men's fertility because it is high in antioxidants.  Sperm are actually very fragile creatures.  Men who have a diet high in antioxidants can protect their sperm from free radical damage due to environmental factors. Wheatgrass is known to purify the blood and tonify the liver and kidneys for detoxification. There are also external ways to use wheatgrass, for example, did you know you could bathe in it?  As odd as that sounds, you can add some wheatgrass juice to your bath water and soak for 1/2 hour. Â
Conscious conception allows us too look at trying to conceive in a very different light, instead of spending our time "trying", we're looking at opening and allowing our babies.
Innerview with Lady Shabazz on Black male and female relationships
About 3 hours longs but worth it
Given a normal, healthy cultural framework, Afrikan women nurture. It is a most admirable spiritual quality. And, because of this, females are our primary nurturers. This is not a point of debate or contention between men and women in a social environment naturally modeled after the rhythm of the Universe. Why would we select yurugu’s sexist, misogynistic misinterpretation of women over the traditions of our Ancestors? Our Ancestors knew women as the Creator, Spirit, Mother Earth, as our natural, ultimate nurturers, as first teachers. And we knew this for more afreasons than just that they gave birth and nursed our babies. Invidious gender distinctions had no place in a reality based on balance or in the division of labor based on spiritual qualities. What men were better at did not elevate them above women, socially, politically, intimately, or otherwise. What women were better at did not make them into a western defined domineering matriarchy determined to abusively rule over men and make them feel that their roles and responsibilities were less than those of women. What men and women excelled at found balance through cooperation, not competitiveness. There was a complementarity-based order in male/female relationships. Gender was not a source of antagonism between Afrikan women and men. That is a European inheritance.

basically ever since I tweeted the first tweet… I’ve had to combat the most ignorant white souls on this planet… All of them using the same excuses.. All of them making it about themselves rather than admitting the injustices..All of them calling me racist for speaking the truth… The sad thing is for once I can say people on tumblr understand more than twitter…
It’s saddening and disgusting that they still attempt to remain blind.. It’s exhausting and I’m sick of educating the hopeless..
ALL of the facts and proof but you still bypass it all to say “NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE” They care more about not looking racist than they do about the injustices that have occurred

Week 6. I’m almost caught up with my soup project, and here’s another amazing soup that I made. This is originally supposed to have quinoa in it. A grain I’ve wanted to try for years and I always chicken out. Preparation is supposed to be easy, but I manage to mess it up every time. I’ll keep...
Yesterday I posted this glorious stack of pancakes I made in the middle of the day and got a few requests for the recipe. I try to make just about everything I eat healthier in some way, even if it’s small. Since Christmas, I’ve been on an American pancake kick (I’m missing home) and I’m...
Sorry I’m a day late posting this week’s soup. Time got ahead of me, but without further ado, here we go!
If you remember last week, I said I was looking for something more filling. So far my soups have been delicious, but a bit too light for breastfeeding me and always hungry D. Seiji...
