Atem didn’t hesitate to send a glare towards Heba at the mention of his betrayal to his soul partner, but right now wasn’t a good time to argue. Not when they were still in enemy territory. Sighing, the Pharaoh slowly followed after his friend, he didn’t have to trust him, but right now he didn’t have a choice.
Making sure to stay close to avoid being separated, Atem only nodded his head as he continued to follow to a nearby room. They were lucky to have not been found by other members by now, but maybe everyone who could have been was inside that room. Well, no need to really worry about them anymore. The bigger issue was finding something for the Pharaoh to wear until they arrived back home.
Catching the cloak as soon as she noticed the article of clothing being tossed towards her. Blinking at the cloak, he grimaced at the thought of having to wear it, but knew it was better than walking outside in bloodied clothing. Slipping it on over his clothes, Atem took a few seconds to think. Did he remember how to drive? Surely Yuugi wouldn’t have let him drive her car, but he made sure to pay attention long enough to understand the concept. “I mean, Yuugi never let me drive her car, but I know how to.”
Great, walking would have taken a lot longer and Heba didn't feel like trying to walk that far with someone covered in blood. “You'll have to keep from getting pulled over, I didn't grab Yugi's wallet.” He nodded his head toward the door and lead the other back out of the room, taking the hallway to the stairs that lead once more to the doors that covered the entrance to the cellar. He nudged the open and climbed out first, waiting for Atem to join him before starting to walk toward where the car was.
“They didn't take the keys out of it when we got here and we're quite a ways away from Domino. I think we're on the outskirts of it actually I remember passing Kaiba Corp but not the Game Shop.” It wasn't much to go on but Heba hadn't lived in this world long enough to get a better understanding of the towns layout. He remembered sights though which should help them and his memory wasn't to bad considering he was used to navigating a desert.
He climbed into the passenger seat and buckled himself in, checking Atem once more to make sure he was emotionally stable enough to drive before turning his attention once more down to the small book he had stolen off of the man. He didn't understand it, and not for the first time since he had woken up here he wished that Mahaad was with them. Or even Mana, she studied magic long enough that she probably could have understood this.
“Did you see them?” A page in in the book was flipped before Heba spoke again, his teeth lightly digging into his lip. “Mahaad, Mana—Shimon? I don't—the time I spent in the after life it slowly starts to vanish from my memory like a dream. I can't remember them much, even my Grandfather.”
kuxi-n:
In a way, Atem knew Heba was right. He wasn’t supposed to be showing weakness right now - not if he wanted things to be reversed. Atem despised Heba right now, but if they were going to fix this they had to work together for the time being. Taking a few deep breathes, Atem went to stand straight up again, wiping the tears that lingered in his eyes.
Glancing over as Heba left to take a book, Atem’s interest peaked. Never minding the man who looked as though his head would come clean off if he had cut a little deeper. “If Yuugi’s with Anubis, I doubt they’d want any more souls somehow slipping out.” Messing with a God wasn’t a good idea, they were lucky no reproccusions had been spent while they messed with the natural order. Well, in a way, Atem murdering them was plenty of retribution enough.
For the most part, the body was mostly intact. Except the runes that burned his skin. Even if they would be able to bring Yuugi back, these runes would still be engraved in her skin. He wasn’t aware of the runes that lingered on his friend’s back, but this little book had to have the answers, right? The only problem was, they didn’t really understand what the book said. He didn’t know magic, and he doubted Heba did, either.
“Where do you suggest we go, then? I can’t really go outside covered in blood.” The Pharaoh pointed out, motioning to the ruined sweat pants and tank top that was soiled by the blood, already staining the fibers. “We don’t even know where we are.”
“I just murdered the soul of your partner, I know where I am and I know how I got here.” Saying it out loud—it didn't help. If anything it caused the feelings twisting around in his gut to burn even more but he shoved them aside because he didn't deserve to feel any of that, not when Atem was feeling it a hundred times worse on top of several other things.
“Don't trust me Atem, but at the very least follow me.” He didn't dare look back to the other again, he just took the nearest door and stepped out, keeping his eyes open for anyone who might not have been in the room with them as he made his way toward where he remembered the entrance was. “There were other rooms on the way to that one, there should be something in here you can at least wipe off with and then change into.”
Heba stopped outside one of them and opened the door up, checking first if it was clear before pushing it the rest of the way open and heading inside. It looked like a storage room and after digging around through several boxes he pulled out a cloak and tossed it at the Pharaoh. “It's one of the cloaks those people were wearing, it should at least hide everything until we get back to Yugi's apartment. In your time here did you happen to learn how to drive one of their vehicles or are we walking?”
xltruistic:
“N-no, I’m being honest, I–!” Oh, there was no reasoning with him, was there? It certainly seemed that way, for such words were spoken in near finality, as if nothing could convince him otherwise. Ryou could hardly think of anything else that would plead his case.
It was a flattering belief, really, that the other swore he possessed some form of magic. Perhaps… a surrender was in order.
“A-alright, alright… I may be– perhaps just in the slightest– a bit magical.” Would the (hesitant) admittance please the other? Why the need of such confirmation? “… Did you perhaps… want a reading done?” It was the best guess he could make.
“There is no in between you are either magical or you're not. Since you admitted to be magic that means you are.” He declared, completely set in his belief of this. Why was he so reluctant to admit he had magic? Mana used to run around showing off what she could do simply because of the fact that she could do it. He thought this Ryou person was doing the same, using the cards to show what he could do with magic. Maybe he was just weird though.
“No, I was curious because if you have magic you'd believe me when I told you I'm supposed to be dead.” Ah, that probably should have been said a bit more carefully, he was just so used to the idea that he was dead that it came out easily. “More accurately I did die, five thousand years ago, in a war.”
kuxi-n:
Those who say a Pharaoh is blessed is a damn liar. Atem felt like life was getting a kick out of tormenting him. Dying at a young age, having the world placed on his shoulders, the death of his father. NOW it got even worse by being forced to spend his life in the body of someone he loved. No one would understand how this felt. To be betrayed by a close friend, to lose someone he cared about most dear.
Killing a room full of people would not bring Yuugi back. There was no possible way he knew of that would ever bring her back from Anubis. She..was gone. And he had to live his life knowing this. Feeling the grip on his wrist, Atem stared at Heba. Unsure if killing him would even make everything better. He had already killed plenty of people already..what was one more going to hurt?
No. He couldn’t bring himself to kill a close friend. Even if he had betrayed him..even if he was the cause of this. Atem couldn’t do it.
Atem sighed. Shaking his head as he tore his wrist away from his touch, dropping the knife onto the stone flooring. Was his soft heart returning to him or was it because of Yuugi? No, it couldn’t have been because of Yuugi. She was gone.
“I won’t kill you.” The voice making her cringe. It was even hard to speak because all he could think about was her. If Yuugi was here, she would have been traumatized to see her own body covered in blood, but it was just Atem now. “I can’t..” Tears began to well in the Pharaoh’s eyes as she gripped the front of Heba’s shirt, getting down on his knees before him.
It wasn’t often the Pharaoh would cry..but right now all Atem could feel was anguish and pain. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. Yuugi was supposed to still be here! He was supposed to be in the after life. He was meant to be dead..
“I..I can’t live like this.” The male tried to breathe, pain striking his lungs. He must’ve looked pathetic..using his new body to only cry. Did he feel remorse for what he did? No, of course not. But he felt so guilty for taking Yuugi’s place in her life.
“You don't kneel in front of me Atem, and you shouldn't cry either. Both are a sign of weakness and neither will bring Yugi back.” If Atem wasn't going to kill him then he'd make the man hate him, by simply telling the cold truth of the situation. He had nothing left to lose and at the very least maybe hearing the truth would snap the man into something of a mental state where they could do something about what happened.
He took the others hands and untangled them from his shirt, dropping the bodies limbs back to their current owner before walking away. Heba knelt in front of the body of the man who appeared to be the leader and felt over the mans pockets, finding a small little black book covered in what was probably the mans own blood. Atem really did a number on these people.
“A soul evicted from it's own body would probably just end up either wandering or taken by Anubis to the after life.” If they brought them back then there had to be a chance that they could find Yugi, right?
There had to be an answer, he refused to believe that there was no answer and solution here because they didn't kill Yugi they just kicked her out of her own body, right? He flipped the book open and scanned through the things written in it, not quite understanding what he was looking at but at least recognizing the runes that were carved into his own body—and now Atem's, or Yugi's?
Standing back up he turned to look over at the Pharaoh. “Come on, we have to get out of here, staying in here isn't going to solve anything Atem and it certainly isn't going to help Yugi.”
