head-canon while drawing this: they all crash-land on an arid/deserted planet together while in pursuit of a yeerk commander. While searching for the yeerk, two of her comrades become nothlit because of time-compression and the planet's host star (I had just seen Interstellar) but, that doesn't stop them in the least.

(if you don't know Animorphs lore: "nothlit" means you morphed for more than 2 hours and got stuck in your current morph.)

This yeerk really messed with them, somehow.

Possibly others on their ship, or wherever they started chasing it from.

Either way, its host body is either dead or has run away in the crash, and they find the parasite trying to skulk away.

Animorphs art scene seems kinda dead on Bluesky, despite it being a running joke thing for a month during closed beta lmao Anyways, here's my take on a Hork-Bajir. I really hope the upcoming adaptation makes them actually frightening. Also if any of you draw Animorphs art, leave a comment with your Bsky so I can follow you over there (or here, if you prefer)

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, creators of the fanbase have come together to bring you a zine of nearly 200+ pages (at which point I'm not even sure we can call it a zine anymore! The correct term at this point would be anthology!), filled with art and writing.

You can download it as a PDF here, or if you just want to view it without downloading, it's available on Canva here.

Currently I'm still working on options for getting a printed release, but self-printing is still an option! Stay tuned—there should be a self-print mirror available shortly (I'll just need to change some links to QR codes, among other things).

Animorphs #23: The Pretender thoughts (pt. 6):

Okay wait, I just remembered that the first time I read this book age ~6, I interpreted Tobias turning into the rabbit at the end to be him choosing to feed himself to the other red-tailed hawk!?!?! Because, like, he says the thing about how hawks have to eat, and how he's going to protect the other rabbits. And then he notes his fellow hawk circling overhead. And then the book ends.

I don't think kid-me even questioned the idea that this book would end on its narrator choosing to die of free-range consensual cannibalism??? Because a) if anyone would, it'd be Tobias, b) if any series would, it'd be Animorphs.

And I read the series out of order, so I think I kind of just assumed for a while there that that was how Tobias's story would end? Tobias does say in ch. 27 that he wants to die, and he does spend the whole book talking about hawks eating rabbits, so honestly it's not the weirdest misreading of all time. And like, 6-year-olds tend to roll with what they read because there's 0 awareness of genre conventions, so I don't think I was nearly as horrified by that as I was by the descriptions of where grocery store meat comes from.
