Concerning “The Final Problem”
> John staying because he is “family”
> Sherlock and John pushing each other through each task as it gets harder, supporting each other and making sure they’re both standing as “soldiers”
> Sherlock choosing John and Mycroft knowing that this is Sherlock’s choice
> John being trapped in the well, likening his situation to Sherlock’s childhood friend (who, according to Sherlock’s reaction, seems to be (at the time) the most important person in his life
> John helping renovate 221B and subsequently moving back in
> Mary knowing “the kind of people they are”, and especially who they are now that she’s not around
> Sherlock and John raising Rosie together and solving crimes together for eternity
You can’t tell me that Johnlock was not made canon. Sherlock has always prided itself on not answering questions head-on, on letting the audience draw its own conclusions, on not making huge, dramatic, obvious statements. Why would this be any different? Why would they suddenly make out, or have sex, or have a big and epic love confession? That’s not how the show has proceeded all of these years. It’s been subtle, and somewhat mysterious, and open for us to figure out our own truth. I, an avid Johnlock shipper, and happy with how it ended, knowing that Sherlock and John will proceed in the rest of their lives together, with nothing coming between them. Isn’t that all we need?
And for those doubters, tell me this: How many single men, aged ~40, do you know that CHOOSE to live with another single man for the rest of their lives, raising a child together if there ISN’T some sort of relationship? Just throwing it out there.
All this to say, I am terribly disappointed in the Johnlock fandom. Just because their ship wasn’t romanticized, they’ve gone about dismissing an episode that was beautifully crafted, intellectually written and wonderfully acted. Your greedy desires are clouding a great season, a great fandom, and the potential for more episodes.
