The days until grad studio finals. Model time
I've just finished the Design Build BLUFF book. It has been a long time in the making so I hope that it is enjoyable.
This is where we started. We studied the movements of Cermak as it runs currently. The roads are build to withstand the movement of the industrial zones, but with the economic turns in the last decade and the "Green" movement industrial Cermak is disappearing. With the decline in industrial the opportunity for urban design to create new spaces allowing for economic growth.
The site that we have chosen is in light orange, proposed water taxies are orange dashed lines with spots to stop, and the red dashed lines are the proposed trolley line that will connect Cermak to the rest of Chicago.
FISK Station
With Bluff finished there is one more semester to go. And for the past two weeks I have been negligent in showing the work that I/we have been doing. Our final studio project is in Chicago Illinois. Casey Copier, Tyson Smith, and myself have created an urban project and will be working closely to create a urban site with our three individual projects. The site that we have proposed is the newly closed Fisk coal power plant, located in the Pilsen district which is 2 miles West of Lake Michigan one Cermak Rd.
Our goal in this site is to revitalize the Pilsen district through urban design. Most of the small buildings used for storage will be removed from the site, where the major buildings will remain and be reused for many purposes. In this site is a large canal that links it with the South Chicago River. The feeling is if we can create a space that expresses the importance of urban revitalization this deep in Chicago that the ideas will be expressed throughout the city.

With the close of Design Build BLUFF we pushed to start the day at sunrise, which gave us great opportunities to photograph the house in a sunrise. Throughout the day the twelve of us scrambled to finish our jobs , and it becomes difficult when many people are working in a small space. By the end of the day we had most of the house finished, and we saved a little for tomorrow. Also Jerry from mountain land design stopped by to help out on the house. With her came a ton of donations such as drawer pulls, washing machine,ADA grab bars, towel bars, door hardware, and living supplies. She has gone above and beyond to help us with this house and we are ever in her debt, thank you mountain land design.
