[ edi's been quiet lately and i'd hate to leave you all hanging, so i'll make the hiatus official. i really do adore edi, so don't expect me to delete this blog any time soon.
and i'll use the time i'm taking for this hiatus to do some more in-depth research and come up with more headcanons for her.

Nah, I… [He sat up a little.] I asked you out for a reason. I just haven’t had an actual, conventional date in…uh, ever. Literally. I don’t do this sort of thing, and obviously this isn’t even that conventional on top of it so…Y’know. I’m just playing it by ear, and I don’t wanna screw it up.
This would be my first date ever, so I have no expectations or comparisons to make. And even if it were to go terribly, I would have no regrets nor any negative feelings about it. The company matters more than the venue or the activity, or so I've heard.
[He looked around at her comment, noting the various people as he ran his thumb over her metallic knuckles. There weren’t too many, just enough—he presumed most were at more popular venues for the weekend.] Mm? Oh, yeah. Of course. If you want it to be, I mean. …I don’t wanna make this weird. Is this weird?
I don't find anything to be 'weird' at this moment. But if it would make you more comfortable, I can regard this as a casual outing instead of a date. [Her optics cycled and then focused on his face, head inclining as she regarded him.]
[He took a seat across from her, settling in and looking around at their surroundings briefly.] I’ve never been in here before. It’s kinda tucked away, no wonder there’s not a lot of people in here. [He looked up as the waitress approached and ordered a simple Guinness, lightly taking EDI’s hand once again under the table once she’d left.]
[Her fingers squeezed light around his and she nodded.] I like this venue. There are enough people to observe, but not so much that it would feel too crowded. [She regarded the people around them for a moment before settling her attention on Jeff once again.] Would this be considered a date?

Awesome, that sounds good to me. Maybe it won’t be such a bad 31st after all. [He munches on a too-big bite of cake.]
Were you expecting it to be bad?
[He gave a little grin and turned his head to meet the kiss before he pulled back and began setting himself up a plate of cake.] Thanks. Maybe I’ll throw some shindig down in the mess or something later. I’m sure everyone would appreciate a Thursday off.
I can put together a party if you would like one. Though I would suggest waiting until at least the afternoon, as a vast majority of the crew would not be interested in 'partying' before then. And according to my knowledge of upcoming missions, operations, and various other events, I believe that a day off can be arranged.
Sweet! Thanks, EDI. It looks great. [He got out a few supplies and began to cut himself a hefty piece from it.]
You're very welcome, Jeff. [She gave him a small smile and pressed a kiss to his cheek.] Happy birthday.

This cake is free of both coconut and nuts. I had a crewmember purchase it on the Citadel, if you are wondering.
Hmm, I dunno. Do I really wanna be a guinea pig? I mean, I gotta think about the pros and cons… [A brief contemplative look.] Okay, I thought about it. I think I’m willing to maybe help you out a little bit. [He snickered and leaned over to kiss her again.]
[She met him halfway, holding the kiss for a brief moment, then abruptly pulled back when something on the vid screen caught her attention.]
[He raised his brows in a pleased expression at the kiss, but when she pulled back he gave a casual shrug.] I dunno, EDI. If you think that was sufficient, I don’t think you’ve been studying humans enough. Good try, though.
There is only so much I can learn from watching vids and studying behavior from afar. To further my studies, I would require a partner willing to teach me.
…Thanks. It’s…good to hear, I guess. Without getting all cheesy on you. [A slight chuckle.] I guess ‘uncertainty without any valid reason’ is sort of a human thing. It’s weird, too, ‘cause I’m always so damn sure of myself. [‘At least, I try to be,’ he thought to himself, but he didn’t vocalize this.] Anyway. I didn’t mean to get all serious on you. Sometimes I just sorta—…you can stop me from rambling at any time, y’know.
[A small smile played on her lips before she turned to him, then leaned in close and pressed her mouth to his. She lingered for a few moments, adding pressure when she felt appropriate, then drew away.] Was that sufficient enough to cease your rambling, Jeff?
Sweet. [He rubbed her side a bit, focusing back on the vid screen. The movie was about halfway through, though Jeff was a little disinterested. Like most vids he owned pirated, he’d seen it a million times. He glanced over at the AI briefly before returning his attention to the screen.] Are you okay with…us? [A small moment of contemplation before he continued.] What I mean to say is… I’m not the most conventional boyfriend. Actually, I make a pretty shitty example.
Us? [She paused to let him continue, head tipping to the side ever so slightly as she processed what he was telling her.] If I minded, I would not have agreed to this relationship in the first place. I weighed the pros and cons before I agreed, and the pros outnumbered the cons by a significant margin--so I am very 'okay with us'.
[He looked at her a moment, then decidedly changed his inquiry.] You wanna marathon it up tonight?
[Not detecting his change of heart, she merely nodded.] I would be fine with that.
[Casually slings an arm around her, watching the vid.] Hey, EDI. I’ve got a question.
[Eyes briefly flick to his.] Yes, Jeff?
