Wayyyy back during polytrix week, I had this whole comic planned out. It was going to be a high school au with established Rumira being foreign exchange students at Zoey's high school in Cali. The wips have been sitting on my computer for months and I doubt I'll ever finish it so I'll post what I have lol

"We've used up all their numbers already," Mira groans miserably.

"What about all the 2Me's? The instrumental? Does that count?"

Jinu grimaces. "Used it so Mira could go outside and fling rocks into the parking lot."

Zoey rounds on her. "That's where you went? I thought you were like, puking."

if rumira were together in canon how do you think they’d tell zoey?

Okay why am I laughing at Zoey and Rumi having a week long prank war and Zoey thinks she’ll win by throwing cold water over Rumi at like 3am. Except when she does throw it, behind Rumi’s screams are someone else’s and Mira shoots up from under the blankets.

Her hair is a mess, she has the biggest, loosest shirt on, and is now soaked. Ever so quietly, she whispers “you’re dead,” and Zoey doesn’t even have time to comprehend that they were in bed together because she’s now running for her life

Mira and Zoey start dating sometime before the Idol Awards. And at first they keep it a secret from Rumi cause it's clear she's going through something and they don't want to add to whatever stress shes under. But unfortunately, Rumi catches them in a too compromising position to be brushed off with a little white lie.

When they tell her, Rumi puts on her best face and pretends she doesn't feel the pang in her heart. She really is genuinely happy for them, but this news only makes her feel further isolated from them. It was bad enough when she was hiding her own secret, but now that she's privy to theirs she longs even more for the day she can come clean with hers.

She tries her best not to let it bother her, but as Zoey and Mira are more open with their affection, Rumi only feels herself growing more agitated. She's jealous of how open they get to be, meanwhile she's terrified of getting too close and them discovering her patterns.

Mira notices it first and when she mentions it to Zoey, they plan to test the theory by engaging in a particularly sloppy kiss at the dinner table. To which Rumi struggles to hide an eye roll. They don't comment on it, and if they didn't know any better they'd think Rumi was mad, but they get the feeling she's probably just feeling a little like a third wheel.

So they try to include her in things, to show her that this doesn't have to change their dynamic as the three of them. BUT that only seems to make things weirder. So instead they hold back on the pda around Rumi and that helps. It also leads Zoey and Mira to have a discussion on their mutual feelings for Rumi. This is when they decide to break up. Because they both admit they love Rumi too and it just doesn't feel right to keep this up without her involved. Especially even if she doesn't reciprocate but she continues to react the way she has anytime Zoey and Mira are together. They don't like the strain it's putting on them as a group, as friends first and foremost.

They don't tell Rumi about the breakup right away, cause it's a little hard to explain without coming out with the truth. But when an especially hard night has Mira sulking in her room crying, Rumi goes to comfort her and Mira is forced to admit it. She's vague on the details, but Rumi can tell Mira still loves Zoey. She doesn't understand what could be keeping them apart.

She goes to Zoey later and tries to find out from her why they broke up. She straight up asks but Zoey tries her best to avoid answering. Rumi gets fed up with the run around, "she clearly still loves you Zoey. And I think you feel the same. So what's holding you back?"

Zoey merely thinks the word "you" and it's enough for Rumi to catch on, but not in the way Zoey actually thinks. But rather the exact opposite. Rumi interprets it to be that they broke up cause they think Rumi doesn't approve. Rumi instantly feels awful. Like her sour attitude has broken her friends love. She feels ashamed. When she tries to apologize, Zoey starts laughing at her. She drags Rumi to Mira's room and asks her to repeat her speech, and a confused Rumi obliges. Mira also starts laughing.

"What am I missing here?" Rumi asks feeling embarrassed, though happy to see Mira feeling better and with Zoey on her side.

"Rumi, we didn't break up because of you..."

Of course not, how could I have centered myself in their narrative. Rumi thinks to herself feeling even more ashamed.

"We broke up for you."

Rumi doesn't understand how that's any different, until they further explain the truth. And suddenly her reactions, the feelings, everything she's been internalizing since they told her they were dating starts to make sense. She was jealous, her heart did ache, she did feel left out, because she wanted to be part of what they had too.

"Oh..."

After the Idol Awards, Mira catches Rumi sleeping on the couch one morning. It's highly unusual for the super early riser. Rumi plays it off by saying she came out for a snack, ate at the couch and fell asleep before she could return to her room. Believable enough however, Mira proceeds to catch Rumi 3 more times in the span of a week and a half. On the 4th time, it's in the middle of the night.

When she sits on the couch, Rumi wakes up and is caught dead to rights. There's no wiggling out of a true explanation now. Mira asks her "why are you really sleeping on the couch?" Cause she's noticed the lack of any food/wrappers on the coffee table each time she tries to use the midnight craving excuse.

Rumi admits that shes been having trouble sleeping since the awards. They may have all talked and made up, but it hasnt fixed everything. There're still some residual tension between them even if they all try to ignore it. The only thing that seems to help Rumi sleep is when she's closer to her girls. Cause at least out here she can hear Zoey softly snore, or when Mira gets up to go to the bathroom. It reminds her that they're here and they're safe. That they didn't actually leave her, and Rumi didn't lose them due to her secrecy.

Mira is upset by this cause Rumi could just ask to sleep in either of their rooms, but she knows Rumi is still not great at accepting/asking for the care she so desperately wants.

Mira gets up off the couch and takes Rumi's hands to pull her up "come on" she threads their fingers together and drags Rumi to her own room. When in bed, Mira is the big spoon and holds Rumi close. They dont talk and quickly fall asleep.

The next day the three of them are on the couch watching TV and when Mira decides to call it a night she gets up, "I'm going to bed, Rumi you coming?" She casually tosses over her shoulder as she already starts toward her room. It takes a beat for Rumi to get up too, and then Mira calls out from the hallway "Zoey you too!"

Zoey bounces up off the couch, excited about their apparent sleepover. The three get into bed, Rumi in the middle. They start to cuddle and eventually Rumi starts to cry. Zoey notices first and is instantly worried. "Rumi what's wrong?"

Rumi takes a while to express that she's just overwhelmed. The tears are more happy than sad (though still from a pain within her) she tells Zoey about how shes had trouble sleeping and Zoey cuts her off with an open invitation to her bed whenever Rumi needs. Mira echoes the invitation and Rumi buries herself further into the comfort of her girls. (She never sleeps alone on the couch again.)
