I have spent almost my entire life taking the brunt of people's cruelty and fear. I grew up bullied because I was "weird". In grade school kids would regularly jump me, beat me up, call me things like f@ggot and insist I was different than they were for a million reasons. I never had many friends and the ones I did would eventually cave to the pressure of my peers and join in on the beatings or the name-calling. I was a similar age to the kids in Columbine and I was in the same state. I wore dark clothes and fit the description of what the media had dubbed "the trenchcoat mafia" so I began getting stopped by police walking to and from school and the park. Everywhere I went I faced scrutiny about where I was going what I was doing and who I hung out with. No care that I was just a kid on my way to school they were convinced I'd be the next and they would be heros for stopping me from commiting the next atrocity. Lately I wake up and see my entire existence is being called into debate, laws are being passed with vague language, news cycles constantly looping stories about how people like me are "grooming" children and waiting in restrooms like creeps. I just want to exist. I have always just wanted to exist yet every single time I have woken up and faced another day there is always someone yelling about my right to exist and debating and emboldening the fear that everything I am is "wrong". I knew certain choices I've made in life would make the road ahead harder, would make me stand out and invite unwanted attention what I didn't know is that giving in to that nagging voice that's been in my head forever would invite a damn near global discussion about my right to just exist. I am Transgender. This is not something that can be changed. It's not wrong, or unnatural, or even a new thing in the grand history of the world This isn't something that should be on the news or debated in capital buildings or made laws against. Yet here we are. Facing the same hatred that has plagued me for my entire life. Everytime I leave my house I panic and wonder if it will be the last time. I struggle with anxiety and panic attacks. I personally think this is one of the coolest pieces I've made so far. The body is a custom layer color of experimental green under a striking yellow and the cap is a gorgeous blue opal color that glows bright pink under black light. It definitely needs a home. Igor is a stink bean and because of that Igor gets baths fairly regularly. This past year has been more difficult in more ways than I can explain. We've been so desperate trying to make what we can and throw it into keeping our home we've had to cut out and sacrifice a bunch of things. High on that list was our favorite takeouts. Combine that with living in an area where food options that aren't fast food are severely limited it left us wanting some comforts of good food. One of my goals coming into this new year was to flex some muscles and learn some new recipes. Of course I had to start with our favorite takeouts. I made panang curry from scratch the other day and tonight I made Thai style pork noodle bowls. The sense of achievement from making these two has overwhelmed me a few times as there were a lot of new ingredients and styles and flavors but we've definitely scratched some itches for our bellies.
