Russian Skies Still Protected, Roster Chat

Okay, so we have ‘Gief. He’s…Gief. I wonder how they’ll be handling his 360 motions in this? Also, notice the lack of green hand. We’ll have to see how this plays out. He gets an armor move(that allows health regen, at that), that has the potential to throw things off-that could really mess up some momentum depending how it plays out. I expect him to be big, slow, very few combos, and a lot of old-school wrasslin’. Will probably need those old-school footsie skills, if I had to take a gander. If he’s not 360 I’m going to be quite shocked.
Also, FGC, better hope Sagat is in, else Snake Eyez is just going to be a terror. ;)
That leaves us to one last slot though, and I’m really wondering if, during even the releases, their minds actually changed on the roster for one reason or another. We don’t know, though. There was that leaked list we discussed last time which came out(I’ll repost again for ease):
-R. Mika
-Zangief
-Sim
-Juri
-Karin
-Ken
-Urien
-Alex
-Laura
-Rashid
-Zen
-New Boss
The Current Roster as stated:
2 unannounced new(I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s ‘Laura’ and ‘Zen’
1 classic(Dhalsim maybe?)
Now i made a mistake in my post a bit back; Cammy was revealed a bit later. The first two were Ryu and Chunners, way way back when the game was revealed. Nash was the 3rd, and Bison the 4th. Birdie and Cammy were announced together practically.
So assuming it was Ryu/Chun/Nash/Bison…we can see where the list discrepancies are in. Cammy, Vega, and Birdie were NOT on the leaked list(despite Cammy and Birdie being quite early reveals.) Now we’re at the point where at least one of the SF3 folks aren’t making it, and I’m willing to be both aren’t.
Now some say that they shouldn’t be surprised there are no 3 characters…but what is considered a ‘classic’? Remember-SF3 is old now. 1997. That’s almost 20 years. IMO? that is now in classic territory. SFIV? Nope, that’s new, and that goes doubly for characters that came out later. Even the original 2008 version isn’t in classic territory yet, and IMO(we all might have different metrics), SFIV won’t qualify for ‘classic territory for like another ten years. (Which would put it about as old as SF3 is now.)
Okay, so that being said, it’s becoming apparent they might mean older So will the last character BE a single SF3 character, or when they say ‘classic’, do they mean SF2 or maybe SFA(about 20 years old?) Are characters like Guy or Sodom perhaps game still? Or do you reckon Dhalsim is in?
If I HAD to bet money at this point? While I want Alex hard, I have sort of reserved myself to getting him as DLC. I DO think Ono is going to put him in. He knows how many people want him, have wanted him all through IV and how upset fans will be if he gets fucked over AGAIN for a spot. But, that being said, I think it’s going to be Dhalsim or E. Honda for the last spot. I think while I’d love to see Sodom, he might make it as DLC or something as well. (To be honest, I see the entire cast being big, I’ve mentioned this, when all is said and done.)
I sort of wonder though what went on behind the scenes. Surveys? Did they have second thoughts? Perhaps after they saw how the roster was shaping up did they decide to back-burner the SF3 idea(if it was legit? And…to be honest? I think there’s a good chance it was legit. This tweet here was interesting:

Keep in mind-Combofiend himself retweeted this. So I sort of wonder here if we MIGHT still see that one lonely spot to an SF3 character. Could Alex fit in with the roster as is? We already have three heavies. Necalli, Birdie, and now Zangief-three heavies in a 16 person roster is SORT Of a lot. Alex would make the roster ¼ heavies. That’s a lot of heavies when you have such a small roster. (It’s weird, IMO-if you had like, 40 characters, and 10 heavies, that’s ¼, but it would be different-that’s still 30 non heavies, but with 12 non-heavies, that feels like a bit less. They MIGHT do it! But I wouldn’t count on it. In fact, thinking about this angle-I sort of wonder if he was on the original list, but then Vega or someone took his spot because they thought that ¼ heavy balance would have been too much.
Urien is Illuminati, he COULD be in too. But, again, I think maybe somewhere a decision was made to go all ‘real old.’ Like straight-up old guard, with a couple of others(Karin and Mika are old-er.) Alpha 1 at this point is pretty old school. Hell, Birdie was in SF1. I sort of wonder, if this is the case, what did this? What I said above-maybe they saw how the roster was shaping up and decided to swap gears since it ‘felt right.’ I mean it’s easy to see where the lone SFIV character wouldn’t make sense. Again my strong anti-Juri biases aside, it just didn’t feel…accurate. Like it was a guess rather than a rumor. (Given the did the classic announcement, I was right.)
But yeah, the lack of SF3 baffles me a bit, and I’m starting to wonder if this starting roster isn’t as strong as it could have been if it had those two SF3 entrants, Alex and Urien.
I’d have maybe replaced out Vega for one. Look-I like Vega, I do! And in fact I’d make DAMN sure he was in VERY early DLC. But what I’d have done is release an ‘Ex Shadoloo DLC’ for the first bunch-and that would have included Vega, Balrog, and Sagat. Basically after whatever amount of time they wanted to wait for the first DLC, I’d have put them into the first pack. That, IMO, could have worked out to the benefit-we’d have fit in two SF3 folks as planned, still have a big bulk of classics, some not-seen-in awhile, and the four new.
Dhalsim, Blanka and Honda could fit in with an ‘Original World Warrior’ DLC set. Come to think of it, if Sim is indeed in this setup, that would leave Honda and Blanka out(they could still fit in something like that.)
Well, let’s see who gets in-again, I’m putting my money on one of the last 3 of the World Warrior crew, and more likely Sim or Blanka(Honda falls under I think that same ‘heavy’ rule as Alex would.)
I kind of notice, while SFV’s fanbase is generally behaving, there is some grumpiness at the lack of SF3 characters. IV generally gets understood I think but SF3 I feel, particularly certain entrants, have been sort of sat on for awhile, and with silence behind them, no one really knows why.
Hey, if it IS Alex, though, damn. XD
Guess we’ll see what happens! I wonder when we’ll get the final classic announcement. I’d be curious to know what went into some of the SF3 changes. Again, 4 is no mystery IMO but the SF3 change is.
