Karl Lagerfeld, a prominent fashion designer and creative director, passed away on February 19, 2019. He was known for his contributions to the fashion industry, having served as creative director for Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous brand. However, Lagerfeld was also known for his controversial statements and opinions.
Lagerfeld was known for his unfiltered comments and often received backlash for them. In 2012, he made controversial remarks about British singer Adele, saying that she was "a little too fat." He also made derogatory comments about the #MeToo movement, claiming that models who complain about being touched inappropriately by photographers should "join a nunnery."
Despite his controversial statements, Lagerfeld remained a highly respected figure in the fashion industry. He was known for his iconic personal style, which included a signature white ponytail and black sunglasses. Lagerfeld's death in 2019 was met with an outpouring of grief from fashion industry insiders and fans alike, who recognized his significant contributions to the world of fashion hence the controversial theme in this year’s met gala. While I never had the privilege of knowing Karl Lagerfeld personally, it's undeniable that he was a tremendously talented designer. Although I cannot speak for his personal morals, I hope that he has found peace in the next chapter of his journey.
