So the focus characters of the au are mostly Will, Eulalie, Ada, and Montresor . In that order probably lmao I’m not super sure how to characterize Montresor in a modern au ? Religious trauma and internalized homophobia duh but idk that he’d cope those things the same way I did so I’ll have to think more about that later
SO. Essentially the group channel rivalry all started with a bar fight. The misfits were already an established group channel and the acolytes formed in spite of them. Annabel and Prospero took it very seriously because the fight got put on their permanent records or smth. Lenore and Duke dgaf about that and just flirt with those two relentlessly (Annabel’s big sapphic heart is secretly charmed. Everything goes over Prospero’s head)
Morella was not included in the bar fight btw she’s just Pluto’s childhood friend along for the ride
Will is closeted because he comes from a conservative family and lives at home, the first person he actually comes out to is Eulalie. They have a secret side channel where they play horror games (mostly fnaf and phasmophobia) together !
They start doing ghost hunting videos after the misfits don’t want to go back to the same abandoned sanatorium with Eulalie for the fourth time ☺️ she invited Pluto and Duke to do it on the side with her but Pluto is skittish about the paranormal and Duke “doesn’t want him to feel left out.”
It makes Duke nervous too but he will never admit to it. This is also why he rejected her original invitation to horror gaming channel despite mentioning he played them from time to time
How does WILL get into horror games you ask? Remember the aforementioned dating sims? Ddlc and gacha memories. I don’t think anyone actually played gacha memories besides me but essentially in one of the routes there’s like body horror with the kitsune chick. The game also has like whole fucking boss fights that are weirdly difficult but ANYWAY ! His favorite route on that game is the mlm secret side story.
he also played through class of 09 with Ada and that was her lesbian awakening. So back to the point,
idk Will and Eulalie probably went to go see the fnaf movie in theaters or smth and ran into each other and got to talking and it just stemmed from there . The horror dating sims just lured Will into the horror genre
eventually the misfits start homophobic allegations about the acolytes . Prbably because Montresor is there but anyway the acolytes end up outing Will as gay in their next video which. Isn’t really intentional bc everyone already thought he was out but they also did not warn him
so ! He gets kicked out by his parents and couchsurfs on his woker siblings couches and doesn’t mention the newfound homelessness because he doesn’t want his friends to feel bad about it
he ends up being roommates with Eulalie at some point but I’m uncertain of the exact circumstances
Side plots ! I guess idk but I’ll get into the interpersonal relationships more here
Will and Ada are like siblings to each other and are pretty close friends ! Ada forces him to play dress up games with her and he reluctantly accepts and then gets really into the ingame economy
They share music with each other from time to time and have a shared sad girl playlist that’s just full of mitski and radiohead. I WILL GET INTO EVERYONES (mostly. I couldn’t figure out some characters) MUSIC TASTES AT RHE END I PROMISE
I will say for now though that Will is big into indie rock and def dresses in like a midwest emo style ?
Ada was briefly comphet with Monty and now lightheartedly judges Will for his massive crush on the guy
Will goes to a lot of local concerts and she’s gone to a few with him when someone she likes is performing. Ada hits the lesbian bar after her gay awakening and Will invites Montresor to every concert but he never accepts
At the lesbian bar. Ada meets Berenice. They hit it off and secretly date each other ! Once they find out about Will and Eulalie’s secret friendship through their ghost channel, the four of them start having movie nights and hanging out together 🫶
they just play board games and take random quizzes together and give Will love advice . One night they all take an online autism test and Eulalie and Will both score significantly higher. It is never mentioned again. These four get into shenanigans with each other in the backgrounds of the videos of their main channels
Now, on the Montresor side of things! He’d probably work and perform at the local rodeo, and goes to the same church as Morella ! Montresor wasn’t raised catholic but attends the church for the familiarity of the religious environment if that makes sense ?
He doesn’t like going but church every sunday was ingrained into him growing up and he doesn’t like the way he feels if he just stays home. Morella always talks to him about like the sermons or whatever catholics have every time their groups run into each other and he HATES IT.
No he never considered the possibility of Will being gay. Yes, Will kissed him once when they were all drunk af for a video. Montresor is the only one who remembers this. He thinks nothing of it until the acolytes out Will and he finds out he’s gay.
so ever since he found that out, he’s been thinking about the kiss! After a lot of inner turmoil, paying way more attention to Will, and repeatedly listening to the playlist that Will made for him that he had refused to touch, Montresor accepted the next concert invitation.
YES they are getting ready for the concert together and YES Will is styling Montresor in something more alternative and YES. Will is painting his nails black and he miiiight wear a bit of eyeliner as a treat. He offers to paint Monty’s nails but bro just started getting over his internalized homophobia a month ago give him a minute
Will is having a great time! Montresor is having an okay time but he likes to see Will enjoying himself. He ends up picking up Will so he can see the performance better and it is OVER for him. Looks up at his boyfriend I mean best friend having the time of his life and Montresor realizes that he is very very gay right then and there

Ada - Katy Perry (at first), Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo before her lesbian awakening. Queerest song on her playlist is I Kissed a Girl. From sharing music with Will she gets CARR and Kid Sistr, then finds Mitski, beabadoobee, Hey Violet, and maybe Paramore(?) on her own. Berenice introduces her to banshee :)
Montresor - obviously Kesha. Probably some country music in there, mostly the trucks beer tiny bikinis songs at first for the sake of comphet and then he gets into the “oops I killed my husband” side later and finds that he prefers that. Could maybe see him liking MARINA ? Could pick up Paramore from Ada, and I could see him picking up The Smiths and baby bugs from Will.
side note involving the playlist Will made for Montresor. He just picked songs that reminded him of Monty (probably did the same for everyone in the group. Yes Montresor’s playlist got way more songs) and baby bugs obviously goes in there #religioustrauma. He will take the fact that he listens to them to his grave.
Annabel - Chappell Roan? Girl in red? Lana Del Rey? Idk lesbian yearning artists probably I haven’t listened to any of those. Ada might listen to ldr actually fu ck . I’ll give her Gigi Perez for sure though
Prospero - Måneskin but the ONLY songs by them he’ll add to the group playlist are the ones fully in Italian so nobody else knows the lyrics.

I did not get much into their content but it’s all really stupid stuff like “doing the cinnamon challenge” or “calling talking tom at 3 am” or “baking a cake but we’re blind, deaf, mute, hands tied, and fixing a car” or “hide and seek at costco (HIGH STAKES)” you get the point
Annabel and Prospero’s video suggestions are all like community service stuff like washing cars and doing a bake sale or smth. Then the misfits pull up to the carwash and pelt them all with water balloons and they wage war
Pluto and Duke are roommates because Pluto’s dad is in rehab or whatever idc about him. Montresor and Will egged their house so they got Monty’s address from Morella and send him hate mail for fun

I DO !!!!! I have literally so many aus and fics for them but I think my faves would be my outlaw Will au (kinda the same concept as Bound by Death but if the roles were reversed and Will has a gun) I haven’t written much about it but I like the reckless unhinged Will barely contained by a very confused Montresor !
My other favorite would probably have to be my modern au for them because it’s just really stupid lmao . misfits and acolytes have rival bunchoffriends type youtube channels and get into a lot of chaos but I haven’t put too much into this au yet so I’ll just list the concepts I have !

I also LOVE the evil/actor Will au/theory so much and tried my hand at writing it, but I only really did one chapter before I dropped it bc I didn’t like the plot or characterization. If I ever end up getting any other ideas I’d def want to revisit writing it bc it’s such a cool au
Kinda obsessed with my nurse Will au but I haven’t put too much thought into it so it just sits in the back of my mind. Haunting me. Someday I’ll give it the attention it deserves
