I really recommend watching this episode on the Last Week Tonight where they highlight the apartheid state in West Bank and condemn Israel for its apartheid against Palestinians.

lol. i got blocked. so much for getting a source for the claim that youtube is blocking Last Week Tonight's Palestine episode in a different way to how they're blocking all their other content because of licensing rights.

effervescentdragon, all i asked was sources for your vague claims. you were unable to provide them and got very mad. were you able to provide sources for your claims, I'd listen to them.

i'm not defending capitalism when i say that capitalism causes people not to be able to watch the same content online internationally.

and the fact that last week tonight provides episodes for free on youtube in regions they own the rights to the show, is actually an anti-capitalistic move. they're not getting money for it. they're giving it for free in countries where they're able to do so. this is a good thing. it's not an anti-palestine conspiracy.

This struck me as odd but also unsurprising, because John Oliver talks, amongst other things, about how Israeli settlements in Palestine are illegal. So I started investigating, asking my friends all around the world if they can see the video. Austria was a no, USA was a no, UK was a no, UAE was a no, India was a no. Then my friend with access to VPN got involved, and she checked the world for me. She then found a site that lets you tell where a video is blocked. Here is a map of all the countries where the video is blocked:

Now, some of these countries have YT blocked completely, but I really want you to ask yourselves why this video is blocked. Why is it blocked in countries where, as another friend has said, John Oliver is known and watched and trusted. I want you to think about that for a bit, and then I want you to wonder what it is that he says in this video that warrants it being unavailable for half of the world, and which half of the world that is. Why won't they let a white British man speak to the audience of the "western" world. What is it that he has to say? Then maybe watch it, and come to your own conclusions. Some critical thinking won't go amiss here.

Youtube is many festering things, but they are very open with their error messages. This video is "blocked" in the listed countries because the uploader requested it. Why? Because they don't want lawsuits generated from violating existing licencing agreements in those countries relating to the John Oliver show.

This isn't a conspiracy. It's fucking capitalism.

Ergo, for countries and territories where they don't have exclusive rights to the show, they're not able to provide that access.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is only free on youtube in certain countries. The map in your post shows in red the countries where HBO owns the streaming rights. So it's not a conspiracy against Palestine, it's about streaming rights.

The show is free on YouTube in countries where no one owns the streaming rights (shown in your map as grey), with plans to upload the entire archive. This includes all of Latin America, a lot of Asia (except China, India and most Arab countries), all of Eastern Europe, plus France, Finland, Denmark and Sweden.

In countries where HBO Max owns the streaming rights, they don't post the full episodes, and they wait until Thursday to post segments after the show has aired.

I'd add this into your post since it is currently misinforming people with a conspiracy theory that's false, which in my opinion derails from the crucial journalism the show was trying to spread about the apartheid Israel is committing in Palestine.

It's the exact same map as for the Palestine episode, because they are not restricting particular videos due to their content. They are restricting all of their content because of streaming rights.
