howâs that for bi
âit matters because making a woman of colorâs story revolve around a white man, instead of letting her stand for herself, is racist.â ok but.... like this IS the character, they just HAPPENED to pick a black actress to play her, itâs not like they were saying âhey lets find a way to write a black woman into the scriptâ, no she just happened to be the best actress for the job. So are you saying BECAUSE of the story line they should have hired a WHITE actress? Cuz thatâs seems even MORE racist!
frankly itâd still be bad if they had any woman whose backstory revolves around a man... they maybe, perhaps, shouldâve just written a better storyline
the fact sheâs a woc just happens to make it kinda racist, too
(again this is all speculative until friday 9/8c anyway? i actually trust thex not to fuck it up lmao even if sheâs marcusâ ex gf or something itâll probably be written well)
bi culture: when you and your husband would sleep with the same man
(jessica voice) please tell me he didnât want to meet up to tell me about his gay crisis
@froggy-the-gremlin: What difference does skin color make? Mouse can't be Marcus's ex because he's white? This makes ZERO sense. I would hope consenting adults can have relationships with whoever they please, and this goes for TV characters, too.
it matters because making a woman of colorâs story revolve around a white man, instead of letting her stand for herself, is racist. thereâs a way they can do it right, but frankly, i donât trust anyone to.Â
television characters are not real people, and its up to tv writers to responsibly portray people in ways that arenât cliched and donât make poc play second fiddle to white folk.Â
get outta my house! bye!
icb this is the exact inverse of when everyone kept trying to say simon from in the flesh was bisexual even when the showrunner was like âno, heâs gay. heâs a gay man. heâs a homosexualâ. everything is the same and nothing ever changes
syrenhug: gay/bi/pan people can still hc him as gay though, as sometimes we have different experiences with learning about ourselves but we obviously shouldn't erase his identity
what lmfao no they canât thatâs ridiculous??? you canât interchange ppls sexualities for your headcanons
are you mad m8
Ok but weâve only ever witnessed Marcus being interested in men, heâs never showed any response to women that way, so itâs pretty safe to assume, at this point, that heâs gay and not bi. I donât think he likes women at all tbh
the thing is like ⊠i literally agree with u, to a point.
i really feel that the show wrote marcus as a gay man. explicitly wrote him as a gay man, in fact, and i have a deep and very specific attachment to marcus as a 53 year old gay catholic man. i think they wrote him as gay and have since, for whatever reason, changed their minds.
and i have deeply mixed feelings about the fact that mouse might be marcusâ ex. itâs fishy as fuck to introduce a woman of colour and then intrinsically tie her history to the white male lead like that.
iâm not thrilled about the way this has been done! at all! i think the cast & crew absolutely shouldâve done better than this, and that essentially retconning him to be bisexual instead of gay is not the right way to approach everything. being gay/bi isnât actually interchangeable! they come with separate, unique experiences.
thereâs endless ways to be frustrated without being a biphobic troglobite.
at the end of the day, ben daniels has said marcus isnât gay. ben is also on record from an interview a year ago that he wanted to play marcus as bisexual. jeremy slater has at this point explicitly said that marcus is bisexual. so maybe we express our disappointments in the way itâs been handled like grown ups, instead of like assholes?
My bi ass: "ooh I should get into the fandom for this new show I love!......oh...oh wait... no... not like that .... Ok nvm... alright I'll just watch the show then..."
this is a genuinely upsetting message to get? iâm so sorry.
marcusâ representation as a bisexual man is not perfect and i know why people are taking issue with it. but itâs slid nothing into rampant biphobia where people are making ugly gifset series to âproveâ that marcus is gay. marcus is just as good a character either way, and the lgbt community is not inherently losing anything either way, and i really canât believe itâs come to this
iâm so sorry this has been your experience
The unholy trinity: ppl who hate peter/marcus just because he's not Tomas; biphobes complaining about Marcus being bi; and homophobes complaining about Marcus not being straight
This is not real. Youâre not real. Oh, youâre gonna hurt my feelings.
whilst youâre discoursing about marcusâ sexuality can some of you try a little harder not to be disgustingly biphobic
like maybe do the bare minimum here
hey everyone marcus is english n says Mum not mom
lmao i love how hetero relationships in shows can have likeâŠ.zero build up between characters outside of likeâŠ.2 lines of shitty dialogue/eye-contact and they could be fucking left right and center and nobody will bat an eye but when two gay people meet, when they show blatant interest in one another, and on top of that attempt some level of emotional intimacyâŠitâs not likeâŠ.deep enough? for one kiss????
THEY MET AND THEY WANTED TO SNOG END OF DISCUSSION, CHRISTÂ
marcus was established as a gay man in season one i genuinely donât know why people think his sexuality needs more âhandlingâ than that?Â
i donât know about you but iâm pretty tired of tv shows that have to pad out all the bits around any gay character who shows up. being gay isnât marcusâ biggest problem, itâs not a problem at ALL for him, and marcus/peter is being treated tonally exactly the same as thousands of straight ships have been over time.
he kissed the man heâs attracted to. thatâs all. and straight characters have been having this exact plotline - i mean, this exact one, this âtaste of life outside The Job with someone who gets themâ plotline - for years. iâm pretty sure thatâs the storyline of literally every relationship that the winchesters in supernatural have had (not that spn is the gold standard for writing). itâs incredibly gratifying that thex is treating marcusâ romantic experiences as just romantic experiences.
i donât know about yall, but iâve been waiting literally years for tv to start treating gay relationships the same as straight ones.
