Never thought was one of my first large posts would be this but…
I feel for all engenes at this time because yes this announcement came completely out of the blue. It shocked a lot of people and fans are trying to cope however they can. bBut at the same time it is starting to turn into a bit of a delulu fest. I get that people are using theories as a way to cope from the news, but a lot of the rumours spreading right now are honestly doing more harm than good for both enhypen and Heeseung.
Yes the announcement was very sudden and the letters do feel a bit “off.” And fans are also under the notion that enhypen would never separate from each other. That could be true, but at the same time there is no concrete evidence for a lot of the theories people are building right now.
Coming from a PR background, the fact that heeseung is still in Belift but not in Enhypen suggests that something pretty big must have happened behind the scenes. Situations like this usually involve contracts, negotiations, or internal issues that the public will never know about. Unfortunately we will probably never get the full story.
I also honestly believe that belift may have always had the intention of making heeseung a soloist eventually. He is enhypen’s ace after all. And we also have to remember that enhypen are currently around the career stage where contract renewal discussions usually start happening. Maybe heeseung wanted to renew and the others didn’t. Maybe the opposite happened. maybe he genuinely wanted to become a soloist once his contract ended. We truly do not know, but some sort of dilemma around renewals could definitely have been happening behind the scenes.
However, the announcement does feels very abrupt. My guess is that BELIFT might have originally planned to reveal something like this later, maybe the second half of 2026 or early 2027. But something probably escalated behind the scenes and they had to make the announcement earlier so the press would not get their hands on whatever was going on first. that way they could control the narrative and save face for enhypen, heeseung, belift and hybe.
I also like to believe that the members themselves have known about this for at least a few weeks. If you look at their recent billboard Japan interview the vibes feel off. Everyone seems distant and honestly kind of devastated. They were also very quiet on weverse and socials for a few days leading up to the announcement which was unusual.
Now when it comes to things like Ni-Ki wearing Heeseung’s clothing or Jungwon doing the enhypen symbol when no staff was looking, i understand why engenes see that as symbolic and why people think it means Heeseung was wrongfully kicked out. But at the same time we genuinely do not know if moments like that are being encouraged behind the scenes. Companies sometimes lean into symbolic moments like that because it keeps people talking. It could just be genuine emotions from the members, or it could be something belift’s PR team is allowing or even encouraging. We will never really know.
And right now this situation is getting a lot of press attention, especially in South Korea. Whether people like it or not, any press is good press. Enhypen have always had a much bigger international fanbase compared to their domestic popularity in Korea. So with this situation suddenly getting so much Korean media coverage for all seven members, belift and hybe are obviously going to latch onto that exposure.
Companies care a lot about the korean market. International fans matter but domestic perception matters more to these companies. We have seen this happen before with other groups, such as the Seunghan and RIIZE situation and Gfriend. If a group is not doing well domestically or korean public opinion turns negative, companies will make drastic decisions regardless of international backlash.
Personally i do not think we will ever know the full story. Situations like this are usually kept very private for legal reasons.
One thing i will say though is that bringing this issue to the national assembly is genuinely crazy work. The last group that ended up in a situation like that was newjeans and look how messy that whole situation became. Members ended up leaving and their careers were heavily impacted. That path does not help anyone.
I completely empathize with engenes because the news caught me off guard too and i was honestly devastated. But petitions, protest trucks and posters are probably not going to solve anything. At the end of the day enhypen are a huge money source for BELIFT and HYBE and those companies will do whatever they think protects that.
Also boycotting the group is not a good idea. That would only harm the other six members and could actually make the situation worse. If anything it risks hurting the group more than helping it.
These are just my own assumptions based on how PR situations usually work. I could absolutely be wrong. But i do think it is better to approach this situation with logic instead of letting speculation spiral too far.
And for context, I’ve been a enhypen fan since 2021 and they’re honestly one of the only bg groups I listen to (I’m more of girl group listener). I just hope nobody takes this situation too far.
