Our business education last week at Metro Beauty was all about Leadership and the importance of being a team.
Owners, of any company, should not call the people who work for them staff, they should always refer to them as a team.
I believe this is especially important in a salon business because usually the owner of the salon is working a long side the team.
The Dictionary defines Staff as:
A group of persons, as employees, charged with carrying out the work of an establishment or executing some undertaking.
The Dictionary defines Team as:
A number of persons associated in some joint action.
Being a part of a staff sounds like you are doing what the ‘establishment’ wants you to do with some wiggle room for suggestion.
NOT creative, NOT passionate, NOT inspiring.
Being a part of a team sounds like there is more unity, simply because of the word joint. Joint action leads to inspiration, passion and creativity.
Who does not want to be a part of that?
A team can grow together, a team can set goals and help each other achieve them, a team will achieve so much more than a staff and they can achieve more than an individual can as well.
Long ago a lot of salons were not united, our mentality was every hairstylist for themselves. We were competitive, we were afraid and did not want younger stylist to come in and steal our clients. Maybe these hair stylists still exist? I truly hope not, but I suspect they do.
Let me ask you, how’s that working for you? Are you happy?
I feel blessed to belong to a team. I belong to a team of professionals that believe in each other, that celebrate new stylists in the industry and help lift those stylists up. We pass on our knowledge to them in the hopes they will be better than we are and we get the opportunity to learn from them as well!
I belong to a team with hashtags like #euforastrong and #euforaforward.
I have been a hairstylist for over seventeen years now and I wish I found Eufora a lot sooner than I did. The Co-founder, Don Bewley, was a hairstylist himself and he wanted to change the industry. I can say for absolute certain he did and continues to, even after his passing. I know he would be proud that the Eufora nation remained strong and is a team. The biggest team I have ever known.
I belong to the creative, I belong to the passionate and we have the privilege of inspiring the next generation of hair stylists to be more than we could ever be.
I have also been blessed to be a part of the Essense Salon team for FIFTEEN years today! I know I would not be the stylistI am today if it was not for my salon owner and team-mate, Nikki. She believed we could be a team, she believed we could become a
great salon and she believed in me. There is nothing that our team cannot accomplish, together we will continue to serve London with our knowledge and dedication and we love every minute of it. We are a great team, we love our profession.
So, I ask you one last question,
Are you on a team?
Creative. Passionate. Inspired.
There is no ‘I’ in TEAM Our business education last week at Metro Beauty was all about Leadership and the importance of being a team.
