RHAPSODY of the Seas🌏
My first contract was scary, exciting and confused 😱 What to do, how to pack, where I go, who's with me etc. But I will tell you I enjoy everything I did on my first contract and it heals me so much.
So packing was a little bit tricky. Hindi naman bago sakin 'to kasi bago ko mag international galing ako sa Cebu then Surigao which is part of my work before sa roro passenger vessel dito sa Phiippines. But this time, international wala nang snaku na chitchirya dun 😁😁😁😁 I mean all your comfort food gone then pinaka hassle ko pa sa life I had skin allergy medyo maselan ako sa mga bagay bagay like
📌MODESS dun lang ako hindi nangangati well I tried to find like that in US pero iba pa din. Meron pa kong incident lahat ng napkin sa grocery store super malalaki 👀 So I give space for MODESS 😁
📌Yes salonpas is a must 😁😁😁😁
Then yung Mom ko mananahi so she made ...
📌travel cubes bags.
Until now ginagamit ko siya. Well I am a fan of cubes bags kasi once I pull out one cube bag I got everything I need like obe cubes for all my t-shirts then one cubes for shorts, sleep wears and cubes for underwear. So done and all pack on my cabinet in cabin. Good for our cabin na limited lang space.
📣 If you want one or set of travel cubes we got it for you 😁
Despedida everywhere 🍖♨️🔥🥩🥓🍳🛳️
My flight that time was September BER months so we decided to take my traditional Christmas photo with my dog, Mocco 🎅 🎄 🎁 ✨🐶
And the traditional last picture before leaving our home begins 😁📸
And another one 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Yes walking on that airport that time was really sad 😔
Lucky I got company, Kuya William who is new at the company also that time but long time cruising also and another man that we just met inside the plane 🛫✈️🛬
⁀જ✈︎ My first lay over Qatar
We stay for a while in Seamans lodge to wash face, change clothes and eat. It's a lounge for Seafarer that you can charge phone and eat. There's a lot of charging station with comfortable sofa chairs and tables to eat their buffet set up food. Kumain lang ako konti kasi kakain din naman ulit sa next plane namin.
Then next plane to Barbados 🛫🛫🛫🛫
Oh diba kain ulit 😁😁😁😁
Nakikita niyo na ba Barbados? Kwento ko lang, nung nalaman kong dyan ako pupunta that's the same day I just knew that one exsisting. Kamalayan ko sa mga island ng Caribbean tsaka ano ba meron dyan? Funny but that homeland of Rhianna dude. Yes that's all I know and that's my home port for 7 months. That's it.
Quick facts from Google Maps
Barbados is an eastern Caribbean island and an independent British Commonwealth nation. Bridgetown, the capital, is a cruise-ship port with colonial buildings and Nidhe Israel, a synagogue founded in 1654. Around the island are beaches, botanical gardens, the Harrison’s Cave formation, and 17th-century plantation houses like St. Nicholas Abbey. Local traditions include afternoon tea and cricket, the national sport.
We landed to Barbados peacefully and no lost luggage but no hotel for me. I'll write so separate blog on that one ✍️ So bye AHOY!

07:00 PM – 08:00 PM (if assigned) ➡ Evening standby or support duties:
Handle urgent linen requests (e.g., special events, extra towels for guests, emergency clean-ups).
Final check of linen room before closing shift.
08:00 PM onwards ➡ Free time: relax, crew activities, call home, gym (I hope next contract)
10:00 PM – Lights out / sleep.
⚠ Notes:
✅ Schedules vary — linen keepers usually work split shifts depending on ship operations. ✅ Busy times: turnaround days, special events, or when guests change frequently. ✅ You might also assist in loading/unloading laundry.
🌊 Free Time as Linen Keeper Onboard
✅ Rest & Recharge
Take a nap in my cabin usually I do it after eating lunch. Don't judge me.
Listen to music or watch downloaded shows/movies. There's a lot of movie onboard on our crew cabin. I love watching them all then they make new set of movies again after one month :)
Call or video chat with my family. We have free messages for every crew for chatting only but if you want video call you can buy any time.
✅ Socialize
Hang out with crewmates in the crew bar, mess, or recreation room. My last contract we there's a majong board in one of our cafe some of my friends teach me how to play.
Join organized crew activities (karaoke, games, sports). Last time I sign up for bumper cars with few friends.
✅ Stay Active
Use the crew gym or jogging track (if available). Next contract I do it. Hahaha!
Join group exercise (Zumba, yoga, etc. — many ships offer this).
✅ Personal Care
Do laundry, usually I do it after duty at night.
Organize your cabin, we clean every before drill because cabin inspection every drill.
Read books or study (some crew study for exams or certifications). There's a library in the cafe on my last contract. I read but I didn't finish it.
✅ Explore (on port days)
If you’re free, go ashore to explore the port city or do some shopping. That's the favorite part of my life on board. SHORELEAVE! Exploring ports will be good and fun especially shopping.
Join crew shore excursions (if allowed).
⏰ When is free time usually?
After duty hours (e.g. after 8 PM, depending on shift).
Between split shifts (e.g. after morning duties, before afternoon/evening tasks).
On quieter sea days or after turnover is complete.
⚓ Challenges at Work (Linen Keeper)
✅ Heavy workload on turnaround days
When guests disembark and new ones arrive, there’s a big demand for clean linen. It can be physically tiring and stressful, especially when time is limited.
✅ Stock shortages / missing items
Sometimes linen supplies don’t arrive on time, or you run low on certain items (like bath towels) It’s challenging to meet all requests without enough stock.
✅ Tight storage space
The linen room is usually small, and keeping it organized takes effort. With large quantities of linen, it’s hard to move around or find what you need quickly.
✅ Urgent last-minute requests
Housekeeping may suddenly need extra linen for emergencies, spills, or special events. You need to respond fast while still managing your regular tasks.
✅ Physical demands
Carrying heavy bags of soiled or clean linen, working in tight spaces, standing or walking for long hours — it can cause fatigue or back pain.
✅ Heat / laundry smell
The linen room can get hot, especially near laundry areas. The smell of soiled linen or chemicals might be unpleasant at times.
✅ Communication issues
Sometimes there’s confusion between departments (e.g. what was requested vs. what was delivered), especially if people speak different languages.
✅ Strict hygiene standards
I must ensure linen is handled properly — no cross-contamination between clean and dirty items. This adds pressure during busy times.
⚓ Coping Strategies for Linen Keeper Challenges
✅ Plan and prioritize tasks
At the start of my shift, I list urgent linen needs (e.g. cabin changeovers) so I don’t get overwhelmed. I tackle the biggest jobs first.
✅ Keep stock organized
I arrange linen so it’s easy to access — e.g. group by type (towels, sheets), label shelves, and rotate stock (I used older items first). This saves my time during busy hours.
✅ Communicate clearly
When receiving or giving linen, I confirm the quantity and type. If unsure about a request, I ask for clarification right away to avoid mistakes.
✅ Pace yourself physically
I use correct lifting techniques (bend knees, keep back straight). If loads are heavy, I ask for help or use carts/trolleys where possible.
✅ Stay hydrated and take short breaks
Even 5-minute rests help, especially on turnaround days. I drink water regularly — working near laundry or in small rooms can get hot.
✅ Prepare for emergencies
I keep a small reserve of essential linen (e.g. extra towels and linens) so I can respond fast to last-minute requests.
✅ Stay positive and flexible
Some days will be harder, but keeping a good attitude and working as a team helps. Many linen keepers find that humor and teamwork make the job easier.
✅ Care for your health off duty
Stretch, exercise lightly, and rest well during free time. A healthy body handles physical work better.
At the end of the day you will survive because you have to. It's your dream job and it's making good money so work, embrace it.

🌊 How I Got Hired on a Cruise Ship — My Journey After the Pandemic
I’ve shared before about some of my training days way back in 2022. So for those who’ve been following me, you probably know that yes — wearing a life jacket has become part of my life since I started working on a cruise ship.
One of the most common questions I get is:
“How did you get hired?”
Whenever people see my posts from different ports on social media, that’s what they want to know. So here’s my honest answer:
✨ You need to be mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially prepared.
And not just you — the people supporting you need to be prepared too. Why? Because when you’re financially drained (and trust me, it happens!), your supporters will be one of your best sources of strength.
💛 Shoutout to my sister Lani — thank you again for always being there!
🚢 Chasing My Dream After the Pandemic
In 2022, after the pandemic, I decided to go after my dream job again — working on a cruise ship.
It felt like starting over from zero. I had to renew all my documents. I did get hired by a company, but I was placed on the lineup because my documents had expired.
📌 Basic Requirements & Trainings (Philippines)
If you’re planning to work on a cruise ship too, here’s a simple checklist:
✅ Passport + Government IDs — NBI Clearance, SSS, PhilHealth, BIR/TIN, Pag-IBIG
✅ Seaman’s Book — your “other passport” as a seafarer
✅ Trainings — There are many training centers in the Philippines. Required trainings usually include:
Basic Training
Ship and Security Awareness
Safety Training
Crowd Management
✅ Vaccinations — During my application time, the COVID-19 vaccine was required. You’ll also need:
Yellow fever vaccine
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine from the Bureau of Quarantine
⏳ Tips
For all of this, you’ll need:
💸 Money — Yes, it’s an investment.
🧘♀️ Patience — Government processes will really test this.
💪 A positive mindset — Enjoy your trainings! Jump if they say jump!
After preparing all the necessary documents, it’s time to apply for a job.
For me, it’s better to complete all the requirements first before applying so you’ll be ready and look like a well-prepared, complete package.
As for companies, I’ll share three here in the Philippines where you can apply and upload all your documents.
🌊 Royal Caribbean International
One of the largest cruise companies in the world.
Their ships, like Spectrum of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas, often visit Manila, Boracay, and Cebu as part of Asian or Southeast Asian itineraries.
Known for innovative ships with attractions like skydiving simulators, surf simulators, and robotic bartenders.
🌊 Princess Cruises (part of Carnival Corporation)
Frequently calls at ports such as Manila, Puerto Princesa, and Davao.
Popular with North American, Australian, and European tourists visiting the Philippines as part of larger Asia-Pacific cruises.
Known for elegant ships and focus on premium service.
🌊 Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)
Includes Philippine destinations in Southeast Asia itineraries.
Some ships that visit: Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Spirit.
Known for freestyle cruising (no fixed dining times, flexible dress codes).
💡 Note:
➡ These are foreign cruise lines, but they often hire a large number of Filipino crew and officers.
➡ The Philippines also has smaller local cruise or expedition operators (like 2GO Travel for ferry-style cruising or Discovery Fleet for diving and adventure cruises), but they are not considered major international cruise ship companies.
Here’s a cleaned-up and polished version of your whole message:
📌 Medical, Visa, and Plane Ticket
You might be wondering why medical exams, visas, and plane tickets aren’t included in your list of requirements. Well, once you get hired, the company will take care of all of those. Yes, they do!
For the medical exam, the company has accredited hospitals here in the Philippines that handle all laboratory tests and other procedures. You just need to choose the branch closest to you, make an appointment, and show up healthy. That’s it. If any issues are found, you’ll need a second opinion from another hospital to get a “fit for duty” certification. Just a heads-up—you’ll have to pay for that yourself. That’s why I mentioned earlier that it’s important to show up healthy. By the way, medical exams are only required every two years, so take good care of yourself both onboard and during your vacation.
For the visa, your company will schedule it for you. You just need to submit the required documents, and they will email you your appointment schedule. All you have to do is show up dressed formally.
As for the plane ticket, you’re almost ready to go! The company will provide that as well. Just print your travel itinerary from your company account, bring it with you to check-in, and you’ll receive your ticket then. TIP: You can choose your seat when you check in online. Go for the window seat!
🌊My story
“How did you get hired?”
I am a college graduate with a course of Associate Hotel and Restaurant Management then after that I took vocational course from TESDA Housekeeping NC II and Food & Beverages NC II. I worked in a Korean Restaurant then after that move to milk tea shop then work as a seafarer here in Philippines, 2017 then international, 2022 after pandemic. Yep I'm seven years mermaid. Hahahahaha!
Renewing my documents was very tough. It took money, patience, and brought a lot of self-doubt. I kept wondering if I should continue or not. I was put on a line-up after passing one interview, but I had to renew my training. At that time, I was still in the middle of my training. That’s why I’m telling you — it’s better if you already have all your training and documents ready, so the employer or recruiter sees you as a complete package and ready to go. But things happened, so what could I do? I moved on and tried again with our company.
Then Royal Caribbean found me. That’s my dream company, and honestly, I didn’t expect anything at all — I just prayed. I was invited to a mass hiring event of Royal Caribbean, together with my close friend Jelli. When we arrived at the hotel where the hiring event was held, I felt like I didn’t have a chance because there were so many candidates.
I got interviewed for the job I was applying for — Public Area Attendant — and then they interviewed me for another job that suited my experience: Linen Attendant on a ferry vessel here in the Philippines. They offered me the position of Linen Keeper. They asked about my past job duties, and that was it. We were there the whole day, and I couldn’t imagine that I would actually get it.
When I got home, I received the job offer before I even fell asleep. That night, I was with my 1-year-old nephew — I was babysitting him while waiting for my chance to become a mermaid (hahaha!). I jumped for joy all by myself. I messaged my eldest sister and cried tears of happiness — smiling with my eyes, heart, and soul. And I thanked God.
After one week I think I got the letter of employment which is the confirmation that I am officially ROYAL! I will not forget that day. It was a sunny morning, I'm still on my bed and checking it. I cried first alone then jump on my bed then run to my eldest sister. And we both cried while jumping with happy heart. I GOT IT, THANKS FOR BELIEVING!
Then I started doing medical, visa then packing then go!
What a dream to chase and what a dream to be live.
You know everytime I'm going back to ship from my shoreleave I still can't even believe that I'm on that country then when i saw the our ship I always asked myself "I'm working there?" And my Dad once tell me until now he can't even believe also. I'm her child telling him before that I don't like to go college yet because I dunno what I want to be or what course I'll be taking but still I go. Well that child will be so proud of me right now!!!
Don't stop to trust all the things in the universe or what you call it. Just trust and thank later. It's difficult but worth it at the end!
My last contract was in Japan, YES DUDE JAAAAAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
I'm Back: What's Next for This Blog
Hello blognations! Blognations?😁
🗣️Life update: I'm three years living with my dream job 🏆
Hi to my 21 years old self, we made it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I took a break because of I'M A SEAFARER internationally NOW but I'm excited to return and relaunch this blog after taking away. For those who don't know me I work on a cruiseship now as a Linen keeper/Laundry Master. Life at sea is challenging, rewarding, and full of stories and I'm ready to share more of it with you.
During my break, I preparing to go onboard, to work onboard and to live on that routine as a seafarer. Routine means 7 to 8 months on board then 2 to 3 months vacation then travelling 13 hours and etc. But I've missed connecting with people who are curious about what life onboard or what life as a seafarer.
Sobra na ko sa English? Hahaha! Well I'm trying because some of the people I met this past few years was different nationalities so I need to adjust for extra audience. Hahaha! But for more emotions Tagalog was the BEST!
So now, this is my comeback. Expect the long stories and pictures about cruise ship or about seafarer and how I make it.
