dyanna's health deterioration was slow.
she took a few hard falls as a child, but nothing seemed wrong back then, she was simply clumsy; only after rhae was born did her balance begin to worsen, she'd get migraines if a storm was brewing, but she was still there. still herself.
one day, she fell off a horse, on a short excursion with maekar. whether the horse got spooked, or her dizzy spells took over again, dyanna slipped from the saddle and hit the ground with her back, head snapping backward.
everything took a nosedive from then. her hands shaking for no reason, suddenly stumbling, vision blurring when she'd try to read. she wouldn't be able to remember what happened yesterday, mixed up her children's names, had to take a moment to recognize faces and voices. she'd stare off into space, and it would take her a moment to come back.
not even two moons later, maekar wakes up to his wife seizing in their marital bed.
she never regained her breath. no matter how fervently maekar prayed, how quickly the maesters came, she was already out. they didn't even get to say goodbye, and all maekar can see when he closes his eyes is dyanna spasming uncontrollably, frothing at the mouth, and he can't do anything about it.
and now, after the ashford meadow, he's watching as baelor goes through the same things. struggles to regain his balance, has to wear specifically made spectacles to read letters and scrolls, headaches that come and go without rhyme and reason; when he has to try and grip utensils multiple times. he does it all with the same patience dyanna did.
and this time it's because of maekar.
and he still can't do anything about it.
