sypnosis: you’ve been attracted to neteyam for a while, however you feel as though his heart belongs to another.
a/n: once again, the reader’s name will be ilyana because i am too lazy to type (y/n). i don’t believe there are any spoilers in this fic, however if there is then i apologize. i hate when someone spoils a movie that others haven’t watched yet. major L if you are that person.
as soon as your father, tonowari, allowed shelter to the sully family, you and your siblings were tasked with assisting them to adapt to the ways of the metikayina clan. they were learning faster as each day passed and you couldn’t be any prouder. their breathing improved enough for them to hold their breathe underwater longer, you were able to understand their basic sign language, and you could also see that they were starting to admire the gifts that the ocean provided. you always felt pride well up in your chest when you taught them, especially neteyam.
you sat crossed legged with neteyam, who sat across from you on a rock. the ocean waves crashed against the rock, helping you both focus more on the breathing exercises that you taught him. you placed your hand on his abdomen as you breathed in, before moving it up to his heart to exhale.
“you’re a great teacher, ilyana.” neteyam said, grinning at you. “my breathing has improved since I’ve been doing these exercises with you.”
