By the time Y/n got home, her phone was unusable.
Notifications stacked endlessly across the lock screen.

Her high school’s official Instagram account had posted her acceptance an hour ago.
Congratulations to Seoul Highs very own @yn.yln for being accepted to a very prestigious preparatory school in the United States! Choate Academy!
There was even a picture attached — the one Adrien took last summer when they visited Busan.
Everyone knew now.
Teachers had commented.
Underclassmen she’d never spoken to had congratulated her.
Everyone expected an answer.
The house was quiet when she stepped inside.
The familiar scent of fabric softener and soup drifted from the kitchen. Her father’s shoes sat neatly by the door. The television murmured softly somewhere in the living room.
Home.
Y/n stood there longer than necessary while slipping off her sneakers. Because suddenly the idea of leaving it felt unbearable.
“Y/n?” her mother called. “You’re home?”
“Yeah.”
Her voice sounded strange even to herself. She walked into the kitchen slowly, still clutching her phone in one hand. Her mother glanced up from the stove immediately, smiling. “I saw the post,” she said proudly. “Your aunt already called twice.” Y/n groaned quietly, dropping her forehead against the fridge. “Please don’t tell me halmeoni knows too.”
“She absolutely knows.” Of course she did.
Her father entered a moment later from the living room, glasses pushed up into his hair. “Your principal emailed me personally.” Y/n laughed weakly. “That feels excessive.”
“You made your school look good.” The words should’ve made her happy. A month ago, they would have. She was happy. Wasn’t she? She’d worked for this for years. Late-night essays. Interviews in English until her throat hurt. Competing against students from everywhere. Wondering if she was good enough.
And she had been.
That mattered.
It mattered so much.
So why did her chest feel heavier now?
Her mother finally noticed her expression.
“What’s wrong? Y/n looked between them. This was it. The conversation she’d told her friends she would have. “I need to talk to you both.”
Immediately, her parents exchanged a look. Not worried exactly. Just attentive.
Her father sat down first. “Okay.”
Y/n stayed standing.
Because sitting somehow made this too real.
“I know everyone wants me to go,” she started carefully. “And I know I said I really wanted to go.”
“You wanted to go?” her mother said gently. “I still do.” That was the problem. Y/n rubbed her hands together nervously. “I’m just not sure anymore.” Silence settled across the kitchen. Not angry silence.
Listening silence.
Her father frowned slightly. “What changed?” Y/n opened her mouth. Closed it. How was she supposed to explain this without sounding ridiculous? “I think…” She exhaled shakily. “I didn’t really understand it before.”
“Understand what?”
“That I’d actually be leaving.”
The words hung there.
Her mother leaned against the counter quietly. “It’s just suddenly real now,” Y/n admitted. “Everybody’s congratulating me and talking about America and next year and—”
Her voice cracked slightly.
“—and I realized I’d be gone for my entire senior year.” Her father’s expression softened immediately. Y/n stared at the floor tiles. “I know it sounds stupid.”
“It doesn’t,” he said.
“But I worked so hard for this,” she whispered. “So why am I freaking out now?” No one answered immediately. Outside, rain tapped softly against the apartment windows. Y/N’s phone buzzed again on the counter. Probably another congratulations message.
She suddenly wanted to throw it across the room.
“I’m proud of myself,” she said quietly, almost defensive. “I really am.” Her mother nodded instantly. “You should be.”
“And I want to accept the opportunity. I do.” Her throat tightened. “But every time I think about leaving Korea now, I just…”
She stopped.
Because the rest caught painfully in her chest.
Her father understood anyway.
“Your sister.”
Y/n looked away immediately.
The mention of Danielle still had the power to change the entire atmosphere of a room.
Three years later and it still did that.
“It’s not just her,” Y/n said quickly. But even she heard the uncertainty in her voice. Her mother came to stand beside her at the table.
“You think leaving means leaving her behind?” Y/n blinked hard. “No,” she whispered automatically. Then after a pause, “Maybe.”
The honesty hurt.
Danielle existed in this house.
In the streets outside.
In the convenience store near their building.
In every tiny ordinary part of Y/n’s life.
America felt impossibly far away from all of it.
“I know she wouldn’t want me to stay just because of her,” Y/n said softly. “I know that.” Her father nodded. “But knowing that and feeling it are different things,” he said. Y/n looked up at him, startled. On the way here she’d been terrified her parents would dismiss her feelings immediately. Tell her she was overthinking. Tell her not to waste the opportunity. Instead, they just looked sad for her. Her mother reached over and squeezed her hand. “You don’t have to pretend this isn’t hard.”
That almost made Y/n cry instantly.
“I hate that I’m hesitating,” she admitted. “Everyone at school thinks I’m excited.”
“You are excited,” her father said gently. “And scared.”
Both.
That was the unbearable part.
If she didn’t want Choate, this would be easy.
If she wanted it without fear, this would also be easy.
Instead she wanted two completely different lives at the same time.
“I don’t know what to choose,” she whispered. Her parents were quiet for a moment. Then her father spoke carefully. “If you decide not to go, we will understand.” Y/n looked up quickly. “But,” he continued, “I don’t want fear to make the decision for you. You’ve worked so hard for this.”
Her chest tightened.
Because deep down, she knew that was exactly what he meant. Not weakness. Not failure.
Fear.
Fear of change.
Fear of distance.
Fear that moving forward somehow meant moving away from Danielle too.
Her mother brushed Y/n’s hair gently behind her ear. “You worked incredibly hard for this,” she said softly. “Not for us. For yourself.”
Y/n’s eyes stung. “And I think,” her mother added carefully, “part of you might still want to go.”
“I don’t know what i want anymore,” Y/n said. And for once, nobody rushed to fill the silence. Her mother’s hand stayed warm over hers. Her father leaned back slightly in his chair, watching her the way he always did when something mattered too much to interrupt. Outside, the rain softened into a steady drizzle against the window.
Finally, her father spoke.
“You don’t have to decide tonight.” Y/n let out a shaky breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. Her mother nodded immediately. “Of course not.”“But…” her father added carefully, “They do have a deadline.”
That made Y/n look up. A deadline means real life. Not just feelings. Not just confusion. Something final. Her mother glanced at the calendar on the fridge, then back at her husband.
The room felt suddenly smaller. After a pause, her father said gently, “August 1st, the email said” Y/N blinked. Her mind automatically did the math.
May 26th.
A little over two months. Not enough time to avoid the decision forever. But enough time to live inside it. “To confirm enrollment,” her mother added softly, as if trying to make it less sharp. Y/N nodded slowly, even though her chest tightened.
August 1st.
The words echoed in her head louder than anything else. Her father continued, voice calmer now. “That gives you time to think properly. Not just react.”
Her mother squeezed her hand once more. “We’re not forcing you,” she said. “We just… want you to be sure.”
Y/n stared down at the table.
Sure.
That was the word everyone kept pretending existed. As if there was a version of this where she could choose without losing something.
She nodded again, quieter this time.
“Okay.”
Her voice sounded distant to herself. Her father stood, slowly gathering the empty bowls from dinner like the conversation had ended in a way that wasn’t resolution, but pause.
Her mother stayed seated for a moment longer “You’re allowed to change your mind back and forth,” she said gently. “Just… don’t disappear inside it.” Y/n gave a small, tired breath that almost resembled a laugh. “I already kind of am.” Her mother didn’t deny it. Just stood up and brushed her hair back once more before walking toward the sink. The house returned to its usual sounds — water running, dishes clinking, the faint hum of the fridge.
Normal life continuing, even when hers felt paused mid-air.
Y/n stayed at the table.
August 1st.
Sixty-seven days.
She didn’t know whether that felt like too much time or not enough. But it was all she had.
writers note: sorry guys this one was sort of sad 😢 but it had to happen
this is probably going to be the only part like this

- EPISODE 1 - NEXT
you both get to the restaurant and sit down, he of course pulls your chair out for you (gentleman🙂🙂), once your both seated you look over the menu and pick out what each of you is eating and order. it was nice being out with seonghyeon just you two, i mean you’d never say it out loud but laughing with him was so effortless and you can’t help but let yourself stare just a few seconds too long at his smile when he laughs at one of your stupid jokes that probably only he would ever laugh at. he had talked about you for hours to keonho the previous night, he is the only one that officially knows about seonghyeons love for you. as for yourself you’ve been denying the whole ordeal for ages telling yourself you don’t like him you just find him attrctive but them thoughts are slowly catching up to you.
