masterlist ⋆ more of katsuki
the first time you found yourself being rudely awoken by an extreme wave of nausea, you thought that it probably had something to do with whatever you ate at the restaurant katsuki had taken you to on a dinner date the evening prior.
the man himself woke up soon after you'd quickly scurried over to the ensuite bathroom, keeping your hair away from your face and soothingly rubbing your back as you knelt down in front of the toilet at nearly 6:30 in the morning.
after that, he called in sick to work for you and put you on strict bed rest, only allowing you to eat food that he'd make himself to ensure this wouldn't happen again (as well as leaving the restaurant a very angry review consisting mostly of swear words).
for a good couple days, it worked - you slowly but surely regained your strength, and having katsuki hover around you all extra sweet and doting is always an added bonus!
but then it happened again.
despite only eating foods katsuki carefully prepared for you, three days later, you found yourself in the same situation minus your loving husband, who was on patrol this time. you planned on letting him know when he got home, but as soon as you saw the angry look on his face and heard him stomp around in his heavy hero boots, you decided to put it off for another day.
another day never really came. crime rate was increasing exponentially, which meant katsuki had more villains to fight, more sidekicks to train and worst of all, more paperwork to do. as a result, he'd come home irritated on a daily basis, wanting to do nothing other than bury his face in the crook of your neck as you lightly scratched his scalp and decided to put the news of your constant nausea off for yet another day.
the second sign of something not being right was the fact that all of a sudden, your emotions became awfully unpredictable. moments in which you'd usually be calm and collected resulted in you snapping at the nearest person without a second thought, only to be confused as to why you did it upon reflection. paired with katsuki's own bad mood due to stress at work, this quickly turned into a higher frequency of meaningless arguments between the two of you.
"i'm home," katsuki said, his voice a monotone as he carelessly took his boots off and made his way into your shared home. you paused the episode of brooklyn 99 you'd been half-watching and got up to greet him, bowl of instant noodles with what seemed to be nutella in hand.
katsuki glanced down at said bowl, the smallest of smiles making its way onto his face as he said, "i thought i told you to stop eating that junk - i can make you much better, authentic, noodles whenever you'd like."
he was messing with you. you knew he was, he'd been repeating slightly different versions of that exact line from the very first time he'd caught you making a pack of instant noodles, before you'd even began dating. all katsuki had done was an attempt at a lighthearted joke to try to ease the stress and tension that existed between the two of you, and yet, you found yourself in tears.
"what is your problem with me, katsuki?" you managed, before beginning to full-on sob, much to your husband's surprise, "not all of us are health freaks, okay? sometimes, i just wanna eat my food without thinking about all the preservatives and whatever else you go on about!"
just as katsuki was about to apologise, your eyes widened as you felt the sudden bout of nausea you'd grown very familiar with take over. completely disregarding your instant noodle argument, you ran to the bathroom, katsuki following you in confusion.
"hey, hey, baby, what's wrong?" he mumbled, concern laced in his voice as he kneeled down next to you, the scene from that morning after your dinner date repeating itself. as you turned to look at him, you tried to hide the guilt you felt for not telling him when it first happened, but if anyone could read you like an open book, it was katsuki.
his eyes narrowed as he said, "the vomiting never stopped, did it?" when you nodded, your eyes welling with tears again as it hit you that you'd lied to katsuki, he sighed in frustration.
katsuki's lips formed a thin line as he held back from giving you the lecture he usually would've. you were upset enough as is, and your mood has been strange and unpredictable for a while, so he didn't want to make things worse than they already were.
it was as he was thinking about what to say next that realisation hit him like a ton of bricks.
"look, sweetheart, i'm gonna tell you something, but you can't get mad at me, okay?" he said, taking a deep breath before continuing, "it's just a theory - i could be right, i could be wrong."
your brows furrowed at this. out of all the possible things katsuki could've done, coming up with theories and hypotheses was one of the last you expected. still, you nodded, bracing yourself for whatever it could be.
"i think you might be pregnant," at the mention of pregnancy, you felt yourself begin to cry again - sure, you and katsuki had always planned to start a family at some point, but it hasn't even been a year since you'd gotten married.
katsuki, surprisingly calmer than ever, took both your hands in his, "hey, its okay, we're okay, we haven't even checked yet, so i could be completely wrong - its just that... constant vomiting, mood swings, and... instant noodles are bad enough on their own, but with nutella? i thought i taught you better than that," at that last comment, katsuki finally managed to get a giggle out of you.
tightening your grip on his hands, you finally spoke, "katsuki, what if i am pregnant? i mean, i didn't consider it before, but it makes a lot of sense right now... plus, my period's more than a week late."
seeing the guilty and worried look on your face, katsuki's own hardened, "if you're pregnant, then we'll figure it out together. i'm an equal participant in this too, y'know. whether you want to keep it or not, i'll always be here for you, babe. we're a team."
you nodded, a teary smile on your face as katsuki pulled you up on your feet. for the first time in forever, you felt okay. that was a start.
tucking a stray hair behind your ear, katsuki said, "you stay here and wash up, i'll go buy a pregnancy test from the pharmacy and be back before you know it."
that was the plan, and it was exactly what you did. as you waited for katsuki, you entertained the idea of having a mini you-and-him running around the house. maybe having a baby right now wouldn't be too bad. unbeknownst to you, as he was asking the pharmacist which brand of pregnancy test was the most accurate, katsuki thought about the same thing.
by the time katsuki came home, you had both silently decided you wanted to keep it - if you really were pregnant, of course.
the bathroom was quiet as you sat on the toilet seat, staring at the pregnancy test in your hands as you waited for the possibility of two life-changing lines appearing. katsuki stared at you, carefully analysing your face and trying to figure out if you'd come to the same conclusion as him.
when you finally looked up at him, your eyes meeting his ruby-red ones and a smile breaking out on your face, he knew. instantly, katsuki lifted you up and twirled you around right then and there.
your perfect pair was about to gain an even more perfect third member.
