Reflection: Tuesday, June 6th

Today was our second day of boot camp and our second day going into the field to find sources. My team was called the Mets and we were assigned the Houdini Museum. It was intimidating at first because we didn’t know much about Harry Houdini and we didn’t know what our story would look like. However, we got lucky because the person we interviewed had a great personal story. He is Tommy Burnett, a comedy mentalist and the person who manned the magic store in the museum. Our contact person, Brendan, was not available at the time, so it was both a pleasant surprise and coincidence that we met Tommy. He showed us impressive magic tricks at first. After looking around the museum, we were finally ready to interview him. Noelle was amazing at broadcasting and asking questions for Tommy while Nisa and Gus took videos with me. Tommy’s insight and responses are certainly inspiring and I hope to find more interviewees like him in the future. Lastly, we were told to edit our videos on our phones. This was challenging because I was used to editing on my laptop. However, I learned much about using iMovie on my iPhone and I’m becoming more confident in my digital storytelling skills.
