WEEK 2 REFLECTION

I think the media and information literacy correlates with us becoming closer with God, our family and our nation by means of people using media as a way to communicate. With the help of media and information literacy, during this pandemic most people are afraid to go out. The church, through online, made it possible for people to attend masses and connect to God. For me it is better this time because families are together. Media literacy places a vital role in today’s modern environment. The advent of media and information literacy to helps us to become closer as one nation. Through this, we will be knowledgeable about our history, culture, and the distinct qualities we have as Filipinos that differentiate us from others. Thus, it will make us closer as a people which can develop in us a deep sense of patriotism and nationalism.

1. Communication is a process, by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior.

2. Communication is a process because it involves three principal entities: the sender of the communication, the message or content of communication and the receiver of the message. Without any of these three, there's no communication.

3. The positive impact is that media is full of positive and up-to-date information which is beneficial for healthy conversations.

4. Negative impact is that media nowadays is providing false information and we absorb it and make it facts for discussions and communication. What this does is that our facts are pointless and sometimes false.

APART BUT NEVER ALONE

It has been approximately 16 weeks since the COVID-19 outbreak was first experienced. People from around the world panicked against the global pandemic because of unawareness that the virus has been spread throughout the world. It is no joke that social media have been a big part of our daily life, especially during the quarantine period. I, myself has used social media in communicating with my friends by means of Messenger, Zoom and even Telegram. It is really helpful for us, especially the millennial to communicate with each other since we’re used to use social media. Even though my parents aren’t technologically literate as much as I do, they teach themselves on how to use it for communication. Since a lot of my parents acquaintances are from abroad and they barely communicate with each other so the use of social media made communications a lot easier than before. Also the use of social media helped us to watch news. My family is a fan of ABS-CBN channel and since they got shut down there is no other ways for us to watch news from them. Luckily with the use of YouTube, we can know the latest news around the country and it really helped us to communicate with people.
