i do feel bad for the writers on bojack and rick and morty because they know they have shitty male fans that idolize and identify with their mains, so they’ve both now made explicit episodes that are like ‘stop idolizing them. they’re not the hero they suck.’ and every fan has just been like ‘no i got it. they’re the antihero which is even cooLER’

I liked the Mr. PeanutButter and Bojack stuff a lot this season! There’s a lot about this season I could go on and on about. But I liked the character studies this year that make the characters and us ask uncomfortable questions about ourselves. Bojack is Bojack. We come to expect less and less of him every season even though his few genuinely good qualities make us want to believe in him. Because we want to believe we can be better, too. But he’s very easy to hate. That’s not work.

Mr. PeanutButter is by far the more likeable character. However, he is a deeply flawed listener and communicator who has three failed marriages and an infidelity under his belt. He’s the character we don’t *want* to hate, but the show isn’t going to let us NOT truly examine these characters. Mr. PeanutButter is like the beloved celebrity you hate to hear anything bad about. But we–along with the characters–are being forced to truly see them, no matter how uncomfortable it makes us, which seemed to be a running theme of this season.
