I started re-reading trimax.. and DAMN studio orange for making the most innocent looking- babygirly Vash in existence! This is FOUL!! They’re gonna show us some over the top cgi anime on a soft kinky porn scene in 4K and i don’t know if I’ll ever survive it!!!

I know everyone and their mother is frothing at the mouth about it but. The fact that they have Vash say “Who are you?” in the English dub before telling Knives he doesn’t recognize him anymore. Good lord. It’s like Vash is seeing Knives for the first time and realizing his twin has become completely unrecognizable.

Even as the visual cues have actually made their physical similarities even more obvious (Vash’s finale redesign having his hair pushed back, the multiple side by side shots, Knives himself having discarded his amongus hoodie) it’s a moment where their identities diverge.

Violently.

“I’m Vash the Stampede” and “Nai is dead.” The finale of Trigun s1 is the declaration to end 150 years of stalemate. Even as they once defined themselves as a pair, when Vash asks “Who are you?” with such broken, seething horror, it’s like he’s realizing he’ll have to let him go.

It’s heartbreaking when you consider he once said “I’ll find a way to save everyone…including Nai.” This is when the denial shatters and Vash thinks for the first time that maybe he can’t save his brother.

(Maybe his brother doesn’t want to be saved.)

It’s an interesting parallel to every little betrayal Vash has stacked on Knives’s shoulders over the years. Knives, at least, holds no illusions about the sort of person his brother is. Knives knows damn well Vash won’t listen to him, hence the mindbreak in ep11.

It’s Vash who’s held on for so long to the fragile hope that he can get through to Knives. Vash who believes in Knives’s capacity for change. Vash who has faith in him.

“Who are you?” is emblematic of all that hope, all that love, shattering. It makes me so emotional. Imagine asking your twin, your mirror, the only one like you in the world, who they are because you don’t recognize them anymore. God. The localization team went off with that one.

I saw someone say that Vash cutting Knives’ face after Wolfwood’s death was a way of saying “how dare you take him from me” but that’s… not what happened. Knives did not take Wolfwood dawg. I feel like some of y’all be like not paying attention reading. Wolfwood died because he finally tried to do things Vash’s way. He finally decided to spare lives like Vash does (and this applies to 98 too honestly) Wolfwood’s death will forever and always be a result of Vash’s flawed ideology. Also it’s a bit hard to tell because of the cluttered art but Vash was creating a force field to protect the orphanage from Knives’ attack. It’s not “how dare you take him from me” it’s “stay the fuck away” it’s protecting what Wolfwood gave his life for and not letting his friend’s death be in vain and it’s directly disobeying Knives’ orders to not use his powers.

I’m obsessed with the ways they broke through the window like Vash had a failed high jump attempt and Knives really just belly flopped his way out

Been listening on repeat stampede ost 2 and i just need to let it out.

On ep 9 we learn about the twins song which titled as ‘Duet’. It was started by child-Nai seemingly playing some high notes slowly like he’s still trying to compose a melody, and he feels proud when it comes out beautifully (he smiles too, omg)

And then Vash came in a crash and started playing his own made up melody in low notes and upped the tempo (the melody is the one that he humms in ep 12 btw), making Nai feel annoyed and struggled to follow his lead at first.

But in a second, Nai started to get a feel on the melody and they keep on playing the duet. (Lol his face. Turn out your brother is a genius pianist too, right Nai? Vash charm +35)

Then we finally back with teen-Nai finishing it alone. And he actually included Vash’s low notes parts into his composition now. (His left hand replacing Vash’s, god..)

AND NOW we know that Nai’s piano (which also titled as Knive’s Piano btw), is like a solo composition he made based on their duet song, and that makes me feel soft.

Add in the Million Knives vocal version and it’s like a triple kill ☠️
