An Icon A Day

Starting a sprint to finish this A-Z project this month. The letter Q took me a lot of thinking and finally I decided on the 'Queue'. Its definitely an essential icon and I believe that after I submitted my colloquium paper, I understand the creation and usage of icons better.

Its been a long time since the last post. I decided to hibernate this project because I had lot of things going on keeping me busy.  I hope to be consistent from today. The Peace symbol was designed as the logo for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and adopted by anti-war and counterculture activists in the United States and elsewhere. I am not so sure about the inclination of the two hands but I've tried to keep it as geometric as I thought it should be.

O for Owl

One of my seniors here at college is obsessed with Owls. We always add an owl to her wall when we find it. Here's my addition to her collection.

L for Lighthouse

Being brought up on the west coast of India, I got to see quite a few lighthouses till now. The Kapu one and the Mahabalipuram one are the ones that I remember the most.

K for Kite

Oh the Joy, of flying a kite. Of rising on the upwind, to soaring like the namesake; the kite. Up, up, up into the light.

J for Jail Another uninspiring day. I feel like I am in Jail. Also we found a disney edition of Monopoly that we keep playing nowadays.

I for Icecream

This icon reminds me of childhood and the joy of a cold ice candy on a hot day. I made a couple more versions of Ice cream but am posting only this for now.

H for Hospital

Surprised that there aren't that many great icons for hospital on the Noun Project. Hospitals are so important for human well being although I've been averse to visiting them.

The challenge with this icon is to prevent it from resembling a church.

The stress of doing a daily project is catching up with me. I do not know how punctual I will be anymore.

G for Gentleman

This icon is an outdated representation of what a gentleman is. It resembles victorian high class men. Today the idea of gentlemen has changed a lot. I do not feel that it's restricted to the high classes(or that it ever was), or monocle wearing individuals(can you even buy one nowadays?) But for most of us(especially due to the memes) this icon would evoke a visual of a gentleman of yesteryear. Curious isn't it?

F for Farmer

I was offline this weekend and hence was not supposed to be able to do the icons on the weekend. I took part in a gaming jam on Sunday, which was a lot of fun.

I am not very happy with the way this icon turned out. I shall try to improve and update it soon. It's been a long day and I need some rest now.

E for Eye

Without Eyes, the world is lost to us.

The more I think, the more I feel that my subject selection is based on objects close to me. But it could be just me overthinking :P

D for Dustbin

I really did not know what to make today. I finally settled on the humble dustbin icon which is so omnipresent in today's world. This is my version of it. I felt that just a 'trashcan' would not really be culturally relevant, hence the hand throwing the paper.

I wonder what E brings tomorrow.

C for Chappals.

Yesterday, I thought I would draw an icon for Chai but then the more I thought, the more I realised that a lot of Indian objects remain unrepresented. What about Icons for Chaat? Curd? Chappati? Chillum? That is why I changed my topic to Chappals.

Tomorrow's word is from D.

India is the World's largest democracy and the second most populated country. That's why when searching for the word from B, I decided to opt for the Ballot Box. Tomorrow's letter is C.

My first attempt at designing an icon.

I did not know where to start from, so I thought 'Start' or 'Go' would be a good place but found them to be difficult problems to tackle for a n00b like me. That took me to the Alphabet. A for Apple is what we are first taught. Too much of hype around an Apple so I decided to opt for the next option 'Aeroplane/Airplane'.

This is 'A for Aeroplane', the first of the Alphabet series.

I would appreciate feedback on it. You can also suggest what my next Icon should be.
