Thinking about a Robin and Dustin friendship between s4-s5.. like HEAR ME OUT when stobin start working at wsqk things are already a bit tense between Dustin and Steve, so when Dustin is around tinkering on some of their machinery she's the one usually helping him because she's better with technology than Steve. At first she is mostly cold with Dustin– She doesn't want any unnecessary arguing, and he is her friend, but it's hard to play nice when Dustin seems to be taking all his problems out on her best friend.
But as they work together, Robin gets to understand him better. He talks about bullies and how much he hates that everyone is pushed into a mold and how he'll always be different and weird and she gets it. He mumbles under his breath about Steve being too self sacrificing and that "the asshole needs to consider himself asweel sometimes" and she gets it. He accuses her and Steve of dating for the hundredth time and somehow she finally beats it into him that they're just friends, because platonic relationships are very important to Robin and well, Dustin gets that too.
They talk about trivial things like movies and hobbies and it's so easy for her to be around him that Steve starts to get jealous of Robin for being able to talk with Dustin normally. But it also soothes Steve to know that, according to Robin, Dustin does care and worry a lot and it makes being patient with him easier.
