Shoyo Hinata (Haikyuu!!)
HINATA
I was walking through the school corridors when in the distance I see my best friend y/n running at me with an annoyed expression on their face. We’d been friends since childhood, our families living next door to one another and we didn’t hold back on one another. Luckily there weren’t many people around because y/n hated making scenes in front of people, but I still tense as they come to a halt in front of me breathing heavy and face still looking annoyed.
‘I’m sorry, you dropped this,’ y/n growls.
‘Dropped what?’ I answer confused and look down at the ground to see nothing at my feet.
Next thing I know I feel a whack across the back of my head and immediately rub the sore area pouting. I glance over at y/n who was fuming.
‘Your common sense, you moron, what the hell were you thinking?’ they reply kind of harshly.
‘What exactly did I do?’ I ask, wanting to know what got my best friend worked up enough to hit me quite hard if I may add.
y/n folds their arms across their chest and stamps their foot, ‘you got yourself kicked out of the volleyball club before you even joined. How does that happen Hinata?’
Of course, y/n would have found out about the little volleyball incident, and now I felt kind of embarrassed because it was over something stupid.
I rub my head, ‘do you remember Kageyama?’
y/n nods their head, ‘what does ‘the king of the court’ have to do with this?’
I sigh loudly, ‘he’s at the school and wanted to join the volleyball team like me, and we kind of got into a fight and both kicked out.’
y/n unfolds their arms and brings them up to their mouth and starts to laugh, ‘you’ve got to be kidding me, what are the chances of that?’
I much preferred happy and laughing y/n than mad and annoyed y/n. My head still hurt, y/n really should consider fighting because they could do some damage.
‘How are you going to get on the team Hinata?’ y/n asks, between laughs trying to be serious, but once they started laughing they couldn’t stop.
I stand up straight and puff out my chest a little, ‘I’m going to befriend Kageyama and the two of us will prove we belong when we take part in a three on three match.’
y/n stops laughing, but the smile never leaves their lips, ‘then I shall help you achieve your goals Hinata, that’s what best friends do.’
It was now my turn to laugh, more awkward than theirs because the years had been kind to y/n and it was hard to see them as a simple friend when I think I want something else with them.
Tobio Kageyama (Haikyuu!!)
Y/N
Out of all your friends you were the only one who hadn’t chosen an after school club to be a part of. You were kind of quiet and reserved, not one for interaction with other humans outside of scheduled classes. Instead, you found yourself in the school library getting a head start on tomorrow’s homework, and even some advanced reading your teacher suggested since you couldn’t be bumped up a year or two. Yes, you were intelligent, your parents had driven the importance of education over fun if you wanted to succeed at life, get a good job, and find a respectable husband.
You’re surprised when the library doors fly open and in stumbles probably your closest friend Tobio Kageyama, or simply Kageyama as he liked to be called. He looked freaked out as his eyes frantically search the library until his eyes meet yours and his freaked-out expression lightens.
‘There you are y/n, I need to talk to you?’ he gasps, a little out of breath. He had volleyball practice, and it was quite far between the gym and the library.
You close your textbook and tilt your head to the side, ‘what do you need to talk to me about? Don’t you have practice?’
He nods, ‘I need to pass the upcoming tests and you know I’m really bad at studying. My volleyball career depends on this y/n,’ he pleads.
Kageyama could be cold to most people, but when around you he dropped his coldness and acted more human. You tap your pen on the textbook and raise a single eyebrow, ‘I guess I could help you if your career depends on it.’
His whole face lights up, and next thing you know he’s full-on hugging you which probably looked strange, as you were sat down and he towered over you when stood up, ‘thank you, and by the way I’m sorry.’
You hug the setter back, ‘sorry for what? You haven’t done anything.’
He pulls away and you see a faint blush on his cheeks, ‘it’s a pre-emptive apology. I can guarantee it will come in handy later.’
Now you were a little worried at what you’d gotten yourself into. You were in a different class to Kageyama and never really talked about academics, him preferring to talk about volleyball which was something you had in common and took your mind off boring studying. How hard could it be to teach your best friend? This would be a piece of cake.
Kageyama leans down and ruffles your hair, ‘right I’m off, got to rub it in Hinata’s face I’m going to pass these tests.’
You watch your best friend leave as quickly as he’s entered. Now you couldn’t keep your mind on homework, so decided to pack up and head home for the day. However, when you walk out of the library you bump into Kei Tsukishima who was in your class, who you battled with to have top grades.
‘I see his majesty came to you for help y/n, did you fall so easily?’ he mocks, and you roll your eyes knowing this was just his attitude and you used to it by now.
‘I decided to help a friend, it shouldn’t be too hard,’ you reply.
Tsukishima stops smirking, ‘wow, you haven’t seen his grades, have you? Good luck.’
If what Tsukishima was saying was true, that explained Kageyama’s pre-emptive apology. Oh that sneaky setter, he knew how to wrap you around his finger. You weren’t going to go soft on him, you took grades seriously, he didn’t know what he’s let himself in for.
Yū Nishinoya (Haikyuu!!)
Y/N
Tonight was the night of the school dance and you couldn’t believe that you were going, let alone having been asked by your boyfriend Nishinoya. If it wasn’t to do with volleyball Nishinoya could be oblivious, and you didn’t want to go to the dance alone, so after a few hints he asked you and you said yes. Okay, so it wasn’t the most romantic, you’d been helping out with practice and he was all sweaty and worn out, but it was the thought that counted.
You’d never seen your boyfriend in anything other than comfy clothes and his volleyball uniform, so seeing him in a suit would be a once in a lifetime experience. Of course, you’d put a lot of thought into your dress and you couldn’t wait for your boyfriend to see you for the first time because he’d also only ever really seen you in comfy clothes or the school uniform.
‘y/n, Nishinoya is here,’ your mum calls from downstairs.
You put the finishing touches to your makeup, slip into some small heels because it was hard to walk in heels, pick up your clutch and head out of the bedroom.
Nishinoya had his back to you as you walk downstairs, meanwhile, your mum gushed from the living room doorway and your father looked like he wanted to cry but was holding back. From behind Nishinoya looked good in a suit, and you couldn’t wait to see him from the front.
You clear your throat, ‘we look like idiots.’
He turns around and his eyes widen as he takes all of you in, ‘yeah, but we are fancy idiots tonight y/n. You look amazing.’
As you reach the bottom of the stairs you give a little twirl and look your boyfriend over, approving of the light blue tie which matched your dress, ‘who knew I was dating a gentleman.’
‘Okay, the two of you get close so we can take some photos,’ you mum beams, clearly having the time of her life seeing her usually tomboyish child looking like a princess.
Nishinoya snakes an arm around your waist and pulls you close making you blush a little. The two of you had a rather playful relationship but shared the odd romantic moment, which would have been better if your parents weren’t directly in front of you snapping picture after picture.
Nishinoya leans in and whispers in your ear, ‘everyone’s going to be jealous when we walk through those doors y/n. Prepare to have all the attention on you tonight.’
You smile and nod, ‘as long as you’re by my side I’ll be fine.’
Before you met Nishinoya you were a little reserved, the complete opposite of him, but the two of you just clicked one day and like the saying goes ‘opposites attract’. Now neither of you could imagine ever being with someone else.
Rem Kaginuki (Dance With Devils)
Y/N
Ah the weekend, your favourite two days because there was no school, and you were free to do whatever you liked. You’d made sure to do all your homework after school on Friday because you hated working on weekends. You’d planned out a fun and relaxing weekend with your boyfriend Rem Kaginuki, head of the school council and all-around hottie, making every student jealous of you but you didn’t care.
Yes, you knew he was a devil, as being a lesser demon yourself the two of you surprisingly fit together like peas in a pod despite class difference and ranking on the food chain. Everyone was against you two in the beginning, but you soon won over the other council members who liked how you were able to calm Rem down when he got mad.
You’d made sure to double-check with Rem and the council that he had no plans this weekend, and as far as you were aware he was all yours for the weekend. You’d been perfecting your cooking skills and had put together a nice picnic since the weather was nice, and then in the evening the two of you would cuddle and watch films, mostly your picks because Rem liked seeing you happy.
However as you watch the clock your happiness slowly fades to hurt, because Rem was half an hour late and hadn’t the decency to even text or call you explaining himself. You pick up your phone and dial his number, he picks up on the third ring.
‘Sorry y/n I can’t talk right now,’ he says, sounding stressed.
You pout, ‘ok I’ll keep it quick, where are you? You were supposed to be here thirty minutes ago.’
Rem sighs loudly, ‘we have a lead on the grimoire.’
‘You promised that I’d get to have you all weekend. Why can’t the other council members go?’ you reply rather bluntly.
‘Because it’s my job, and it’s important y/n,’ he snaps.
You gulp, ‘and I’m not?’ you hang up without another word.
All Rem cared about was the grimoire nowadays, you weren’t important to him anymore.
REM
The lead on the grimoire had been false, we were none the closer to finding its whereabouts, and all day I’d had y/n on my mind and how our call ended. They were right, I could have sent the other council members because we weren’t even sure the lead was strong, but I liked to be in control at all times. I knew I’d messed up when I called it more important that y/n, why did they continue to put up with me?
I sneak into y/n’s house, they needed to lock their windows and walk through the kitchen hearing the TV on in the other room. I stop by the kitchen table and a wave of guilt washes over me seeing a picnic basket and blanket y/n had a whole day planned for us and I didn’t have the decency to tell them I wouldn’t be coming.
Walking into the lounge I find y/n asleep on the sofa, a blanket hanging half on their body and half on the floor. On the coffee table were a bunch of films, and I realised they were films y/n had been talking about all week and I said I’d watch them.
y/n was a level demon, lower than me on all levels, but they wormed their way into my life and my life would be a lot more boring and plain without them. I pick up the blanket and place it over them, a small smile graces y/n’s lips as they snuggle into the warmth. I didn’t want to wake them, so I’d have to find another way to apologise to them.
Kenma Kozume (Haikyuu!!)
KENMA
‘How did someone like you end up with y/n?’ Bokuto jokes.
I pause my game and look up at the ace and shrug my shoulders, ‘what do you mean?’
Kuroo sits down next to me and picks up his water bottle, ‘he wants to know when you started dating y/n.’
‘err, I’m not sure on the exact details,’ I reply honestly.
Tsukishima and Hinata come over and join us, ‘are you sure they’re even dating?’ Tsukishima mocks.
While the four of them began bickering I tried my hardest to pinpoint exactly when y/n and I started dating. We’d been friends since childhood, both quiet kids, but y/n stuck up for me when I got bullied and from that day on we were inseparable. We had so much in common, so much so that it was scary to anyone on the outside because we would have our own little conversations only we could understand.
As we got older we continued doing things we’d done as kids, such as sleepovers where we’d sleep in the same bed and cuddle despite both of us being older and coming into our bodies. Being all close and touchy around each other was normal for us, we didn’t see anything wrong, and we loved each other.
I clear my throat, ‘one day we were hanging out and realised friends don’t usually do what we do together. So we kind of went for it without even thinking, I don’t we’ve ever even made it official, it’s natural.’
The four stop their bickering and stare at me blankly, probably because it had been the most they’d heard me speak, well minus Kuroo because we were teammates and friends off the court. I shrug my shoulders and unpause my game, I had to finish this level before y/n.
‘Well if Kenma can get someone to date them, then it shouldn’t be hard for the rest of us,’ Bokuto states rather loudly, most likely puffing his chest out.
‘Good luck finding someone to put up with your loudmouth,’ Tsukishima points out.
‘Excuse me four eyes—‘ Bokuto responds.
‘No fighting guys,’ Hinata interrupts, getting in between the two players like he could do anything against those giants.
At least while their attention was on each other it wasn’t on me or my relationship with y/n. They’d find this situation rather funny if they were here, maybe I should film it and send it to them. Maybe after I’d completed this level.
Lindo Tachibana (Dance With Devils)
LINDO
y/n was an exorcist on training and had been assigned to me as their mentor. y/n had a lot of potential, being able to quickly pick up on things that didn’t belong in the human world, though their Latin did require work if they wanted to be able to exorcise and deal with the supernatural threat.
Tonight I’d gotten word of vampires trying to get close to Ritsuka, so y/n had suggested we deal with them before they could get close. This led us to an abandoned warehouse, which looked straight out of a scary movie. y/n didn’t know about my joint heritage, and I wanted to keep it that way for now because I wasn’t fully sure if she’d snitch me out or not.
‘Lindo, above you!’ they shout.
I look up in time to see four vampires who’d been hiding in the ceiling beams drop to the ground circling the two of us. y/n was already starting the exorcism while I fought the vampires off to give y/n as much time as they needed. However, neither of us saw vampire number five, who appears behind y/n, grabs them from behind and sinks their fangs into y/n’s neck.
I see red and the vampire side of my heritage kicks into overdrive as I skilfully take down each vampire including the one who’d latched itself onto y/n. Before I could reach the pair, however, the vampire stopped drinking y/n’s blood, cut their wrist and forced it against y/n’s mouth. I’d never wish this fate on anyone, especially y/n.
y/n was gasping for breath in my arms as I hold them to my chest slowly rocking them, the wound on their neck already healing showing the transition was in process.
‘I feel different,’ she whispers.
‘Close your eyes and go to sleep y/n, I’ll be here when you wake up,’ I say calmly when adrenaline and vengeance was pumping through my veins.
y/n shuts their eyes and after a couple of minutes stops breathing entirely, they were dead but not quite the normal dead.
Y/N
When you open your eyes you have to shield them from a bright light, which quickly dims.
‘Sorry y/n I forgot your eyes would be sensitive,’ Lindo apologises quite close to you.
You were in your bed, in your room, and Lindo stood next to the bed staring down at you with concern and guilt across his grace.
‘Did last night happen?’ you ask.
Lindo nods, ‘just know that I’m not going to treat you any differently, and I will help you cope with your new life.’
You can’t help but snort, ‘why do you sound so knowledgeable on the subject?’
When Lindo doesn’t reply with a joke or snarky remark you knew something was up. And you get your answer when you lock eyes with him and are taken aback by a familiar red glow, was he a vampire as well?
‘I’m half vampire half human, I was going to tell you once I could trust you wouldn’t snitch me out y/n,’ he replies and looks down at his feet.
You throw the sheets back and get out of bed with a bit of a wobble and throw your arms around him, ‘we’ll have each other’s backs from now on.’
Lindo hugs you back, nuzzling his face in your hair, ‘you can always rely on me y/n.’
Urie Sogami (Dance With Devils)
URIE
I have a lot of beautiful butterflies, what can I say they are drawn to me and my many ‘charms’. There was however one butterfly who evaded my capture, they were immune to my ways and didn’t fall head over heels in love with me. y/n l/n was an enigma, they were quiet and kept to themselves, got good grades and all the teachers liked them. They were smart and beautiful, and every time I was around them they got flustered but never enough to fully crack under my spell.
Today I was strolling through the hallway when someone bumps into me, and that person was y/n. However they didn’t look like their normal composed self, their hair was messy and they had a split lip and red puffy eyes indicating they’d been crying.
‘What happened y/n?’ I ask, concerned.
y/n pushes past me, ‘leave me alone Urie I don’t need you making things worse.’
Before they can get too far away I reach out and grab their arm, ‘you’re upset about something.’
y/n shakes their head, ‘I’m not,’ they huff.
I tut, ‘I know that face. That’s your ‘I’m upset with you face’ and your eyebrows, they get expressive when you’re mad y/n.’
More tears fall down y/n’s cheeks as they try to get out of my grip, ‘please Urie let me go, I can’t deal with this anymore.’
I let y/n go, ‘deal with what anymore?’
y/n rubs their eyes making them worse, ‘like you don’t know or care what your precious little butterflies are up to.’
I was taken aback by y/n’s bluntness and venom in their tone when they spoke about my butterflies.
‘What happened?’
y/n shakes their head and walks away, head down. I guess it was up to me to find out what was going on.
~Next Day~
I was shocked to find out that a certain group of butterflies had taken it upon themselves to gang up on y/n while they were studying in the library, and rough them up. I know we had pull at this school, but the fact the librarian didn’t step in to help enraged me even more. They didn’t like y/n’s carefree attitude towards me and wanted to put y/n in their place. I’d never asked them to do this, and now y/n believed that I had orchestrated the whole thing.
‘You messed up this time Urie, y/n’s a good person,’ Mage says, glaring at me across the council room.
‘Your butterflies need their wings cutting,’ Shiki interjects, while cutting the heads off white roses, ‘y/n is the only human in this school I like.’
‘How are you going to fix this Urie? y/n’s grades look good for the school, we can’t have them slipping because of you,’ Rem pipes up from behind his desk.
I was stunned to discover that the rest of the council knew y/n and seemed to like them. Now they’d also turned on me which I didn’t like. I needed the perfect way to make it up to y/n, and a light bulb goes off above my head.
‘I’m going to make it right,’ I state, as I stand up and leave the room.
y/n was alone walking across the school grounds close to Shiki’s rose bushes, looking more put together than they did yesterday, except evidence of the split lip was still there and slight bruising makeup was struggling to conceal.
‘y/n wait up, I want to apologise,’ I call out.
y/n stops and turns around, holding their books close to their chest, ‘you don’t apologise Urie.’
I straighten up, ‘I never asked those girls to attack you, I’m sorry they caused you distress and hurt. I guess I didn’t realise how much influence I had until yesterday, and it scares me thinking they could hurt you more y/n. I know when you first came to the school I tried to hit on you, I didn’t make the best first impression so I’m going to make it right now.’
y/n genuinely looks confused, ‘how?’
I extend my hand and smile, I’m Urie Sogami it’s a pleasure to meet you y/n. I hope we can be friends.’
y/n cracks a smile and shakes my hand back, ‘hello Urie, I would like to try being friends if you’re serious and not joking.’
I nod, ‘This isn’t a joke y/n, I’m going to make things right by going back to the start.’
y/n’s smile gets a little brighter, they had a nice smile I wanted to see more.
Mage Nanashiro (Dance With Devils)
MAGE
I didn’t go to classes that often, I didn’t see the point in them, but ever since a transfer student arrived I find myself going to more and more classes. y/n l/n had been assigned the seat next to mine, and from what I could tell initially they were too pure for this earth. They had this natural beauty they were unaware of, and since finding out they’d been homeschooled so had limited interaction with peers their age fellow students started taking advantage of the innocence and naive nature y/n radiated.
y/n was intelligent, so really students took advantage of y/n’s friendly helpful nature when it came to class projects if they wanted to get a good grade. y/n probably couldn’t believe people were talking to them, let alone asking them for help. It surprised many that I had yet to take advantage of y/n, it was in my DNA as a devil and the ‘bad boy’ of the school, but I saw myself as more of a protector since y/n needed all the protection they could get.
Over the months I got closer to y/n, they opened up around me because I wasn’t so much in their face and business like everyone else, and this gave me an edge over other male students who had started to see y/n as more than just a way to get good grades. y/n’s main problem lay in the fact they hated letting people down, and sometimes they were oblivious to confessions until they’d shut the person down in the politest way possible.
I wasn’t like Urie who had many butterflies, I was the type to get jealous very easily once I believed something belonged to me.
‘Mage! Help me!’ y/n calls out, snapping me out of my thoughts, as I see them running towards me down the hallway looking panicked.
I pick them up bridal style and run out of the school building, hearing what sounded like footsteps behind us, ‘what happened y/n?’ I ask as I try to find somewhere for us to hide.
y/n bites their lip, ‘three guys tried to confess to me in a row, I got overwhelmed and ran away, especially when other students started calling me rude names because I won’t accept a confession.’
Shiki’s rose bushes were the only option, and I’m thankful not to find him as I crouch down to hide with y/n very much still in my arms clinging on. y/n shouldn’t be called names, they had every right to deny confessions.
‘You’re safe now y/n,’ I say, a little out of breath from running.
Footsteps and raised voices run past the rose bushes, and y/n ducks their head into my chest. It was now or never to tell y/n how I truly felt about them.
‘y/n I want you. All of you, and not just half-heartedly, wholly. And maybe that’s selfish, but I don’t care,’ I ramble.
y/n looks up at me with wide curious eyes, a faint blush on their cheeks, ‘I’ve never been in a relationship before Mage.’
I shake my head, ‘we can take things one day at a time. I love you y/n and I want to protect you. Other students wouldn’t dare mess with me.’
y/n nods their head, ‘okay Mage, I accept your confession. I love you as well.’
Most people would have been annoyed by y/n’s bluntness, but it was a part of their charm. I was going to show them what a perfect relationship could be. Now I just had to find a way to break it to the other council members I was dating a human.
Kōtarō Bokuto (Haikyuu!!)
Y/N
Your boyfriend Bokuto had come over because you didn’t go to the same school and weekends were the only real time you could hang out. You went to Karasuno and helped out their volleyball team which is how the two of you met. It was pretty corny, at first you found his arrogance annoying but after a while, it grew on you, until one day he asked you on a date and you said yes taking him by surprise. The two of you had been together for two months and neither team knew.
‘We’re like Romeo and Juliet of the volleyball world y/n,’ Bokuto sing songs from the living room, as you potter around the kitchen making a snack.
You can’t help but snort, ‘how romantic. Since when do you read?’
You don’t hear your boyfriend enter the kitchen as you had your back to the door, trying to reach a pan off the top shelf.
‘Since when have you been so short?’ he jokes, making you jump.
He stands behind you and easily reaches the pan, you hear the smugness in his voice. Yes, you were shorter than him and no he didn’t let you forget it. You insult his intelligence and he insults your height, that’s how your relationship worked.
You turn around and reach your arms up, even going on your tiptoes to wrap your arms around his neck and pull him down to your height before kissing him, ‘thank you. I won’t insult your intelligence again.’
He grins mischievously and snakes his arms around your waist, ‘and don’t you be growing any taller, I like being able to help you y/n.’
He goes in for another kiss which you accept, feeling warm inside because this was the first time you’d been in love and didn’t want these feelings to ever go away.
‘OH MY GOD!’
Your whole body along with Bokuto’s tenses upon hearing the familiar voice of your cousin Hinata shout from the doorway.
The two of you quickly pull away from one another, ‘Hinata what a surprise, I thought you were hanging out with the team today.’
Bokuto was simply scratching his head not knowing what to do, well our secret wasn’t going to stay secret for much longer because Hinata could not keep secrets.
Hinata shakes his head, ‘err I was y/n, then they asked if you should join us. When you didn’t answer your phone I came over. How long have you two been dating?’
You gulp nervously, ‘two months.’
Bokuto clears his throat and steps in front of you, ‘listen up Hinata I love your cousin and we’re going to continue being together whether both our teams like it or not, understood?’
Your cheeks blush as Hinata’s face lights up like a Christmas tree, ‘you just said you love y/n.’
Bokuto blushes heavily and turns to face you, and all you can do is squeal and jump at him, thankful he catches you bridal style, ‘I would have liked better circumstances, but I love you as well.’
‘I won’t tell the team until you’re ready to come out, you’re my cousin y/n and I don’t want to ruin things for you.’
You nod in your cousin’s direction, ‘thank you Hinata, now please make up a good excuse so we can continue hanging out.’
Hinata salutes you before leaving.
Bokuto carries you into the living room and sits down on the sofa still holding you, you make yourself more comfortable and chuckle under your breath, ‘we might not need the poison yet Romeo.’
Bokuto cuddles you, nuzzling his face in your hair, ‘just tell me when and where Juliet.’
Tetsurō Kuroo (Haikyuu!!)
KUROO
Volleyball practice was over for the day, but I decided not to walk home with the others because the lights were still on in the dance studio which meant y/n was still at school. y/n was a dancer, a very good and serious one at that. We met on accident when I nearly knocked them over on the way to volleyball practice and they scolded me for nearly hurting the tools they needed for their sport. The next day I apologised and they also apologised for being snappy and things kind of went from there.
I knew nothing about dance and they knew nothing about volleyball. On days off I’d teach y/n about my passion and then they’d teach me about theirs.
I enter the studio quietly and put my bag down noting y/n was the only student left. From what I remembered from my ‘lessons’ y/n was dancing a contemporary number to a song I’d never heard before. I could get lost in their movements, and the way their body flowed and stretched, hitting each note of the song and bringing out an abundance of emotions.
The music stops and y/n keeps their back to me, ‘you know it’s rude to stare.’
I laugh and enter the studio, ‘you have a nice looking ass y/n.’
‘What was that?’ they ask jokingly, turning around and placing their hands on their hips.
I clear my throat, ‘I meant you have very nice eyes.’
y/n snorts, and when I’m close enough throw their arms around me, ‘I liked the first one better.’
y/n gave off this innocent and naive aura, that had everyone wrapped around their little finger, but when around me I saw their true aura, it was a shame no one would believe me because y/n was a great actor. Then again I wouldn’t want them to be smutty in front of others, that side of them was for my eyes only.
‘How was your practice?’ y/n asks, leaning their head against my chest.
‘We’re ready for training camp, and then nationals,’ I reply, kissing the top of their head, ‘and what about you?’
y/n hums before answering, ‘I’m going to win my nationals and get that scholarship. The two of us will be national champions Kuroo.’
We were both driven and passionate individuals, I would help y/n achieve their dreams and they’d do the same for me. You could call us the perfect couple, if only people knew we were dating, right now it was our little secret.
Shiki Natsumezaka (Dance With Devils)
Y/N
As you walk through the school corridors you come to a stop when you see a group of girls bullying another girl. You knew the girl from sitting next to her in class, she was sweet and didn’t deserve this treatment.
‘Now what do we have here y/n?’ Shiki giggles, appearing next to you out of thin air.
You tense, ‘you know I don’t get why people can’t be nice.’
He throws his head back and laughs, ‘well, as one of the many sardonic people in this world, we have to get our kicks somehow.’
You huff and turn to glare at the mysterious boy who rarely showed up to class and people labelled ‘odd’, ‘well I like to see the good in people Shiki. I bet even you have some good inside you.’
Shiki stops laughing and glances at you, taken aback by the seriousness in your eyes and sincerity in your voice. You’d never once judged him based on other people’s opinions and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Aside from the student council, you were the only other person in the school he could tolerate.
Next thing you know he marches over to the group of bullies, and you swear he admits some dark aura because they run away with their tales between their legs looking like they’d seen a ghost or worse a devil. He helps the victim to her feet and she thanks him before limping off.
When he walks back over to you he notices your smile, it could light up the darkest of rooms and it was aimed at him. You don’t know what overcomes you, but you find yourself hugging the purple-haired boy.
‘Thank you Shiki, maybe you’re an angel in disguise.’
He tenses in your arms before relaxing into the hug, ‘and people call me odd y/n.’
You continue smiling at him, ‘I’d much rather be odd than boring, that’s what people call me.’
Shiki shakes his head and cups your chin looking you dead in the eyes, his expression unreadable, ‘you’re not boring, you’ve got a kind soul y/n. Don’t let anyone taint it,’ he pauses, ‘especially me,’ he whispers the last part under his breath but you hear it.
What did he mean by a kind soul and tainting? Before you can ask he releases your chin, and after you blink you find yourself alone in the corridor. A part of you wanted to stay away from Shiki, but a bigger part of you wanted to know more about him.
Benimaru (Fire Force)
Asakusa had managed to overthrow the white-clad who'd tried and failed to bring everyone to their knees. As I circle checking on citizens I come across a male white-clad stood in front of a fountain holding someone under the water who slowly stopped struggling and let their body go limp.
'What are you doing?' I shout, running over to intervene.
The male white-clad smirks and steps away from the body dressed identical to him, 'we take care of our traitors just like you lot do.'
I was confused, then in the next second, the white-clad vanished into thin air. Instinct takes over and I pull the unconscious white-clad out of the water and begin resuscitation noting that once the hood fell away the victim was a girl. After what seemed like forever the girl splutters and coughs up water opening their eyes which held pure fear.
'You can explain everything later,' I say, not wanting her to cause herself more stress.
I pick the girl up and carry her in my arms deciding to take her to my house instead of the company. The male white-clad had called her a traitor, and I couldn't possibly see how this girl could do anything wrong because she looked so innocent and kind of weak.
Once inside the house I carry her up to the bathroom and place her down on the edge of the tub while I grab a towel to wrap around her now shaking and dripping wet body.
'Thank you,' she whispers, as I wrap the towel around her.
'I'll go get you some dry clothes err—'
'y/n, I'm y/n,' she replies, voice still slightly hoarse.
I nod, 'I'm Benimaru.'
I leave the girl to undress and grab her something of mine which would surely swamp her frame. The bathroom door was slightly ajar as I return, and before I can knock I catch a glimpse of y/n's exposed back and the multitude of bruises and faded scars marking her skin. Now I was even more intrigued.
'Here are some dry clothes. I'll be in the kitchen once you're done,' I call out and place the clothes by the door.
Y/N
Benimaru, the captain of Fire Company 8. Why had he saved you? You'd come to burn this place to the ground because the white-clad could. He should hate you. Maybe he'd saved you so that you could face trial for the white-clad crimes, or maybe he wanted to kill you himself. A million negative thoughts cross your mind as you undress.
'Here are some dry clothes. I'll be in the kitchen once you're done.' He calls out from the other side of the bathroom door.
You freeze upon turning to find the door ajar, had he seen your scars? He sounded pretty calm, so maybe he hadn't peaked. His clothes were way too big for you, to the point you had to roll the waist and both legs just to be able to walk without tripping over. You stare at your wet white-clad 'uniform' and shake your head, maybe this was your chance to start a new life.
You pad barefoot through the house until you find the kitchen and stop in the doorway watching Benimaru cooking something on the stove.
You bite your lip, 'why didn't you let him kill me? Do you want to kill me yourself?'
Benimaru turns around and instinctively you shrink back, 'why did he call you a traitor y/n?'
You sigh, 'that was my older brother. He's been loyal to the white-clad for years. When he found out I had some power he forced me to join, using our little sister as leverage who had no power and the white-clad would kill in a heartbeat. I never wanted to fight or use my power, I was happy living a bland life raising my sister after our parents died.'
You keep your eyes focused on your bare feet not wanting to make eye contact because you were embarrassed and ashamed, however, a shadow looms over you and next thing you know your chin is cupped and your face forcefully raised but not aggressively like you used to. Benimaru was an enigma amongst the captains, strong and respected but never seemed like he wanted the job.
'I know you're telling the truth y/n, you'd be an awful liar. Where is your sister now?' he asks, brushing some wet hair out of your eyes with his free hand.
You gulp, 'last time I heard the white-clad were keeping her somewhere in the Netherworld but my brother never gave me details because he knew I would try and risk dying to save her. What happens now?'
Benimaru tilts his head to the side, 'that's up to you y/n? Has anyone ever seen your face?'
You shake your head, 'no, I wore a mask. Why?'
Benimaru sighs, 'if you swear to give up any information on the white-clad, I will help you get your sister back. Do we have a deal?'
Your eyes widen, 'yes, we have a deal Benimaru. I will do anything to get my sister back and make the white-clad pay for what they've put me through.'
Next thing you know your chin is released and you're pulled into a bone-crushing hug, which was a sensation you hadn't felt in a very long time, so you shakily wrap your arms around the captain hugging him back.
'I saw the scars, I will make them pay y/n,' he mumbles into your hair.
You can't keep the smile off your face, this was the first time in a long time someone was genuinely on your side and you felt like you could trust someone.
'Thank you,' you reply softly, knowing things were about to change for better or for worse.
Leonard Burns (Fire Force)
Y/N
All your life all you heard was ‘why are you so tall?’ or ‘you know no one wants to date someone taller than them’ you couldn’t answer why you were so tall, your mother’s side was small while your dad's side was pretty big, though next to your older siblings you were a giant. You were picked on throughout your school years, and even into your early days as a fire candidate, to the point you quit and ended up doing secretary work. You were assigned to Fire Company 1 under Captain Leonard Burns, and pretty much became his assistant which you didn’t mind because he was kind to you and never treated you differently.
While training as a fire candidate you got picked on by one person mainly who made your life hell, constantly taking jabs at your insecurities and embarrassing you in public. They were the core reason you left and now dread washes over you as Captain hands you transfer papers for the one person you never wanted to see again. Out of all of the company’s why did they pick yours, just when you settled in and started to make genuine friends?
‘Are you okay y/n?’ Captain Burns asks bluntly.
You bite your lip and nod, ‘I’m great.’
Nothing gets past him and you were a terrible liar, so he doesn’t budge and folds his arms over his chest, ‘tell me the truth y/n.’
You sigh and point at the transfer papers, ‘this person is the reason I quit. They made my life hell and now I have to see them every day.’
When you came to Company 1 you were quiet and shy not knowing if you belonged, but after a month you opened up and came out of your shell and that was in part owed to your captain who took you aside and asked about your problems so he could help you fit in.
Captain Burns was a hard man to read, at first you thought he was intimidating but now you respected him greatly. Your confession was pulling no readable emotion from him, I mean he’d asked and you’d answered honestly. However your least favourite person waltzes into the room and freezes upon seeing you, an evil smirk on his lips.
‘If it isn’t the dropout, were there no vacancies at the zoo?’ they snigger, ‘did they have to have your desk specially made to make you feel more human? Do they have no standards or height restrictions here?’
You merely have to glance at Burns to see his eye twitch. You then turn back and smile knowing full well what was going to happen next.
Captain Burns clears his throat, ‘see me in my office now!’
The two head into the office and shut the door, and you can’t help but put your ear up against it to eavesdrop.
‘Who do you think you are coming into my company and treating not just me but y/n with no respect? Do you not know your place? You’ll find y/n has a lot more friends here so if I was you I’d learn my place in the pecking order. Do I make myself clear?’ Burns all but growls.
You rush back to your desk and go back to paperwork just as the office door opens and your ‘friend’ sulks out not making eye contact with you and looking a lot less cocky than before. You stamp his transfer papers and hand them over with a smile, ‘here you go, welcome to Company 1.’
They take the papers and scurry off.
‘If they cause you any trouble y/n let me know. We are an inclusive company and I won’t stand for any form of bullying.’
You nod, ‘thank you, captain.’
He cracks a rare smile, ‘god I love putting people in their place.’
You wouldn’t want to be at any other company, sure Leonard Burns could be a hard read, but he was fair to everyone who walked through those doors. You enjoyed coming to work and had no reason to be self-conscious about your height as long as Burns had your back.
Benimaru (Fire Force)
Y/N
When you left the house to go to the shops the sky had been clear, however upon leaving the shop the weather changed and the heavens opened on you. You had no coat or umbrella, so all you could do was clutch the shopping to your chest and run like your life depended on it. Your partner Benimaru asked you to pick up some more sake as he was taking his bottle to the company to have a drink with company 8 who were leaving after a training exercise. Your partner wasn’t a man of many words or emotions, but after some drink, he was a whole new man.
The house was quiet when you returned looking like a drowned rat, so you put the shopping away and head upstairs to dry off before making dinner.
As you potter around the kitchen you hear the front door open and close. Benimaru would eventually stumble his way into the kitchen to find you. However, as you reach for a frying pan arms snake themselves around your waist making you jump.
‘I love you,’ Benimaru slurs.
You snort, ‘how much did you drink?’
He spins you around so that your back is pressed against the counter, ‘you smell like rain y/n.’
You giggle as he nuzzles his face in the nape of your neck, ‘did you drink the whole bottle?’
He pulls his head back and smiles lazily before nodding, ‘are you proud of me?’
How this man was a respected captain you’d never quite understand, one moment he was strict and the next a big man child. But you loved this man child and wouldn’t want to be with anyone else.
‘I’m proud and I love you,’ you reply.
Benimaru’s smile grows before he leans in and crashes his lips down on yours. The only other person who could drink him under the table was you, it was how you met after all.
Captain Obi (Fire Force)
Y/N
You had been dating the captain of Company 8 for the past six months and your relationship was strong, being able to perfectly balance your work and personal lives. However, the two of you could get into heated arguments when it came to the other company members, especially when it came to Shinra, Arthur, Maki, Iris and Tamaki. Obi could be strict, while you took on a more relaxed and calming approach. Hinawa stayed out of your way, refusing to pick a side.
Today was no different, Shinra and Arthur came up to you complaining about how the captain had given them a tonne of paperwork as punishment for something the girls had done and blamed them for. You put down your coffee and stand up, a determined look on your face.
‘Leave it to me, I’ll get to the bottom of this,’ you say, confident you could change Obi’s mind.
Storming past Hinawa who doesn’t so much as look in your direction, you have to do a double-take because of the ridiculous outfit he was wearing, and he was completely oblivious to the fact. You hear giggles and glare at the girls who gulp and scurry out of the room, a little scared of how intimidating you could be.
Without knocking you enter Obi’s office and slam the door behind you getting your boyfriends attention. He puts down his pen, leans back in his chair and smiles smugly, ‘hello y/n, what can I do for you today?’
‘We need to talk about punishing Shinra and Arthur when they’ve done nothing wrong,’ you snap.
Obi’s smile falters, ‘Oh I see. I’ve done nothing wrong. When I asked who made Hinawa look that way the girls said it was the guys who didn’t defend themselves.’
You snort, walk up to the desk, and slam your hands down, ‘you and I both know Shinra and Arthur couldn’t come up with something like that without arguing. Why do you have your blinders on? You need to be a fair captain.’
Obi’s eyebrow twitches, as he stands up, and mirrors you slamming his hands down on the desk, ‘why do you have blinders on for that pair? How dare you call me an unfair captain,’ he shouts.
You roll your eyes, you’d never called him an unfair captain directly but like usual he blew things out of proportion trying to make you feel bad and back down. But you could keep a level head and that annoyed him because he couldn’t get under your skin easily.
‘Do you hear yourself? Are you death as well as blind?’ you snap back.
‘We’re done here y/n, GET OUT!’ he yells.
You throw your arms in the air, ‘I wish to stay by your side, but you always blow things out of proportion.’
He points behind you towards the door, ‘and I’m telling you to leave y/n!’
Obi sits back down, and you decide to give him time to cool off, however, you aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, ‘respectfully Obi, I don’t think I can,’ you chuckle.
He sighs frustratingly, ‘why can’t you leave?’
‘Because it would appear the rest of the company have locked or blocked the door trapping us inside,’ you reply calmly.
‘Ridiculous,’ he huffs, and walks over to the door, trying and failing to open the door.
You throw your head back and laugh, ‘I have no idea what they’re trying to pull, but there will be hell to pay, right partner?’
Obi meets your eyes and nods, ‘we might butt heads but together we can outwit anyone.’
You lean over and kiss his cheek, ‘I’m sorry for shouting at you. We’re both passionate about the company.’
He kisses you on the lips, ‘I’m sorry too. Let’s agree to not get involved in petty disputes again.’
On the other side of the door the two of you hear shuffling and muffled voices, the company were spying on you. It was like the two of you were the only adults in the company, but you didn’t mind being trapped in the same room as your boyfriend, because the two of you could easily pass the time.
Maki (Fire Force)
Y/N
Another day at Fire Company 8, meant another day trying to break up Maki, Shinra and Arthur up from fighting on the roof. The four of you had meant to be training, but Shinra and Arthur said something which triggered Maki into one of her rages. You were pretty sure neither boy had called her a gorilla, but Maki's mind worked in mysterious ways and now she was pounding on the two recruits. Usually, you'd let Lieutenant Hinawa break them up, but he'd left early after mumbling about the four of you being useless.
You stand back, trying to figure out the best way to diffuse the situation before someone got seriously hurt. Then an idea pops into your head, a rather devious idea that could work. You and Maki went back years, having grown up together and being inseparable, and over those years you'd developed feelings for one another. No one knew the two of you were dating.
Taking a deep breath, you stride across the rooftop and get in between Maki and Arthur, 'you can't just insult me and –'
'Oh, please. Shut up and kiss me,' you say, cutting her off.
Next thing you know, the two of you are kissing, and you feel all the tension and anger leave Maki's body. After a couple of minutes you pull out of the kiss and smile at your girlfriend who blushes.
'That was a very dirty move y/n,' Maki states.
You chuckle, 'it worked, didn't it?'
'WAIT YOU TWO ARE TOGETHER!' both Shinra and Arthur shout at the same time.
Maki wraps an arm around your waist holding you against her chest, while the two of you stare at the dumbfounded boys in front of you, 'do you have a problem with y/n and I being together?' Maki snaps.
You feel a warm feeling inside your chest as Maki got mad and defended your relationship. You hated seeing her get mad over stupid things, but when it came to your relationship, she was willing to fight tooth and claw to show the world how much you meant to her and vice versa.
Shinra and Arthur tense up and shake their heads, 'err no!'
You pat your girlfriend's arm, 'I think that's enough drama for today. Shall we head inside?'
Maki hums contently, 'well the cats well and truly out of the bag now y/n. We can fight whatever comes our way.'
