It really sucks seeing how absolutely racist The Proud Family was towards Asians.
I know that The Proud Family was the first time a lot of people felt seen and I understand the weight of that.
I just ask when you see the Chang triplets on the screen and they are dancing to “Asian infused” hip hop beats with their buck teeth blunt black bangs and slits for eyes while literally holding out their straight A+ paper maybe just say “That was racist and not okay” instead of laughing it off and saying how much you loved the Chang Triplets as a kid.
You can love a show and still hold them responsible. The racism in that show was hurtful and there has been far too much pain between the black and asian community. That was sparked by white people to further them. There were storylines about Penny and being in love with an asian boy and if I remember right was also a little iffy- I gotta rewatch that one- so now is a good time to not praise the Chang triplets. Instead we should remember the show for what it was- the first time a lot of people felt represented- a show that brought people together and still is to this day.
