Trigger Warning- SA, death, murder, Adabana spoilers
There is a barrier of shame and discretion in the portrayal of SA in anime and manga. Sometimes it's used for comic purposes, other times it's just shown as a part and parcel of life and never picked on again. But there is a few rare times when it's portrayal is raw and jarring. One such Manga is Adabane. It revolves around the life of two friends, one who died on the bed of snow and the other sitting at the confession table.
Assault is a crucial aspect of this Manga, having facilitated the story as well as becoming a Character in itself. Such a sensitive topic, in general Manga or anime are portrayed in the form of either shaky flashbacks or efficient dialogue but Adabane takes a huge step and shows these aspects very bluntly with little to no censor. When I first read it, I wondered why does it have to be so explicit and uncomfortable and I realised that it's purpose is to make it uncomfortable for the reader. There are no attempts made to hide or fade any details out and its for us as the readers to face the brutality of the crime itself, not just leave the room for interpretation and "did it happen or not" because it did happen. And it is horrible.
While I am not critical of shows that use visual metaphors and faded imagery to portray the crime but this was a gut in the punch while reading for the first (and probably only time) and that's how it was meant to be. The reason I wrote ALL of this was because i saw one such scene from the manga being used as a "boyfriend aesthetic" on Pinterest.
Are we that unfazed by such gruesome acts that we pretend they are worthy of romanticising?
I was feeling soooo many things after watching Part 6 end but bringing back Roundbout and showing a glimpse of all the stories from the beginning literally got me to tears. How am I supposed to find entertainment in anything after witnessing peak media I cannot even comprehend this.
“That’s why I walk down memory lane, ‘cause it’s the only place that you haven’t left yet.”
Best boy in Morioh
Fugo being a victim of SA and having a stand which cannot control who he may hurt sounds like him having that sense of distrust in people and more of a guard to protect and defend himself so nobody can hurt him again. Ever. But maybe im just reading too much into this.
Fire punch: shows the repercussions of suffering through eternal pain and loss, commentary of how religion can be used as a weapon and HOW MUCH EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT and debates with the idea of immortality
Also fire punch: makes the main character have an incestuous relation with his sister's lookalike.?????
I remember watching the last episode of Banana Fish on the night of my 17th birthday. I had been watching the show on a continuous pace and was waiting to watch the ending. So that's what I did after my family members wished me at midnight and celebrated and eventually everyone went to sleep. By the end of the episode, just when THE library scene ended, I was in tears sobbing into my pillow. I wondered if the problems in my life would even equate to the ones Ash had gone through. Would I be this mature and sensible? Though i has no intention of vicariously live through Ash, it was just something tht popped into my mind every second after that episode ended. The show had gradually grown so close to my heart, especially knowing the charecters were the same age as me.
That was three years ago. Today I'm 20 and come across a post about Ash's birthday. He's still 17 and I'm 20 now. Soon I'll be older and he will still be 17. We as people often fail to realise how deeply fiction affects our thoughts, especially when our reality grasps onto these stories for meaning for support or just for an identity.
I just realised that the version of me at 17 thought of Ash's ultimate decision to stay in the library as a stupid or irrationally disturbed reaction. Now at 20 I see him as a child, just wanting to get to the end of the road, knowing there is someone waiting for him, but not finding the worth in himself to drag that person down with him. It was a way of sacrifice and ultimatum. He was tired and he could not do this anymore.
Fiction and reality collide and create new perspectives for us. Characters from movies and shows and songs often cling to us, as we cling to them, trying to recognize our definitions in this process. I will keep growing but Ash will forever be 17. Its tragic and yes this is a fictional character and not a loved one but how often have we not seen ourselves, even in the smallest details, in fiction and learnt a little more about ourselves.
Aslan will always be close to my heart. And a reminder of a 17 year old me who clung to my pillow and sobbed into it for his death. Happy birthday Ash.

Jjk fandom is wild cause just came across a post that called kenjaku, the literal abomination of evil , as KENNY... like this took me a good second to realise. And yes the post was about him getting railed by Soft Dom Daddy Yuji.
The fact that no nsfw fanarts of a ship would ever come even close to AkiAngel fanarts with the most minuscule physical contact with that one song playing in the background.
