New Banana Fish Dub Out!! (Also Happy Bday Ash hehehe)
So, some good thoughts
Ash, Eiji, and Shorter all sound pretty good so far. Ash's voice actor has a good scream, which is good to know, for obvious reasons lol. Shorter and Ash have great banter. Eiji's voice actor is probably my favorite so far, besides Skip.
The dialogue between Ash and Eiji in the bar went so perfectly and was really funny, and it was all due to the deliveries. I'm okay with the dialogue changes here, but maybe it's because they won me over with Ash's "I have 🤨" in response to Eiji asking if he's killed someone lol.
Skip's voice actor is perfect, and even though it's short lived, I am in love with him all over again. This is the only voice performance, to me, that beats the original.
And I LOVE how the black characters actually have blaccents. I was NOT expecting it, but it's a lovely surprise.
SOME complaints though
Immediately, none of the old men sound old enough. This concerns me as I fear my favorite dad, Max, will not sound nearly goofy enough.
In general all the performances except Skip seem.... ehh little stiff? I don't want to be too harsh though, as my standards are set unreasonably high. You will never successfully replace Ash's voice in my head, or most of the others.
But more importantly, they changed the dialogue where Eiji says "Ash, like cinders" to "Ash... like ashes from a fire?"
Bro, WHAT? What does that even meaaan? All Ashes are from a fire of some kind, this means nothingg. And it's not like this needed to be changed at all, so I'm very confused. Like people don't know what cinders are? So baffled. I hate that line.
Those are just my initial thoughts though. All are subject to change, I suppose. EXCEPT that last one, that line is... not good.
Overall I'm very hopeful for the rest of this :) very excited to hear Yue and all of Ash and Eiji's emotional scenes!
It's that time of year again!!! Happy Birthday to the most wonderful character I know. I'm particularly emotional this year because so many more people are gonna know about his vital story and his incredible spirit through the dub and the Netflix release. I'll forever be grateful for him and the strength he's given me and the loving heart he's inspired many with. I'm gonna write my own letter to Ash tonight, don't know if i'm gonna post it on tumblr though, i'll see.
Sunflowers really are perfect for him. They're just like the sunrise he was born with.
