This poor girl is Yoko

Oh no. Oooh no. This is bad.

You know, you see a lot of pretty heinous outfits put on Animes and some of them are the fun kind of heinous and others are THIS. Where’s her protection from the elements?! She’s young and active and bound to get into all kinds of trouble and being so scantily clothed is going to do her NO favors!

Here she is now! I made sure to pick out new pieces that fit her aesthetic since she seemed to be happy with the overall feel of her old clothes. She showed interest in Handler Ceervine’s nail polish so after managing to get her to sit still we painted her nails for her-- you can see it didn’t last very long but she loves it anyways! She picked out the red and black herself.

Yoko seems like a real darling and now that she’s got some proper clothes on we’ve been letting her socialize with the other girls. She’s a hit! A bit bull-headed but we expected that much from her. She also positively TORE through the food we supplied for her so it’s no doubt that on top of not giving her adequate covering that she wasn’t getting her dietary needs met.

We’re not quite sure what type she is just yet, though we have a hunch she might be a battle-hybrid which would explain her active nature and HUGE appetite. We’ll likely be keeping her around for a bit to properly ID her and then look towards rehoming her!

My first thought upon receiving this drop-off was “oh my lord, someone’s descaled her!”

Monster types always, and I mean ALWAYS get some of the worst care out of all Animes. It’s no surprise though given they’re only considered cool and trendy when stripped of most of their genuinely monstrous traits! This mermaid is a good example of that. You can see that her old handler CLEARLY stripped her of most of her scales to make her more appealing and likely went so far as to split her legs to a certain degree. You can see that they’re still partially fused from the knees down...

It took quite some time and work, but...

I had to go through and separate her legs entirely for her own sake as she was having just the worst time trying to swim with the partial job her last owner did on her. It was truly heartbreaking to do but in the end she’s better off for it. Then came the rest of the process, which had to be handled delicately.

Removing a lot of scar tissues left behind by the vicious descaling process allowed for rounds of medication to be administered that eventually promoted new scale growth! You can see here her natural scale growth pattern has returned!

We keep her pretty much exclusively in as big of a salt water tank as we could afford but I do plan to either rehome her or look into sending her to a bigger sanctuary more suited for her needs. Monster types are a peculiar breed as they tend to more closely resemble the Monsters their type is named for genetically speaking than their fellow Animes! This can make them extremely challenging to keep up with for unsuspecting adopters who think they’ll behave like their Non-Monster Anime counterparts.

Thank you so much for helping support our work and thank you even more for bringing this lovely creature in! She was in rough shape and I hate to think about what could have happened to her if she hadn’t found her way here!

Handler Citrus discovered this lass when she found her way into the sanctuary perimeter and started to spar with our other battlers-- lucky that she found her when she did! Unsupervised sparring can quickly become high stakes battles, and in a lot cases this can lead to serious injury and possibly death.

Citrus took this fiery lady under her metaphorical wing, having developed a deep bond rather quickly, and was quick to start on her rehabilitation and care! The first step was giving her proper coverage! She was otherwise extremely healthy besides being obviously frustrated and poorly covered. This meant that most of the work to be done with her was behavioral.

Once given proper armor, a quick trim of dead ends, and a securing hair tie, Citrus took her out to the obstacle courses and training yards-- turned out she just had a TON of excess energy to burn! With new heavy armor and some extensive exercise she quickly calmed down. That being said, she still has to be kept separate from most of the other battle types just because she’s VERY territorial and prone to mischief... but other than that, she’s happy as can be!

Anime Types

Something a lot of new Anime fans may not realize is that there are different types. This comes as common sense to any Anime veteran but when there’s so little distinction between Toons it can be understandable that the starting Anime enthusiastic may not realize such! This can unfortunately lead to mishandling and mistreatment of Animes, even by the most well-meaning people.

It should go without saying that proper research should always be done and that more experienced Anime handlers should remember that they too were once bumbling beginners with stars in their eyes! That being said, we at Anime Sanctuary believe in making information easy and accessible and are always taking questions regarding rearing, handling, and enrichment.

Problems with the Anime Industry: Misinformation

It’s common knowledge that the anime industry is rife with issues. One of the biggest problems is misinformation! To start off with, contrary to popular belief, Animes have NEVER been a wild species. They’re a creature that was created with intent to mimic the wild Toon that is native to the North Americas, in particular the species of Toon that became a staple of the United States.

These creatures were never meant to exist on their own and rely heavily on humans for proper care and enrichment, and in fact thrive on offering companionship to humans! Reactionaries in recent years have pushed to return Animes to the wild under the assumption that they have a preexisting ecological niche similar to the wild Toon. This is not only false but has led to dangerous cross-breeding and a spike in fatal diseases crossing species lines both ways. Most, if not all wild Toons, will gladly predate on Animes of all kinds. Their life expectancy in the wild is abysmal.

Remember, Animes are more than just toys! They’re more than something to fill in a few hours of your life and then discard!

When this poor creature found her way to us she was barely able to stand up without assistance and wasn’t even capable of acting swinging her weapon around!

She was over encumbered both by her hair, which had been allowed to grow completely unchecked, and her breasts which had possibly the worst case of swelling I’d ever seen that was being exacerbated beyond belief by the awful clothing she had been trapped in for who KNOWS how long!

It’s important to remember that while anime girls often have proportions that are not standard or comparable to human beings that purposefully encouraging this kind of growth is cruel to your companion and can lead to deadly health conditions and poor quality of life.

After a quick trim of her hair and several round of medication, our dear battle angel is wearing a much more appropriate outfit and spends much of her time finding satisfying enrichment with her fellow battling types!
