As much as I adore almost everything about Spy x family, Yor Forger is NOT it. Endo is an amazing story teller and knows how to write a good character - we deserved a more compelling female lead :(

When was her character used as mere fanservice/sex appeal though? Closest I can think of is in the second chapter when she caught the tray on her foot but the point of that scene was less "oo look at her legs" and more "wow she's really talented—how has loid not noticed anything?". Genuinely this manga doesn't feel like it has any fanservice to me; and I'm into women, I think I'd notice if there was.

There were a bunch of chapters where she was the main character recently: The Hemlock arc, the date with Loid, the confession to Anya, the psychic reading... I liked a lot of that because she's endearing and cool, not because of fanservice. She is a compelling female lead imo.

By fan service I don't really mean her walking around nude all the time ( although her thorn princess outfit can be argued to be catering to male gaze but again, I'm not talking about that part). It's more about Yor fitting the classic shounen story female lead, where the girls don't bring much to the story personality wise and are just there looking pretty. The only difference Endo added to Yor's character is her physical abilities - she's no damsel in distress, but she is:

- mentally and emotionally shallow

- lacks critical thinking skills

- is socially underdeveloped

- has a male-gaze inspired design (pretty with big breasts)

I also want to highlight how Hemlock also is a character who like Yor lacks social awareness and skills big time, but unlike her Endo brings some quirky comedic situations for him and explosive personality that makes his character likable.

With fanservice, you've moved the goalpost from "oversexualized for no reason" to "is attractive to men".

As for her not having great critical thinking, that's not out of nowhere; she basically failed high school in order to raise Yuri. Not having critical thinking wouldn't make a character unlikeable; people like Anya, and beyond SxF, all sorts of idiot characters.

And lastly, Yor literally has good social relationships and comedic moments: she's a great mom to Anya as others are saying, and in the image here: her friendship with Melinda is directly relevant to the mission. That's huge for the story, hardly "sitting there looking pretty".

Again, there is no need for oversexualization, Yor still fits the classic shounen Female lead that men love and glorify. And the amount of fanboys gushing over her is a good way to gauge how Endo writes Yor. She's overly-naive bordering on dumb, innocent and cute. That's a woman character many men fetishize in Anime/manga spaces and that's just a fact.
