Dear friends, for the next three weeks OfHouses invites you to taste the creative atmosphere in Le Corbusier’s Atelier at 35, rue de Sèvres. This was considered a mythical birthplace of architectural ideas. The Atelier was established in 1924 and remained Corbu’s main workplace until his death in 1965. In the 40 years of its existence, over 300 architects of different ages, nationalities, backgrounds and religions joined the studio. This small (by today’s standards) atelier, housed in a ground-floor space of an abandoned Jesuit Parisian monastery, was to become world’s first truly international architectural office. We will start by looking at those who worked for and with Corbu in the ‘20s: from his silent partner Pierre Jeanneret and their long-time collaborator Charlotte Perriand, up to the less internationally famous (but no less talented) architects such as Vladimir Karfík or Ingrid Wallberg. In the first episode of this another extensive series by OfHouses, we invite you to discover seven extraordinary houses built (for themselves) by Corbu’s first employees. Concrete Feats
Many Brutalist buildings have received criticism for their rugged and unappealing appearance.
We beg to differ.
Concrete Feats is a curation of Brutalist structures from around the world highlighting this beautiful movement of architecture.
