"you've changed."
[ep 4 / ep 32]
Sometimes I wonder what Jiang Cheng could've become if his parents didn't instill a mix of "crippling fear of failure" and "impossibly high standards" in him. Cuz like, his dad was holding him to the vague standard of being as good as wwx, his mom yelling at him whenever he goofed around like wwx, and then both of them expressed disappointment when he's less successful than wwx. The thing both of them seem to ignore though is that wwx got where he is entirely because he had the freedom to fuck around and find out- he trained tirelessly because he made training fun for himself, he was innovative as a cultivators because he experimented and persisted through failures, and he was able to act in line with the Jiang clan moto because his actions had less political pull than members of the main family. Jiang Cheng on the other hand- if he fucked around he got told to "stop stooping to the level of servants." If his achievements were lesser than wwx's, he got either dismissed by his dad or yelled at by his mom to try harder. And if he picked fights with the Wens, they'd have an excuse to destroy his clan. Like ya- no shit that'd create an adult who's terrified of failure.
The kite game serves as such a good metaphor/embodiment of this set back- with Jiang Cheng never being able to shoot as far as Wei Wuxian because he pulls back and shoots closer the second he misses.
And its sad too because he's shown to be pretty brilliant when he's in "fuck it, we ball" mode. Like, when he's not freezing up, he manages to pull off things like rebuilding his entire clan from the ground up, leading armies and taking back territories from the Wens, and I'm fairly sure he's the only character we see counter the Lan music cultivation techniques (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that last one. Also feel free to add any of the other cool shit he did that I'm blanking on at the moment, cuz I know I'm forgetting something).
That being said- even with his anxiety, he's still one of the top cultivators. Imagine what a force of nature he'd be if he could sustain "fuck it we ball" mode
Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian | Episode 25
Jiang Cheng putting his trust in Wei Wuxian again one last time
“Don’t hide things so sulkily in your heart.”
11/5 Happy Birthday Jiang Cheng 💜
I just want them to hug again
I just want them to hug again
I love how chengxian's dynamic is so human and never boring. I love how they love each other so much and keep hurting each other so often. I love how they were ready to die for each other and knew to keep it a secret to not hurt the other one. I love how they parted ways but never stopped loving each other. I love how they loved each other but were on different sides of the war. I love how their time together in youth was the best time of their lives. I love how their relationship is so damaged it would take years, blood and tears to repair it.
I love how they show that love can be such a big part of you that it's tearing you apart from the inside of your chest. I love how they show that sometimes you have to choose between your love and your duty. I love how they show that it's okay to keep each other responsible for your wrongdoings. I love how they show - love isn't perfect happily ever after and it can be hurtful and disappointing. I love how they showed me that you can be devoted to each other to an extreme extent - and it wouldn't be enough for a happy end.
I love how they're so real, human and comlpex♥️💜
Novel quotes: wei wuxian having feelings/thoughts about jiang cheng
Under the cut because it's long
If WWX knocked up cis girl!JC, what do you think would happen if JC didn't abort/the baby was carried to full term? How would that change things?
Two thoughts. One, “that depends when.” Two, “oh, this is bad.”

the start:
hello :D can you tell me why you like chengxian?
A Non-Comprehensive Guide to Twi's Love of ChengXian
Yes I spent time making this edit. I love them and I'm not an artist so sue me.
Short Answer: I love these two self-sacrificing assholes and their aesthetics and I think they should kiss and get a happy ending for once. If MXTX doesn't want to do it, I'll write it instead! 😤
Long Answer: Click the Read More
the thing that kills me about chengxian is that you are tempted to say they could have had it so good if x. if y. if z. but then you really look at the circumstances and political climate they had to deal with and you realise the fact that they had anything at all was so good already and the fact that they defended it for so long is already extraordinary. even in canon it's about love persevering
Hi! i’m new to chengxian. so i was wondering, do you have any recs please? preferably long one shots (10k+) and set in the original location (i don’t like modern aus mostly as they are based in the us or uk). sorry for all the stipulations!
HELLO ANON AND WELCOME TO CHENGXIAN!!
I am DELIGHTED to be a source of fic recs, and I have JUST the fics for you.
First of all, I highly recommend checking out the various ao3 collections of past chengxian events, such as Chengxian Happy Ending Fest, or Chengxian Minibang 2023, Chengxian Week 2020, Chengxian Week 2021 , Our Meeting is Inevitable or The Chengxian+ Collection, which are a goldmine of wonderful fics. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding something to your taste among them!
Now, on to my personal recommendations, under the read more because this got LONG.
i just think that Jiang Cheng genuinely loves Wei Wuxian a lot! but in their youth, he’s not allowed to love him bc of his parents’ relationship and his status. and after the war he’s not allowed to love him because he’s a nearly powerless leader of a sect that is starting over from scratch and wwx is an outcast. and then he’s not allowed to love him bc wwx is dead (and so is his sister and her husband and his parents and everyone he’s ever loved). and then he’s not allowed to love him bc everyone lauds jc for having killed wwx the first time (noooo that’s the thing he’s sensitive about) (and also sunk cost fallacy a little). and then he’s not allowed to love him bc he’s hated him for so long and wwx has made an enormous sacrifice for him and jc can’t admit that he’s loved wwx enough this whole time to have made the same sacrifice for him. so he’s angry instead.
